I'm looking for a good joypad that is well suited for playing SNES and other retro games via emulator. I took the obvious approach of getting a super smartjoy but I found there was an annoying amount of lag between pressing buttons and inputs actually being registered. Can anyone reccomend me a good lag-free alternative? Modding SNES controllers is out of the question unless they can be hooked up by USB as my laptop has very few fancy inputs. Thanks

I don't know if you've gotten as far as the digging game yet but I've been doing some investigation of how often the heart piece shows up. It seems like the only deciding factors are the frame that you press the Y button and the amount of time left on the clock. Every 5 second interval has a separate item pack, with 8 items each, which it cycles through one frame at a time. The important point is that the heart piece only seems to be obtainable in the last 5 seconds. I hope there's some way to manipulate this but I've never found any. So what I'd suggest is using the digging game to collect lots of ruppees, since you need to spend 25 seconds there, and save the squares right next to the entrance for the end.

I don't recall there being any hearts where you need the hookshot, even on a console playthrough. The only one where people would normally use the hookshot is for the one that also requires the cape, but you can walk around the top side of the pit to avoid using the hookshot.

Ah, well in that case I'm afraid it would be no use to me. I collect the cape on a large item collection spree after Swamp Palace, where I basicly do an anticlockwise circle from swamp palace, to lake hylia, to that northern section with the grave yard, then finally ending up at the lumberjack's house. It would be a pointless detour for me to pick the cape up early.

Mine will be single segment. Is the glitch you're refferring to the Death Mountain Descent glitch? If so then I won't be using that. If you're meaning another glitch then I don't know about it so could you tell me? I will be using the magic cape for the boss of Misery Mire. As it's a console run it is near impossible to efficiently kill the eyes with spin attacks unless you do not have damage to worry about, as you can go much closer into the slime and hit many of them with each slash. I may also use it for Kholdstare, as it's much easier to get the 3 fuzzy things locked into a corner when you don't get hurt by the falling ice blocks.

There is a 300 rupee chest in a cave southeast of the big bomb shop. It takes about 10 seconds longer than simply getting the usual chest in village of outcasts. What I do is, after getting the bird as normal, I get the piece of heart in the light world equivilent of Blind's Hideout, then as soon as I get outside I warp to Link's House and go and collect the magic powder, quake, flippers, Zora's river heart, red boomerang and ice rod, then fly back to Kakariko and continue. The reason this works well is because I now have Magic Powder, so can get the 1/2 magic upgrade at the same time as picking up the third sword after Thieve's Town. If I left getting the powder til after thieve's town I'd need to use the Forest warp point again, as I would overwrite any magic mirror warp points I created when I went to collect quake etc. I've tried this out and it does seems to work efficiently.

Ah, I forgot that the TASers usually allow save quits. I doubt your route will be similar to mine but I'll give the basic outline of the Dark World, as the Light World is similar to the pure speed run but with a few pieces of heart collected: - Palace of Darkness Big item collection (flippers, heart piece minigames, 2 bottles, quake, ice rod etc) - Thieve's Town More items (another bottle, bombos) - Swamp Palace Finish off most of the items (more hearts, last bottle, magic cape, cane of byrna, ether) - Misery Mire (and hearts around this area) - Skull Woods - Ice Palace (followed by Super Bomb) - Turtle Rock -Ganon's Tower

Have you got a basic overworld route planned out yet for the 100% run? I'm in the planning stages for my 100% console run so I'd like to compare my route to the TAS route to see if there's common improvements that can be made. If you like I could post my route. It'll take a while to type up so I won't do it right now.

"But I'll probably do 1 4 2 because 2 is far out of the way and quicker to get there with the bird." It's no faster to get there with the bird, as you walk past Link's house anyway after dungeon 1. The reason it isn't a good idea to do it straight after dungeon 1 is the flippers are required, and they are miles out of the way, and you're best to wait until you have the bird and the 300 ruppee chest in town before picking them up. Unless you can find some glitch that lets you walk across water, I can't see doing dungeon 2 early being worthwhile.

Are you timing from the moment you select the file? If so then I was at 24:40 at the moment I picked up the Tower of Hera pendant. Even with save and quits, 3 and a half minutes of improvements is amazing. I'm going to guess this'll be around 85 minutes once you're finished. Also, since you're right up to it, you don't have to stand so close to pick up the master sword. You can be hardly standing on the steps at all and still collect it. Are you sure your route to and through the forest is the fastest? It seems to have more pegasus dashes than necessary.

This new llanmolas fight is...stunning! However, it's near impossible for a human player to do it. The bow could certainly save some time though if used properly. You'll need 8 arrows for the castle tower if you plan on using them against the chain troopers, which saves a few seconds.

In case you're interested I have a new run up on SDA. Hopefully you'll find something useful for your emulator in it, but you maybe know it all already. My video is at: http://speeddemosarchive.com/lttp.html

How goes progress on your video? I'd imagine Death Mountain/Tower of Hera wouldn't be too hard.

And yet another 15 seconds gets knocked off the time. There's so many changes to the route now that I've lost track of how much time can be saved. Either way, it's a lot!

Sorry, I missed this post, this would probably not be advisable in a console run because of how much health you lose and how exact the timing has to be. The only reason why I discovered it is because I was messing around with frame advance.
Oh don't you worry, it is very possible on a console run :p. It means you take 3 hearts damage, rather than 2, but with the extra heart from sanctuary it's not too hard to do. Plus, it's only 10 minutes into the run, so messing it up and restarting isn't wasting much time. I manage it most of the times I try it, only messed up once since I got the hang of it.

Thanks very much, I got it working. This is really impressive, I've only been watching 15 minutes and already I know more ways to play faster. I never knew you could skip killing the enemies in the Eastern Palace room with the 4 pink bubbles surrounding a pot. Now if only the llanmolas were that fast to kill in a human run...

That video is very impressive but it goes out of sync after you save and quit at Sanctuary. It may just be my version of snes9x though, I'm using V1.43.

Hello, I finally found this place. It seems some people here know I'm doing an LttP run too. I'm not sure what you would define as "close", but I think I have the potential to beat TSA's 1:44 run. I actually did a run last week that beat it by 6 seconds, but that had a couple of stupid deaths and I didn't use all the techniques that are now known. So it was hardly a submitable run. If I can beat Moldorm, Blind and Vitreous without dieind/falling off the edge then the rest of the game shouldn't be too much trouble. Those are my weakest points. I don't think I'm good enough to get sub 1:40, but if I can get into the sub 1:42 range I'll be very happy.
