Now that 2008 is here, we should start creating new threads with polls.

Mh, it's been a while since I've actually played the game, but afaik you need all three spiritual stones. If you play the SoT without all three the door doesn't open and they kind of freeze in mid-air or something, don't they?
You can't get the Song of Time without all three Spiritual Stones. Once you have all three and go to HTCM, the cutscene of Impa and Zelda escaping plays, Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time in the moat, you pick it up, and that's when you learn the SoT.
This wasn't my point. Try using cheats to get the SoT, then play it in the ToT. Iirc the door stays closed if you don't have all three stones. And iirc the spiritual stones kind of fuse into one above the pedestal and get stuck there instead.
Its not possible with standard cheats in PJ64 to assign just the SoT to Link's quest status, other than checking the give all quest status items box. You can get round it you play the SoT on the carpet exit and re-enter ToT and play the same tune again. Personally I think if Link has the just the SoT and no stones then the door will open normally the first time.

I'm just wondering here. Since the speeddemosarchive run of this game is 6 minutes faster than the TAS, should this TAS be considered obsolete?
Both runs are considered to be using obselete strategies.

While the hack does show better tool-assistance compared to the last one, the hack doesn't really allow for a a good run, for example forcing players to use the turtle glitch is not a great idea unless they need to get through a series of long and complicated obstacles, enough to mimimize the wait. The hack reminds me of the Second Reality Project which isn't paticularly a good thing.

Very impressive you finished this, regardless of what optimization you tried to get.

Yes vote, no need to re-emphasise the exact same reasons.

Has anyone tested every weapon that is possible to use as a child on Gohma? We only had the slingshot or deku nuts for options before, but if the boomerang or bombchus will work, that will give us another item to skip.
Yes, nothing else works apart from Slingshot or Deku nuts

I'm gonna vote 'no' to this. Either way the run doesn't satisfy the good conditions of a TAS, it neither plays for entertainment or speed. It felt like a real time player playing through the game with great caution and savestates.

Tool Assisted Superplay Not... Tool Assisted Speedrun Hell, you can even read the sign in the top left there, see? Of course, "superplay" is somewhat vague in its definition.
I'm sure that used to say speedruns instead of superplay... I'm unable to look through the sites history just to quickly verify but the title does seem changed for the sake of convenience.

Besides, it shows of a variety of glitches, stunts and tricks in a unique way, and has its advantages over places like YouTube and single demonstration movies in several ways. 1. Just as it says. Seeing something you did not expect gives a different and much more satisfying effect than being told what you are going to see before you see what you're going to see, which is often the case, at least in my experience.
Doing the unexpected does not mean do something purley for the sake of surprise. Also going by what your saying you could just as easily say that you were expecting to see L+R to be used and the mushroom house death, or you were expecting the warp pipe glitch to be missed.

3. You get to hear the sounds and music that naturally occur during the game, giving an element of depth to it. A number of YouTube videos seem to carry music not from the game within them, which you may or may not like, but at any rate, doesn't give the same feeling as hearing what goes on within the game itself. Of course, this isn't always the case, but that leads us to...
The reason for that is because sound desyncs when recording with FRAPS so its better just to put a track over it, also the 'God Playing' movie had music in it, half of which I didn't like.

4. With this, you get high-quality playback! Also, you don't need to wait for the entire video to s-l-o-w-l-y l-o-a-d.
I think most people would agree that watching a flash video is many times more convenient than downloading then watching the video. Most flash videos I see load quick enough so I can watch it all the way through. Of course you could easilly download the rom and play back the movie file.

6. It tries to keep a good speed throughout all the chaos going on, and the glitches and stuff are pulled off well.
Thats a description of a speedrun not a playaround.

7. It's more amusing than frame wars in which people compete to see who can reduce lag the most, as the fastest possible strategies have already been developed. At least in my opinion. I'm sure others share it. While to some people, three frames that the human eye will not even notice will make enough of a difference to worship the runner as their new god for at least a brief period of time, others get bored of such things after a while, and want something different. This is something different, I am an other, and there are others.
This all comes down to familarity, if countless people claim that a movie is perfect and can't possibly be improved then of a course a few frames improvement is quite an achievement. Also after TASing a lot and watching other TASes you begin to notice a lot of minor mistakes in other peoples work (including your own). Also being different does not mean publishing dumming down movies instead. To cap I object to the description 'glitchfest' and would instead favour 'playaround' since they are speed orientated movies are far more glitcher.

That was another point PaToby brought up. Would collecting an item and getting an upgrade count towards a min% e.g. poachers saw >> broken goron sword. In essence really you should put as much focus on skipping the most major items possible. For example I brought up the point of getting a wallet upgrade by getting ten skulltullas and paying 200 ruppees for 10 bombchus in the wasteland. IMO you should definitley be skipping slingshot, kokiri sword, bombs and possibly the Hylian shield as well.

Watch the current TASes on Mupen using frame advance. BTW, did you mean to say 'in' instead of 'on' :-) Now someone merge this thread into the current topic.

I nominate a sort of "boobie prize" category -- Gruefood of the Year. Not sure if thats a good idea but... I'll throw in Super Metroid ingame run for the banter.

You can use BA to get the deku stick on B as a child. EDIT: I know its possible to get one item but not the other but skip what would be most unexpected. Kokiri Sword/Deku sticks Slingshot/Deku nuts bombs/bombchus

If there was a category "greatest glitch discovery" I assume the flag pole glitch in SMB would win that hands down...
Best glitch discovery would make a good catagory since its not the same as glitchest TAS. I think getting past the 30 star door in SM64 would strongly rival your claim.

Why would you goto the Deku Tree first if you can skip the Kokiri Sword.

BTW, what you've mentioned isn't even remotely a min%. Also I feel it would be too simalar to a any% run, plus you could have posted this in the main topic.

JXQ, you might want to use strikethrough html in order to show whats been obseleted. You also have mr_robert_z's run as a currently published movie instead of a obselete run. As whats been hinted eariler I think creating an award, nominees and a short list would be the best idea. That way new threads can be created with polls. Also you can try and use the thread to create awards and statistics based on hard facts.

You gotta be hard core to beat this game. The enemies never seem to give Robocop a break (not that he cares, he's a robot). Voting yes
