Absolutely go for the Cotlets. If you aren't going to have masses of decent equipment/levels/cheese from kindness rune then a turn of invulnerability can make a lot of difference. Just ask Luca. This might be the pxm I made. I don't mind helping you out with suggestions but I'm not sure how much time I can commit to co-authoring. I'll give it a shot though. Also, I know a little french, but probably not enough to converse normally.

Random battles happen on an RNG that changes every frame. It is possible to run with small breaks of walking to avoid all encounters. In battle, results of choices are determined on pressing OK on the final 'is this correct' dialogue. Choices are again frame-based but somewhat more sticky; 3-4 consecutive frames often give the same results or very very minor differences like a move doing +/-1 damage. Trial and error, go go go.

That's odd. I put my copy of Diablo (PAL-E) in and played that fine on PCSX. Also in my view there's not much point to TAS Diablo... because it almost already has been, check here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/Diablo.html Obviously that isn't a TAS as such, but any PSX TAS will actually be a lot longer than that one because of the port's murderous loading times.

Well, if it can 'change' your pokedex, with careful application it might 'finish' it. Just like how you arbitrarily edit memory with your pokemon yellow run. Also glad to see this idea is getting a little more thought. :)

I'm not talking about the Rune that adds attack per recruit; I'm talking about the other one that adds by 'friendship value'. If you make the friendship value negative (by killing them in combat) it overflows and adds ridiculous amounts to their attack. You can read more about this on GameFAQs.

I did a test TAS thingy up to the Mist Monster (yeah, that far huh). Honestly because the Friendship/whateveritiscalled Rune bug is so important unless you level/sharpen like hell, not much other strategy needs to be considered, except up until the point you can get the rune. Which is unfortunate.

Decent SPU plugins tend to work with anything you throw at them. I know Suikoden 2 / Alundra sound perfect with Eternal SPU Plugin, but all of the ones mz recommended (before, haven't kept up with the thread so well) butcher it.

I think you are awesome for using the word 'rubric'. Aside from that, it all looks nice but the criteria for categorisation into Low/Medium/High is suspiciously absent. If it's just a gut feeling then, okay, I'm glad we have more than one judge :p

What Vista hate? People are discussing quite frankly and without prejudice. Besides, 'disabling Aero' is not the most obvious way I can think of to resolve a problem with AVI output. :)

You can boot to the PS1 logo if you like by selecting 'Run from BIOS' or something I think? Not that it's very necessary, most PS1 games have nice long black screens at the start to overlay anyway.

Uh. I was arguing in favour of non-entertaining runs being published. Just marked differently. Sorry, I guess I was laying it on a little thick.

I would argue that '0' means 'do not publish this' and anything above that means 'publish this strength X' but what do I know? In fact that would make more sense vis-a-vis 'terrible game choice'; you could have a reasonable Technical score and an Entertainment of 0 and a judge could still publish it because god knows entertainment score is fairly useless on a multicultural multibackground multiopinion site like this

Whatever the weather, this is one entertaining TAS. Arguing for 'can I have a glitchless natural route no caps no coin duckjump only' TAS is great and all, but don't expect it unless you do one yourself. Looking forward to more PSX TASs from non-overrated series. :D

I basically agree with everything Kartong said re: OoT. Also adding in that it has almost as much 'walking time' as some recent MMOs, which makes it all the more dull. Also, the plot is blah, and you're forced to read and watch cutscenes of it. It seems to me like the whole game is set up to be easy, and dull, because it's a kid's game. That's just what companies do when they make games specifically for (early)teenagers. Minus the nostalgia it's just ditchwater.

I think it would be very difficult for anybody to argue in favour of SMB's level design.

That one's even worse because they do the whole "this game is historically significant" thing, most obviously with Super Mario Bros., which by today's standards is a bad game with boring music and terrible level design.

re: "Top 100 games lists always suck", I refer you to Amiga Power: http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/ap2/legend/top_100s.html A more accurate list I have never seen. But yeah, "Reader's Choice" basically means "Worst Choice" so I would discount any list like that with- wait, Ocarina of Time is #1? I can't ignore such a blatant disregard for game quality there. Batman on NES is a better game than OoT and it sucks.

Nail on the head. TAS isn't a word. I won't say TAS's any more than I would say speedrun's, either. Then again I find principles more important than reality, so whatever. More playarounds! Also I agree with moozooh. Creativity is meant to be rewarded over dilligence, right? Or not right?
