For the spin jump flying version, it looked like you could have fallen down a little farther to the right on the P-switch when you picked it up instead pressing left to slow down so much. As for which is more entertaining, I thought the normal flying looked cooler, but the spin jump flying was also good so I wouldn't mind you choosing it if you can find a way to improve it by more than 2 frames.

Sorry for not mentioning this sooner, but I have a question about before going down that drop. Would it be faster if you jump before the drop and just miss the corner on your way down so that you're already going down faster when you're past the edge of the platform, or does Mario jump slower than he runs in this game, in which case it wouldn't be worth it?

btw, I wonder if Tokushin also hunted for every single frame when he did his 77 minutes time attack on SMB3... He definitely didn't. That movie can be improved a lot.

@Michael: I don't know if I understood you correct... do you mean the drop into the water after I climbed up the vine and jumped on 2 beetles? Actually I could have entered the water 1 frame faster (by jumping off 1 frame earlier), but then I would have lost a lot more time against the first fish, so I think this is the best possible solution. As you go down that drop while carrying the shell, you stay against the right wall, so once you get low enough that you can go to the right, you have to first start accelerating. If you stay against the left wall as you drop down and start going to the right a little before you pass the bottom of the wall, you'll already be going to the right at full speed.

In the water level when you go down the first big drop, maybe you could try staying on the left so you can go right faster when you get low enough.

I thought almost everyone knows how to play tic-tac-toe perfectly. It's so simple you can hardly even call it a game. If you want a more complicated tic-tac-toe style game, try playing go-moku. It's played on a 19x19 gameboard and you have to get 5 in a row to win.

I just downloaded a vid, and basically all it said was "tool-assisted" and had a link to the site. Which vid was that? Was it one that Bisqwit or Phil encoded?

And didn't her letters in SMB3 have her name at the bottom? She signed the letters Princess Toadstool. Right on. Title. First name. Last name. How do you know? She could have just been Princess Toadstool in SMB2 and then changed her name and added in the Peach later on. We had no way of knowing about Peach when SMB2 came out.

Hey, finally a name that sounds familiar. I have wondered where the "Peach" came from. I'm not sure but I think SM64 was the first game that called her Peach. In the pre-N64 days she was always Princess Toadstool. just like Koopa -> Bowser In the SMB manual, he's called "Bowser, King of the Koopa".

So, in short, there's a Princess Peach run because the character is popular. She's Princess Toadstool (in SMB2), not Princess Peach.

There's no reason to use it anymore now that FCEU runs are acceptable. Famtasia lets you play at any speed you want, FCEU doesn't.

In VD1 in the part with the yellow thing moving down, it looks like you could have bounced off of some more of the enemies.

My 5:03.73 fmv for SMB stops when Mario touches the axe and stops moving.

Hmm, didn't Bisqwit play at like 2% for his Rockman movie? Still, that IS ridiculous, especially with the presence of a frame-advance ability. No, he played at 5%. 2% is pointless since it doesn't help your accuracy at all, 5% is slow enough to be as accurate as possible (assuming the emulator doesn't skip frames, which Famtasia doesn't at 5% speed). http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi?id=64

I kept getting so annoyed at the 1000 ms slowlyness in some parts Why do you play at such a slow speed? That's less than 2%, which is rediculous. Anything less than about 5% won't help your accuracy at all since 5% is slow enough to press the buttons at exactly the right frames. As for the way I got to the door in DGH 5 frames faster, just spin fly up against the left edge of the screen, then when you get close to the platform go right and just miss the corner, and experiment by letting go of B in each frame to see which is best, and I think I might have also had to let go of Y for a short time so I wouldn't land too far to the right.

Why does it matter if it takes time? You're gonna have to free him before Cheese Bridge anyway. Unless Yoshi is slower in some levels, then it might be a good idea to get him earlier because since Mario riding Yoshi is taller than just Mario, you can reach the pipe in DP2 earlier after you bounce off the shell.

Does Yoshi even slow you down at all in any of the levels? How fast does Yoshi fly compared to Mario? Btw, maybe it's possible to get to the pipe in DP2 even faster if you have Yoshi for that level. Edit: Oh yeah, about that wait in castle 2, does walljumping work in this game? If it does then you don't need to wait for the platforms to come back to the right. You could also get up there faster if there was some way to magically start spin flying in that tiny little space or if you could somehow get the springboard up there with you, but that doesn't seem very likely, so the walljump is probably your best chance.

Just before you entered the door to the boss, why didn't you kill the enemy with your cape instead of jumping on him? I haven't tested it, but I think it would be slightly faster. Edit: Btw, in case you didn't know this already, you don't need the red switch palace to get the secret exit in VD1, you can get up there by jumping off of Yoshi, though I'm not sure if that would help you in a speed run because you could also get the secret exit later on after you beat start world special while you're making your way back to castle 4. Edit 2: Here's some SMW trivia that you might find interesting. In Donut Ghost House, the exit that leads to Top Secret Area is actually the normal exit, and the exit that leads to Donut Plains 3 is the secret exit. The way I know this is by using the PAR code 00A70649, which causes you to be taken to the Yoshi bonus stage each time you start a level. Falling off the screen in a Yoshi bonus stage causes you to get the normal exit, and when I did that in Donut Ghost House, it took me to Top Secret Area. Edit 3: Another strange thing about this code is that in Chocolate Island 2, it causes the game to freeze, and that's the only level in the whole game (I think) that freezes with this code. The code also doesn't work in water levels. Edit 4: I just tried the code in Bowser's Castle expecting it to freeze the game, but when I finished the Yoshi bonus stage it just took me back to the map screen with nothing changed.

I just tried playing from where you entered the first door in donut ghost house (normal exit), and I got to the next door about 5 frames faster than you. I also spin flew up there instead of flying normally.

What about the ghost house? Did you try redoing that level with your improved flying method?

If とくしんさん means Tokushin, then what does トクシン mean and where did you find it? That's what the nesvideos movie page says his Japanese name is.

I wonder, is this the same as Tokushin, who did the no-warp SMB3 video?) What I'm wondering is where Bisqwit got the name Tokushin from, the fmv doesn't say Tokushin in it and neither does the High Level Challenge website.

http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Denei/3370/SuperTec.htm It turns out that I won't need to ask on the MK message board, I found out where it came from. It's one of the movies on this page: http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Denei/3370/SuperTec.htm That page has a lot of movies so I'll watch more of them and see if there are any more good ones. Edit: I watched some more of the movies and I don't see anything else that's worth publishing, except maybe another tricks movie with a length of 2:44 which ends at 5-2 that's also pretty cool. There's also a movie that beats the game with only 500 points, a movie that shows a glitch at the end of 1-2, a movie that shows how to jump over the flagpole in 1-1, the super baka technique movie that we've all seen already, a few LoZ movies and an AoL movie that aren't too interesting, and some other movies that I haven't watched yet. Edit 2: Bisqwit, how did you know the name of the author of warpless SMB3 movie? Edit 3: I don't know Japanese and Babel Fish's translations suck so it's very hard for me to figure this out, but if I'm understanding correctly, the name of the game is the words in yellow, and the name of the author is the word on the right on the next line, so if I'm correct about this, then the author of both tricks movies that I submitted, the 500 points movie, and the 2up movie (the pic for these is the one that says Now Printing) is 複数人 (he also called himself TokusiN in the 2up movie), the author of the warpless smb3j movie (the pic for this is the end screen) is とくしんさん (he called himself something in the movie but it's just weird symbols so I must not have the font), the author of the warpless SMB movie (the pic for this is the princess thanking Mario) who we've been referring to as Yy is わいわいさん, and the author of the super baka technique movie (the pic for this is Mario jumping on buzzy beetles) is ドーコカラキさん, though I could be completely wrong about all of this, so maybe someone like Boco should check out that page and try to figure it out (btw, do I get an award for the longest run-on sentence ever? I hope none of you happen to be English teachers :).

Even though I have no idea who made it, don't remember where I got it from, and can't find out anything about it with Google, I do remember that I got it from a site that someone linked to on the Mario Kart message board, so maybe if I post about it there then whoever linked to the site might know who made it.
