I can't believe you decided to submit this spliced run. A wonderful run Malleo! I love how far the cooperation between TASers, glitch hunters, and RTAers has come in this game. I enjoyed this TAS. Thanks for making it! :D
Btw, trying to turn that static into a proper image with RNG manipulation is probably a lost cause if you're aiming for something big. If you have an RNG with 232 states, then you can arbitrarily control (i.e. creating any combination of) 32 bits, so 32 pixels at best. Adding a single pixel will leave you with only 50% possible images, another one to 25%, etc. Of course, there are a lot of sets of x pixels on screen, so the probability is multiplied again, and you have a lot of frames, so add those together. But if you look closely, the static is actually a smaller pattern repeated, and a lot of frames are mostly transparent. And most importantly, the exponential growth of the unlikeliness is much bigger than the linear growth if having multiple areas or frames. In short, a 8x8 binary image is 64 bits, so you have a 232/264 chance of your image being possible to manipulate. Which is ~0.00000002%. The takeaway is: Keep in mind the rough limit of 32 pixels with a 232 state RNG.
I'm ashamed to have submitted this spliced TAS. Thank you for your kind words, and thank you for your help in previous TASes for this game. It's a shame regarding the static, but you bring up great points that ultimately shatter any hope in creating a large image. Regarding the pattern you mentioned, and for others who are curious, I locked the RNG value for this cutscene and found this pattern appear: https://twitter.com/tasmalleo/status/1283228117755199492

Thank you, Tompa. I appreciate your words. I too hope that we will one day see TTYD completed faster than Paper Mario 64... One day...

Awesome job on this, Malleo! I enjoyed the Twitch stream and I know I've said this before but this is the best TTYD TAS yet! Your determination to optimize and finish it is inspiring and I'll be sure to watch your Twitch VODs for 100% progress whenever I have some free time. Thanks for all the great GC TAS content over the years. This one is another Yes from me!
This means a lot to me coming from you. I don't know if you saw my YouTube encode, but I gave you and masterjun a shoutout at the end. Thank you immensely for welcoming me into TTYD TASing with open arms. If it weren't for your encouragement for collaboration, I may not have gone on to develop these additional TASes. Thank you for your support over the years. I greatly appreciate it.

Ooh, it's finally here! Watched your Twitch stream, and this is an impressive time save. Thank you for persevering through the challenge that was getting this completed. Also, yes, if (or more likely when) you make a ninth TAS, you absolutely need to manipulate RNG to make that static into a recognizable image!
Thank you for your kind words. I LOVE that you and someone else suggested this in my Twitch chat. I think that's a really funny concept, and I could probably make it happen with some reverse-engineering... I may not be able to include this in a TAS, but it's a funny side project I could try out!

Here's an update regarding the state of the current new TTYD TAS in progress. I'm upset by the setback but I know it's better to ensure that the TAS syncs on an authentic version of the game. Link to video

I enjoyed it. Do all the important glitches work on the Japanese version? That would remove the problem with the voice acting. If it syncs on a undub that would also work.
Yeah, all important glitches work on the Japanese version. However, different enemy AI means the TAS would desync if played on a different version.

Well for one, only Teams Sonic and Dark can kick accel. We also believe bop boosts work slightly differently between the different teams, which may allow for slightly different skips.

In addition, the upscaled texture encodes have an additional error where for each stage, the final time is next to "RING" and the ring count is next to "TIME". This is due to an error when mapping the upscaled PC version textures to their Gamecube counterparts.

I'd like to confirm that a 100% TAS is currently being routed. Included will be approximately 20+ Super Jumps, ~48 Zess T recipes cooked in 1 visit (without leaving the building), a surprising number of badge drops and RNG manipulation galore. This will be such a fun project to work on and I'm excited to start it soon! We will still be a few more weeks I imagine as we attempt to optimize certain intricacies about the route.

Just some questions: 1. Is there a list of chapter triggers documented somewhere? 2. If you failed to update your respawn location in that fireball room in 1:37:50, and fell to the water, will it respawn you somewhere further along that room quicker? 3. If you didn't open the key chest after the palace skip, and immediately walked back out, you'll enter from below the stage since the room wasn't updated right? 4. After the credits, if you triggered an earlier chapter again, does the Palace of Shadows get relocked, or does the game have seperate flags for certain events? 5. Would it save any time to fail to update respawn location, then jump to the spikes at the Palace of Shadows?
Sorry for taking a while to get back to you... 1. There's no document that lists them I believe, but the here are the triggers that we can access at any point to revert to a previous chapter that I can think of off the top of my head: Chapter 2 Super Boots, Chapter 2 cage floor panel (the cage that the Punies get trapped in), the air vent in Grubba's office, Bobbery Early, entering the train from the station, reading the note on the Poshley Sanctum, and reading the red note in the X-Naut Fortress. 2. I did test that, and it does spawn you in the center of the room. However, it's slower than using Yoshi. 3. In the event you do that you would be softlocked I believe. You'll enter in the black void and constantly respawn in front of the loading zone, with no floor below you. 4. The Palace of Shadows would not get relocked. There's a separate flag for the Palace of Shadows being open. 5. When you enter a room from a door, the game correctly sets your respawn location, so you can't perform Hazard Respawn Glitch. Otherwise, the softlock mentioned in question #2 wouldn't occur.

Which software is required to make overlays like the one in this video? Its cool, expecially for the 4:3 videos: http://tasvideos.org/6509S.html
Just Paint.NET for image editing and then Sony Vegas for combining with the encode. It could probably be done programmatically but for now I just do it by hand.

Alright, I have to ask. What happens at 5:50 in the encode, there? You brush against the wall when going into Professor Frankly's area. Same thing at 16:54
Just rechecked the video; in case anyone wonders: 1. 5:50 against the wall is BEFORE the room with fence clip, so it's not that. 2. 16:54 is just before entering Petalsburg, at the final jump. No idea what they do; probably should ask on youtube as well just in case?
Ooooh, sorry I misunderstood. It seems like I'm just colliding with the wall, but I'm actually triggering the loading zone in doing so. This doesn't cost any time over moving away from the wall. I still enter the loading zone on the same frame.

Glad to see the movie being completed. Will vote after watching it. If a movie were to be made on the English release, how different would it be from this one aside from the Goomba trio skip? If a new game is started with an existing save file that can enable super jump as some sort of NG+, would it make Prologue and Chapter 1 significantly different?
The English version by this point is very similar to the Japanese version, however I believe it's a bit slower due to an alternative method for performing Teleporter Room Early. Therefore Japanese is still the fastest version by several minutes (sorry that I don't have a more accurate time difference).

Very nice work; so close to sub 2 hours as well. Is it possible to enter chapter 2 early by using Goombella buffer + that paper mode item jump trick?
It's not possible, unfortunately.

I don't remember where I mention it in the audio commentary, but pushing against walls at a slight diagonal gives Mario a slight speed increase. As a result, if there are any walls that aren't far out of my way, it's usually fastest to push up against them.

Sync has been reported on an nVidia GPU and DSP HLE. Is the information given in the submission text still accurate?
This TAS was made using the same Dolphin version as the previous TAS, which was reported to only sync on AMD GPUs. In my scenario, I was not able to sync it on my laptop, which has a GTX 1050. If someone else can confirm if they are able to synchronize this TAS, please let me know.

So yeah, because of this new Super Jump glitch, if we can find a way to get out of bounds onto the train tracks WITHOUT jumping, then we have a faster BTS

TheKDX7: Stryder did TAS a couple small sections but said he didn't want to be credited as an author since I did the majority of the work. morningpee: Since we plan to do our own commentary for Youtube later, I think uploading the twitch vod wouldn't be good for us. Spikestuff: Yeah I thought about doing that for a bit, but I think we had trouble fitting all the partners in the overlay space. fsvgm: Wow, I don't know how I completely missed the credits roll text missing, and yeah, it sounds like native res texrects is the setting that messed with it.

Honestly, the pause glitch has kept me from working on an All Cards TAS for quite some time now. It's demotivating to know I'm already going to lose over a minute. Regardless, I will be working on it starting within the next few weeks.

Yeah I can add them to the other video. Thanks for the suggestion. Regarding an English improvement, I don't think it would be an hour faster than the first published TAS. I can't think of any timesavers that we've found at the moment, but I'm probably forgetting something.
