He said not to use the 'Internal HLE Bios', but to use SCPH1001.BIN.

Yeah, I have all those settings as you say they should be. A little about Blaze & Blade - I'm using my PAL-E version, so it should be running at somewhat below 50fps, but also the game itself only seems to update graphically every 3f or so. I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Actually, now I play it back a few more times, it seems like it's inserting some extra frames at the beginning or something? However, removing (any amount of) these doesn't seem to get it back in sync.

Well, I tried the same thing on Blaze & Blade with this emulator, and... strangely enough it desynced even earlier. I pressed Down on only one frame to select the next menu item. Once I hex edited in two more Downs, it got past that part. This does not seem robust. However, it still desynced at the same place as last time, on the first card flip.

Model C makes a lot of sense, but it does cut out any future additions of netplay (yes, I know you said you weren't interested, but it is just a generalisation of what you are already trying to do), so I would have to go with Model A. For movie format, it should be One movie for all for ease of playback. However, this brings obvious problems - if only the server records, it gets Player 1's keypresses, but Player 2+'s network data, which isn't the same at all, and somewhat unverifiable, like starting from a savestate. I'm unsure what to suggest here; recording all player keypresses would be fine if you use Model C, I guess. I guess sync would have to come from the first turning on of a console, with all the other 'player keypresses' being padded with some byte that says the console isn't even on yet.

lol no :) All the movie format stores is what buttons are pressed each frame. Or apparently, what buttons are not pressed.

I've tried Blaze & Blade, Descent, Alundra and Tekken 3 (Online Hack), and all of them desync very quickly. I'm using the recommended settings. Any ideas what's going wrong?

This 'the next Windows is slower' thing has always bugged me, but I always tried to justify it by saying that perhaps it is the new features it supports - which would be all well and good if you could turn them off permanently to get a performance increase; this tends not to be the case. Sentence too long; consider revising.

Okay, I've been trying out making a movie! I set up everything as stated, then stepped through Blaze & Blade, creating a character and saving it to memory card. Played it back, desyncs on the first card flip. Mmm, okay. So I painstakingly cut and pasted big lines of 1s in movie.txt until it all finally worked and generated the character correctly, then saved it again. Played it back, woo! It works. And actually ended up 8k smaller than last time. Somehow. Copied both movie files onto my own computer, tried them in the emulator. Neither syncs. Wha? Yes, each time I made sure the memory cards were clean, too. Just in case.

I'm afraid I can't offer you any advice. This is something I've always found difficult, and I can never understand how people make entire sprawling 3D worlds, when I couldn't design a single puzzle room to save my life. I've never been impressed with Nintendo's level design in SMW. Occasionally they make some interesting puzzles, but the majority of that game is run-right. I would suggest you look at the Klonoa series (the GBA games have some good puzzles, the PSX/2 games have some fantastic visuals and are still 2d-gameplay) for some design that I appreciate.

I use Vista on my work PC, and it's... well, it's pretty bleh. Once you turn off all the Vista features it pretty much becomes XP with C:\Users instead of C:\Documents and Settings\, so it's all the same to me.

display on or through, the Services
Doesn't this bit mean they can do whatever they want with the webpages you view? It's pretty vague for a legal document. Also what the hell? Useless topic alert.

If anything I feel we should encourage quirkiness in stuff like movie descriptions, because if there's a more appropriate insult than 'robot' to give a TASer, I'm yet to hear it.

Yeah, it's to do with hardware key buffers and all that boring stuff. Another good way to get around the key limitation is to use a joypad. :) I have a PS2-a-like joypad with all the usual buttons mapped roughly to the GBA controller, except for these: Square = Frame Advance Triangle = Pause L2 = Load State 9 R2 = Save State 9 L3 = Load State 1 R3 = Save State 1 Works pretty well, but I haven't been using it very long.

Something like
def OnKey(event):
    keypressed = event.scancode
    triggered = KEYMAPPINGS[keypressed]
    if !triggered: return
    else EmulatorFunctions[triggered]()

There is such a thing as 'VBALink', a modified version of VBA that supports linking. This feature is not in the current VBA rerecording line, but could be added. The movie format would no doubt need to change to support additional controllers/network data or something, though.

I finished OoT idly over a series of weeks playing on my keyboard. The auto-aim meant I never needed the analogue stick. Happy now?

I don't get it. There is rarely a time in any 3d game where I need to choose between more than 8 different directions. This is my issue with analogue pads. Also, when Sony came up with the idea of 'clicking in' the analogue sticks as extra buttons... wow, were they just trying to get people to break their pads?

Once the emulator is a bit more stable, I will work on Alundra. I started planning a speedrun for the game a while ago, and it would be nice to still work on something related. There are a number of speed tricks and overall awesomeness possible on this, but it is quite a long game too.

I don't mean to be offensive, but I rarely (if ever) see people express this view who don't have some kind of Nintendo-related image in their avatar or signature. I wonder. My favourite controller is still the enormous Xbox one. However, I don't even like analogue sticks (let alone buttons) and think they should all die.

Gender? Male Age? 21 Play on PC or Console? PC mainly If Console, which one? PS2 Do you play: [x] Alone? [x] Online? [x] In-home groups? Do you take your gaming “seriously?” (want to beat friends, win tourneys etc.) Yeah. I like to win, but I like to lose more, that way I get better. :) However, the attitude is not very predominant where I live, so I rarely get chances to compete. Where do you get your information about games? I generally don't! I just buy what I want to, then make my own decisions. Favorite games? 1. Final Fantasy IX 2. Klonoa 2: Veil of Lunatea 3. uh, no idea. • Where do you buy your games? Usually at the local Gamestation. • Where do you buy your consoles? I haven't bought any new consoles since my GBA, and that was also from Gamestation. • Have you ever traded in or purchased a second hand game/console? Yup, I traded in my old GBC for the GBA! Also, I have traded in old (tired-out) games for new ones. • Your parents: [ ]Support your gaming [ ]Dislike it [x]Don’t care [ ]Not living with parents
