Seems that some people's feathers have gotten ruffled on the backwards walking point. Obviously (now that it's been explained to me) this is the fastest method for completing this game. It's also impressive since a lot of additional planning must have been done so the optimal route was selected and used (impressive since you can't see where you're going). If some people didn't enjoy the run, they're in the minority, as the votes will show. There's really no need to lay into them (assuming they're not being rude about it).

mwl; point taken. If walking forwards adds much too much time, then obviously it's not good for a speedrun. There's an entertainment factor to consider here as well, and for those who aren't as familiar with the game (or who missed the link to your route), it might detract from that element. That is all I meant.

I gotta admint that this run, as much as i've been looking forward to it, didn't blow my skirt up (so to speak). This is likely due to my not remembering much about this game. Guanobowl did an excellent job from what I can see, but i've gotta give it a meh. How much longer would this run be if it was played facing forward jumping backwards as much? (if it tacked on even 10 minutes to a 2 1/2 hour run, would that be considered acceptable?) Gotta admint though, JXQ's commentary really helped it along ;) (made me hanker PB&J) Good job though Guano

Yes vote by me, even though that looks like it's quite possibly the most boring game ever made :P My vote is based solely on the fact that you made it through the basement (that and it was a pretty good run to boot) Good job.

Definite yes. Awesome run. Video plays fine if you use the (U) o2 rom as well (fyi).

Very well done. Watched it with an o2 rom with no desync to boot :)

I thought of doing a 100% run, but it prolly wouldn't be much more interesting (the minimalist run still completes 65% of the game :P) If there's any interest though, it would be more fun to watch since for each of the 4 artifacts you cover, it's one less boss you have to fight in the last level (if i remember correctly). You might wanna play the game for yourself though, the dialog is kinda quirky ;)

Thanks Randil. I'm just hoping not to be a one hit wonder, so to speak, but finding a new game to run (and run in an interesting fashion) has been proving to be difficult.

I actually don't think i can save much more time unless i can find a new strategy. I tried a test run where i don't get the gas mask and just heal the damage i take in the sewers, but the dialog boxes that popup saying that i'm dying of the gas takes longer to clear than just getting/using the mask does :(

Man, I thought all interest was gone for this run. I tried doing it over again a few times to see if I could improve the fight against Goliath, because that part is pretty boring (jump jump kick repeat). If there's enough interest though, I could try to shave a few seconds off and have nightshade dance while the scenes fade :)

I was having the same problem lately, but after reading nitsuja's post, I tried changing my sound driver from "snes9x DirectSound" to "FMOD DirectSound" and that seems to have resolved the issue. Thanks nitsuja ;)

Wow. I was going to plan a new run of this game, but seeing that makes me think i should leave it to those better prepared ;)

Looking good. Haven't seen this game played since I got a Game Players Magazine video on how to beat it (which was a good 15 years ago, back when "slow-mo" was the new big thing ... but it was annoying to watch). Can't wait till you're done :)

Wow, what a terrible game :) Definite yes from me on the run though. Who'd have thought the company that would eventually make Panzer General could have cranked out such drek.

The fights are much, much better. Unless there's a better route, I don't really have much else to add :) Good job.

Snes9x (improvement7) crashes whenever i try to load this movie. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a way around it or should I just grab the avi?

nice run. I started one for this game but got frustrated with the menus :P Just one comment on the route; at the carrot plateau, when you talk to the chief, then go into town, couldn't you have gone straight to the chief, then to the cave to fight bananda? once the fights are cleaned up, this should likely be under 40 mins. can't wait to see it.

This is the time attack of the 2nd Star Tropics game ... as far as I know at least.

I'm starting a run of GQII, but seeing as there's a lot of overworld navigation and wading thorugh dialogue, i've got a WIP of the first level done so far and i'm not sure if this'll make for an interesting movie. If anyone want's to check it out, it's here Lemme know if you've got any suggestions or if I should keep going with this one :)

If I remember correctly, you can move and jump diagonally in ST2 whereas in the original, you were locked to the axis. This may make navigating the dungeons slightly faster when you can avoid fights. That's assuming I remember correctly of course ;)

Nice run. I remember playing this game back in the day and never being able to finish it. After trying on and off for about 4 years, who'da thought victory was only 5 minutes away :P Just out of curiosity, there are some places where you drive for a while where it looks like it would have been faster to get out and use the whistle. Are there a limited number of times you can use this item or is it unlimited? All in all though, very nice. Definite yes from me. Nice avatar too. I was actually thinking of running Princess Tomato, but menu driven games aren't always the most exciting to watch ... or are they :)
