In Any%, the optimal route to pass this Boss is 2 death abuses before the last 2 nut throws. Dying only for the last 2 throws because Manny respawning just under the nut is faster than jumping back to it.
In 100% however, each damage and death makes me lose 1 acorn. I need to keep at least 40 acorns by the end of the level. According to my research, 41 is the highest number of acorns I could keep before entering the Boss screen. Having any additional acorn is way too slow (weither from picking a new acorn or saving a damage boost).
As a result, I had to test 2 different routes:
1) Figuring out the fastest way to keep 40 acorns before entering the Boss screen, then passing the Boss without any damage boost or death abuse.
2) Optimizing the unique route with 41 acorns before entering the Boss screen, then affording myself only 1 damage boost or 1 death abuse.
It turned out that route 2 is faster, and the fastest damage is the death abuse before the final nut throw.

Hello, I've improved the current movie by 29 frames. I don't think that it is worth submitting a new movie for only 29 frames saved. I saved a frame here, another there thanks to a better use of Manny's trunk. The new movie is uploaded in my user files.

It's safe to judge, I don't see any more improvements based on the current knowledge of the category. I just stopped searching new things since I tried all my ideas to save frames. If anything new is ever found to make the new movie go under 198301 frames, then I'll submit a new one (198301 is the limit to break sub 55 for a RTA time).

The actual 100% category of Rayman 3 GBA from speedrun.com requires only the 1000 yellow lums and 50 cages as collectibles. Since both Ly's Punch Challenge levels don't contain any of those collectibles, the category doesn't impose the player to complete those 2 bonus levels. It would have been required in another category in which the player had to collect the remaining collectibles, namely all red lums and all white lums. To be honest, I'm just guessing the reasons, I'm not sure why the Ly's Punch Challenge levels were removed in the first place.

1. It is possible to hit a ring that way, I did it once in Razor Slide in my 100% TAS. It doesn't make any difference compared to a regular hit. Whatever the way Rayman hits a purple lum, on the next frame he will recover the same position. However, if Rayman is moving on the opposite direction from the lum while his fist hits it, then he will swing backwards as if he arrived from the other direction. So not much interesting things happen. The problem with a very long tether is that Rayman can reach the bottom of the screen. If the bottom is lava or a pit, then he will die. If it is regular land, then Rayman will cross through the ground and eventually die. The only benefit is that it creates a longer and faster swing.
2. I took damage for messing around yes, but also I wanted to minimize inputs wherever I could except where I tried to manipulate RNG. Pressing A, L and R for entertainment only during both autoscrollers had an impact on the lag frame count of the level and modified the RNG for Jano and/or the final Boss.
