Excellent work Vidar although I should probally have ommited the coming statement but... I think you missed the robot in Corneria City which costed you +5 and I'm sure back when I played this game that there was enemies to hit in the background during the first boss, but then again bosses hit points decrease as time goes on so you might get a worser deal. I couldn't see this getting improved by any more than 10 hits without doing Expert mode. Why is there a talk on testing every level when there is a very much a well accepted route through the game i.e CRN>>AST>>KAT>>SEC_X>>MAC_B>>AREA_6>>VENOM Just move on.

Umm, its called segmenting a run. And you can easily do it with mupen. Did you see the Zelda 64 run? Theres no way that was all done in a single segment.
I don't know what you mean or what you're refering to.

You can do the moat blocks a bit quick if you side hop, also was the hop into the water neccessary when meeting Mido that section could be done with a side hop and a backflip as oppossed to the water but an incredible improvent. Although that wasn't the best way to dispose the deku babas I guess it makes no real difference since you have to wait for one of them to drop a stick in the first place.

Now that I am in the Deku Tree, I will need some thinking. Is skipping the slingshot worth it? What all do I need it for? If it is skipped, how many seconds will it ~save?
The slingshot is not worth skipping since its needed to do the bomb hover in Dondongo's in order to get the bomb bag. Even if it was skipped it wouldn't save you any more than 30 seconds throughout the entire duration of the game.

Very good although I'm slightly mythed on how you only improved 1 second off bkDJ's run desptite all these new strategies that you use. The only bit I could really critizize is the swimming, but I can emphasise because I really hate swimming and Clankers Cavern is enough to put me off doing this game. Does that Super flip flap move that me and bk use make any difference to the speed Banjo travels? I think you should just move on since we've spent enough time on SM.

Why not just purely go for a high score run, submit that, then do an expert run, but unless you use a predefined save or plan on using a different routes on the same movie file till you eventually get all medals then I don't think we'll ever see a expert run being done.

Finally managed to watch it, the reason I couldn't watch it before was because I didn't have the most upto date emulator. Generally it was very good and I espeacially liked all the mushroom juggling around about the vanilla dome. However, I'm of the opinion that this movie isn't worthy of star status mainly because its so long and does get very repetive throughout and I could also see potential improvements and shortcuts espeacially ones that might avoid the timed sequeces i.e. moving yellow walls. I think sub 1:20 might be possible although that might be pushing the boat out too far. The bowser battle is definitley the best I 've seen out of all the movies. So to sum up "Did you enjoy this movie?" In terms of speed? Yes it was very quick and would certainly catch the eye of the expertly skilled gamer In terms of entertainment? Generally yes although some of the stuff got too repetive a bit more varation was needed. The vote? Well, there is no reason whatsoever to vote no, nor is meh a good enough option. I really do think a best out of ten system would be better, as I would of given it an 8 and in terms of percent I would have given it 92% (yes, confusing I know I'll explain why shortly). That might sound confusing but an eight is to signify that its not a high 9. Since I can't rate I'll simply have to vote yes.

Are you using sword spins? I beleve its possible to hit four bushes with one in the training area. BTW you can hit two plants and once with a non lock on thrust after you speak to Mido.

OK I edited it and now its a 48 frame improvement which means I've achived the fastest on any stage in Sonic. http://rapidshare.de/files/30871610/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_1_ALL_EMERALDS.gmv.html

Well lookie lookie I think I managed to shave off 3 frames or was it more than that please someone clarify for me. http://rapidshare.de/files/30721493/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_1_ALL_EMERALDS.gmv.html EDIT: Opps I just realised an improvement of at least 10 frames.

BTW Guano skipping slingshot is pointless since you need it to perform the hover to the bomb bag in DC. I thought I might as well say that, it only saves 30 seconds if it was skipped anyway. What did you get for the ruppee run minus the white screen?

Star Light one is done with a 3 frame improvement http://rapidshare.de/files/30611114/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_1_ALL_EMERALDS.gmv.html Here's how it breaks down +1 with an earlier jump to the first bouncer (no offence but how could that mistake be made) = +1 +2 with an earlier earlier jump to the first red bouncer (spent ages trying to manipulate this) = +3 -1 with an slightly higher jump of the spiral platforms (holding A for 2 frames instead of one) , this was a necesscary to avoid losing 7 frames later on because this way the animation was set for the jump to the second red bouncer = +2 -1 since I had to delay the jump on the downward section leading to the second red bouncer = +1 + 1 with an earlier jump to the second boucer (again hard to manipulate) = +2 +1 earlier roll and jump going past the first fan and accelerating for longer in the second fan = +3 I'm fairly confident that 21 seconds is impossible. I mean where could 11/12 frames be gained in such a short level. Unless Sonic could somehow get caught in the wall where the falling stairs are and then zip through it.

Correct me if Im wrong but you need the Goron Mask to fight against certain bosses. Of course, you dont need it but the fights would be faster with it. Am I correct?
If you are refering to Goht then no it actually slower to use Goron Mask against him, You simply fire a string of arrows at him from a distance.

There's no point in collecting Cheato books. When I watched the speedrun a little while ago the cheatos weren't collected. Although I think the eventual time will end up being somewhere around 2:30 on the in game clock. The simpliest way to put it is 100 jiggies 1000 notes 26 honeycombs It doesn't get anymore complicated than that. (Or does it)

I don't want to see any time wasted through sake of being more entertaining. I couldn't be certain if the Goron Mask is worth skipping. Instead of testing you'll have to have a good long think about it and test how quickly you can do Goron sections as Link compared to what a Goron can do and then you'll have to check how long it takes to get the mask itself. This could simply be done by watching previous speedruns.

Yay finally done but no improvement. However, I did gain and lose frames in certain areas -1 frame because of lag in tunnel = -1 +1 because I let go of pole earlier = 0 -1 because of lag when falling onto vertical climbing section = -1 +2 due to improved jump where two robots are = +1 -1 because I couldn't get the early bounce off Robotnik = 0 +1,+1 in various secions during Robotnik = +2 -1 near the end of Robotnik = +1 -1 since I could land on the switch any earlier = 0 So quite a roller coaster but it'll be very hard to notice all that in real time. Again all this annoying favourable/unfavourable randomness. Here it is http://rapidshare.de/files/30520883/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_1_ALL_EMERALDS.gmv.html Finally got through the fucking Labarinth stages no wonder everyone seems to give up on them (all though its not over yet), the bit I hated most about them is the vertical climbing sections with small right angled ledges pointing out since you have to go through at least 50+ jumping combinations. EDIT: BTW JXQ when you were refering to Star Light 1+2 I don't think its very likely that the timer will be lowered since you were... Act 1 was 15/16 frames from a 21 Act 2 was 28 frames from a 16 although there is definitley a few questionable things that you did. Although it takes a critical eye to see them, I couldn't be guaranteed that I have improvements and even if they were improvements there only gonna be 1/2 improvements which isn't enough to lower the ingame timer. There's more chance of lowering the timer in Labarinth 2, since its a long level and I was 15/16 frames from lowering the ingame timer, and even still I don't think it could be improved by more than 10 frames with most 1/2 frame improvemts over certain jumps and turns. Although it would probally go into the 1000's to get it lowered since you'd have to go into useless tapping of certain buttons to see if you can manipulatate certain landings and jumping on edges of platform as well as being able to clip through certain corners of ledges. Anyway Labarinth is done and done onto Star Light Tommorow.

Is this a test run or a real run? To me it looks like slowdown has been used throughout the entirety of the movie and 2079 re-records for roughly 25 mins of sonic action is way to few since it should be much closer to 20,000 re-records and the visual imperfections show there is no need to go anytwhere near frame advance to spot the mistakes. This doesn't seem that much better than my test run of Sonic 1. Although in his defence bobxp is probally more skillful at 2D sonic in real time compared to me hence has produced a better run than me compared to my test run which entirely used slowdown altering between speeds of 3 to 10%. Aside all that I would still reluctantly vote yes since there is a lot of Kick ass Super Sonic action, but beware this run will probally be obsoleted by 2 mins in the future if anyone chooses to do this monsterous task.

Sounds impressive, I thought that wouldn't be possible on a console since by the time the right speed is gained Mario would be too high up the elavator and would simply go right through the ness room. I doubt it could be used to go directly into the Green Cap Palace, since the area probally isn't loaded. I also doubt that its possible to go directly into the star, you would have to get 100 BLJ's within 2 seconds, which is mathmatically impossible. The chances are that Mario will need to fall onto the star. It would be good if you showed a video of what you've been able to do on a console.

Will you actually be using it? Since that would look really cool if you flew directly into the star, although I couldn't put any real certainty if its actually doable, and even if it is, it would probally take 1000's of re-records to get it done. Whats bits have actually caused you the most trouble? Since I tried to do that hyper speed glitch in BoB but I couldn't build up and maintain the speed nearly enough to reach King Bomb Omb. I couldn't even get past the Chain Chomp with it. Also can that elavator in Whomps Fortress be used for anything?

The termite skip should still be tested none the less, but don't you need it for the jiggy on top on MM in the Gruntdila's lair. Also to Mumbo Tokens carry over to different worlds.

Just want to say I finally done that dreaded water section in act 3. I seriously was thinking about giving up since I thought I'd never be able to get past it without drowning, but yeah I escaped at the last possible frame and now I'm one frame up at the start of the boss.

I don't know if this is already known but I wonder if the glitch at the end of the video has any use, its just a very quick way to enter the ness room, but its still difficult even in frame advance since I often incremented the jump counter too much so that Mario passed directly through the room and out of the boundaries resulting in an instant death. This shows how to get to the Metal cap palace early, but I wonder if its possible to fly directly into the star. It probally still wastes more time than heading there directly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcP0QOCI9XM

Talon Trot and flying will be the main mode of transport throughout the game. -------------------- I had a go at SM and I was quite a bit slower than bkDJ but I did do a couple of bits better than he did. 1. Quicker rock clearence 2. Better log jump to the honeycomb The collywobble jump drove me mad after hundreds of attempts so I just used bkDJ's file again. Here it is http://rapidshare.de/files/30245337/bk_badTAS-bkDJ.m64.html I'm pretty sure that 2:02 would be a perfect run, since no way does all honeycombs in 1:40 then an exit of 2:00 match up.

Very good bkDJ although I'm convinced I could cut another second off it maybe even 2 altough most likely 1. I'll have a go at it in a couple of days though, but could you please explain the timing and the button press for that weird feathery flap on a frame by frame basis, but just as I thought the collywobble area can only be entered early if you backflip at the seams. 150 re-records isn't that much for one tricky stunt espeacally as that jump I did to get into the collywobble area took over 300 to do, if you count the early jump at the right running angle as well.
