I thought flying was more or less there for convinience? No, flying is faster than running, and if I understand correctly, doing this trick is the same speed as flying. Do you mind sharing the name of the correct rom? Super Mario World (U) [!]

A funnier thing to prove is that 0.99999... = 1. *is too lazy to think of something more original so copies Bob Whoops* x = .9... 10x = 9.9... 10x - x = 9.9... - .9... 9x = 9 x = 1 Edit: Now let's see who can prove that 1 = 2! :P

Bah to new "sections"... Just make a whole new website for stuff that breaks the rules. Who cares if it breaks rules? Just change the rules and it's fine. I don't see why everyone is making such a big deal about it. Super Demo World is probably the most famous hack so it deserves a TAS.

Anyone care to explain the "OH, MY" thing in 3-8 that allowed him to skip the boss? He shot the boss with an egg if I remember correctly before the boss got a chance to get big. Obviously the "oh my" message proves that it's not a glitch.

No, I'm talking a different level. I forgot which level it was, but you have to use a star so you can run across some fire and then fly up. Edit: Btw, can you post the link again to your vid? I don't think I've watched it yet.

From what I remember, the item you need is usually in the mushroom house in that same world. It's been awhile since I played this game, but I'm pretty sure there was some castle that you needed a star for that wasn't in the same world. I'm too lazy to check it out, though.

Mainly, pressing left basically slows whatever momentum you had going forward, so that wouldn't be a good idea. No it doesn't. Watch the 5:00 vid, he faces left quite a bit to make it look fancier and it doesn't slow him down at all.

Why do you need to go at walking speed? Can't you go at running speed by pressing left for one frame, and then just hold right and jump constantly?

I think a 100% run would be more interesting than just a run without going to star road because I remember there are a lot of interesting secret exits in this game. Also I should point out that you might end up needing to change your route, because if I remember correctly, there are some secret exits where you'll need to go back and get an item from a toad house. Btw, as I was skimming through this topic and saw "Oh, one thing... do we have to technically enter and exit each Top Secret Area to "complete" them besides the one hidden in Water TSA?", for a second I thought to myself "I don't remember going into a Zelda topic". Then I realized it stood for top secret area. :) [/random comment]

There was a 500 points run on the high score challenge site. I'm too lazy to look for the link, but I just put the fmv on yousendit: http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2KDLRMSSTJHY035741VEK4ICOQ

http://canaca.com/ seems to give a pretty awesome deal, but I've never tried it so I don't know if there are any problems with it.

I have a question about 1-2. When you're on the flying carpet, would it be faster to move up and right between each jump rather than just right? Then you could jump off to reach the upper platform sooner. Would the flying enemies hit you if you tried to do this?

It was a stupid trap because technically someone could vote yes without violating any site rules, so people who fall for the trap aren't necessarily abusing the voting system.
Never vote based on expectations! Always view the movie (at least part of it) before voting.
See, the rules even say that it's ok if you don't watch the whole thing. Anyway, I didn't watch the run until after I read Deviance's post so of course I didn't fall for it. :) I don't know if I would have fallen for it if I watched the run when it was first posted. I probably wouldn't have fallen for it because it was kind of obvious that it wasn't a desync and the movements he made after stopping were intentional. Edit: Btw, how did the first 4 levels of this run compare to the run currently on the site? Were they really faster?

This was probably said already (I'm too lazy to read through all those pages), but the main problem seems to be that the person listed as the author of the current movie doesn't always correspond to the person who made the most discoveries in the game, and I think the reasoning of some people who think that Phil's movie shouldn't be published might be because he only made maybe 5% or less of the discoveries in this game. Maybe we should think of this more as working together to make a movie, and when someone makes a new movie it's like adding something to the existing movie. I've never liked it when people refer to a TAS maker as something like "the TAS world record holder". What's so special about that 1 person who happened to be the last one to make a discovery in a game? How about this crazy idea: List them all as authors (Phil, Sleepz, Genisto, Bisqwit). Or maybe this idea is even better: List all people who made discoveries as "screenwriters" and list the one person who did the recording for the current version as the "actor". Edit: Btw, I just voted meh. Before Bisqwit yells at me for not downloading the fcm, I did watch the side by side version that DeHackEd made.

Good call. You get to do Rockman, Metroid and SMB1. Well I wouldn't be able to do Megaman or Metroid since I don't know a lot about those games, but I could do SMB. I could probably also do SMB3. Btw, do you think there should be a page for each game, or one page for every game? Should only popular games be included? What would be a good name for the page? ImprovementHistoryPage? StratImprovementTimeline?

I haven't watched Phil's run yet, but as long as there are no parts that are less entertaining, I don't see the problem with publishing it (see next paragraph to see why). The only problem is that I'm not much of a fan of wobbling which can get kind of annoying. I think I have an idea that would solve at least part of the problem of people not being credited properly. There could be a history page for each game that lists all the TASs done for that game and explains what improvements were made in each one.

But if he does this game, then it might prevent him from doing a cooler game. How about an SMK TAS, Phil, or maybe a Link's Awakening TAS (without the warp glitch)? If you're not up for either of those 2, then I'll be the 5th person who wants to see a warpless SMB2J TAS.

Do you or anyone else happen to have the smv to a score this high? I'd be interested in seeing it, and I didn't find any on this or the other forum discussing it. http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2SM4EMNFTO79J12JMWABU8R23X And my 4897 without save states: http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0DO2GX7RW4YVV3KDI7FYSL5ZPF

You have 5 minutes to get as many points as you can. The name of the rom is Donkey Kong Country - Competition Cartridge (U).

A DKCCC TAS being published would be a good idea, I don't see what the problem would be. For the record, my best score with no save states was 4897, and Penev got 5061 with save states (there are smvs for both of those, I can upload them if anyone needs them). It can probably be a little higher, but nowhere near 6000 is possible, I doubt it can even be improved by over 100.

make a run for 2 games that wouldnt be cool to watch separately and make a single movie with them That's an interesting idea, maybe it could be something like Mario Bros./Donkey Kong.

I think 2 runs for the same game would be very interesting, like Super Mario World for example where one run starts from a save state and is always several levels ahead of the other run. Maybe ALttP would also be good, but it might be too hard because you're not going in the same direction most of the time. Another possibility is a single fcm that completes both the first and second quest of LoZ (the second quest movie would start from a savestate of course). As for 2 different games, I'm too lazy to check if anyone already suggested this, but SMB and SMB3 would be good.

I just got 216 at 100% speed with no save states. Edit: I didn't record the 216 run, but I just did a 210 run and recorded that, so here's the fcm: http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3LPKN7P2SV45B35TF8UM1A1HPJ

Michael - Before video games existed, the trade of "keeping secrets" was around long before...I'm sure you already know, though. Magicians are big time practitioners of this. In fact, if you give away magical tricks, you're black balled. Imagine if we did that in the speed run community? Are you implying that you're not annoyed? Then... wait a minute, did you edit your post on SDA? I could've sworn you said you were annoyed, or am I just imagining things?
