The bomb at the beginning halves your life, as does the gas in the sewers, so if you take both hits, you die :( I might retry this run again sometime, but i don't think it's all that improvable (at least i hope not :P). For now, i'm working on finding a new game to attack while i wallow away my last few years before vanishing in a puff of lonliness ;)

jxq2000, I hope I'm not getting a meh cause it was boring to watch :) I'm going to attempt a more action oriented game for the next submission. Doint TAS' is kind of addictive :)

Randil, using Nitsuja's reco's, i'm pretty sure i can get this run under 10 minutes. The real time killers are the ninja fights, so if i can ace those, then this run may actually be ready for final submission :)

Well guys, I've got a new route (slightly) and I think i've got the first fight down now. I've got a wip posted if you wanna check it out and comment. http://www.stoptheban.ca/images/nightshade-v4-wip.rar

I did a quick test and you actually save about 200 frames if you take a hit from the bomb. This halves your life though so i wouldn't have enough to finish the sewers. However, I'm using a slightly different route right now and it's possible that I can actually do it faster if I take the hit, get the gas mask and use that in the sewers, since using an item is faster than wading through the dialog prompts. Once I get a good first fight, I'll post a WIP for you to check out cause I think you'll like some of the new paths I'm using :) (I'm still stuck around 270 frames for this fight .. have yet to come close to your time)

We are here to strive for perfection, so I'm gonna take it from scratch. I think i'll hold off posting the finished product till i'm absolutely sure it'll pass your scrutiny, cause even I wasn't super-impressed with the fights. I figured they could prolly be done faster, but wasn't sure if a few seconds would make or break the movie. I know that's not the greatest attitude, but after staring at the same fight for four hours, i think you just get frustrated (sadly, that ninja mistress fight took me almost a day, and it was frame advanced ... i'm not impressed :P) Zalien, thanks for the vote :) Nitsuja, no comments on the menu navigation this time though so i'll take that as a sign of progress ;)

Dang. I thought mine was better than your's but you're faster than me by about 70 frames or so. I think I'm gonna sit back and re-plan this one (been spending a lot of time on it lately :P) and see what I come up with, maybe in a week or so. Final boss isn't too bad, since you can only hit him once before he dissapears, but I've managed to get three in :) Prolly could be faster though. I'm actually kind of curious if you'd have a different strategy for the ninja's?

Well boys, I've been working on this for a few days now, and I'd think you'll be pleasantly suprised with the final result. All the fights are vastly improved and the menu navigation is almost spot on. Hopefully you'll see this up in the next few days. I'm trying like mad to get this under 10 minutes (i'm at 9:40 right before the last boss), but it may not happen.

Just a coincidence it would seem. I'm not a big fan of FPS' :P. If anyone wants to start a classic Sierra Speedrunning forum, I'll sign up for that :) I usually don't post the WIP since it only takes about an hour and a half to do the whole thing, but if i'm frame advancing, this could take a while. What I'll do is, if I think i've got a good time after beating the first boss, i'll post for comments.

Nitsuja, do you have an fcm of that fight; I'm a little curious as well :) I was actually going to start my next run using Randil's initial run of the first stage, seeing as it's SOO much better than mine ;) (but then I wouldn't learn anything, so if I can beat it by even a frame, I'm going to try). I think what I'm also going to try is optimize the characters position prior to executing a command, since the crosshairs move REALLY slowly. I like your placement for the vendor (well done), I think moving the crosshairs diagonally should save some frames as well.

I guess I'm still struggling with the menu manipulation, but I'll give it another whirl. Thanks again for the feedback. I did most of this at 12% speed, since I'm having some difficulty doing the frame advance through the menus. Maybe you guys could help me on that. If I want to navigate the menus, do I just keep mashing the direction i want the cursor to move and keep pressing Space or is there a better way? Nitsuja, I'll definitely take your suggestion and clean up the fights (especially the 2 against the big guy); see if I can get this under 10 minutes :P

Thanks for the feedback guys. This is my first attempt at a TAS and to tell you the truth (as I see you noticed), I'm not exactly skilled as of yet. I think I need a little more practice playing as a TAS and not as just a game. I fully intend to redo this run because I wasn't exactly impressed, but wanted some feedback regardless. Thanks for not hitting me with a NO, but I will be redoing this again.
