How underhanded to tack on rules that invalidate people's nominations on the last day of the last hour of nominations!
Sorry about that - it's a consequence of objections raised to nominations that were made on the last few hours of the last day of nominations. It was not exactly something I anticipated for, and with how soon nominations are due to close it was needed to come up with something quickly. For future years I will try to resolve these sorts of issues in the nomination process ahead of time.

adelikat, Aglar,
I would like to object to these two being nominated for TASer of the year. For both of them, they’ve only made one movie this year while the other movie of theirs was an improvement done by someone else, while using their inputs.
I think this objection is reasonable with an asterisk: players are listed here for eligibility because they fit some criteria for this category, so if reasonable objections can be made to nominations, it might also be reasonable to examine the eligibility criteria.
The only criteria to be in the eligibility list is to have a published TAS in the year. That does not mean that everybody is equally viable for the award - if it were, then we wouldn't have a need for nominations at all. Now, nominations normally are not examined that thoroughly (besides fitting the basic eligibility criteria), but when people make nominations that quite clearly are not up to par compared to the rest, it does nothing but add bloat to the polls. That's why nominations can be vetoed (as long as it does not come down to merely difference in taste). Following the consensus that seems to be built in this thread, adelikat and Aglar will not be included on the poll, on grounds of their respective outputs simply not matching up to other nominees.

I'm vetoing this nomination, it is 4 frames slower than and virtually indistinguishable from the non-obsoleted movie which is also nominated. There can be reasons sometimes to nominate obsolete movies, but I don't see any good reason in this case.

Something I've been working on in the past few days: a verification movie file to unlock all characters. This can potentially be used for submittable TASes for All-Star Mode, Event Mode, Target Test, Home-Run Contest, Multi-Man Melee, or anything else that requires characters to be unlocked. This verification movie is made for the PAL version of the game (by PracticalTAS' request). I might make a NTSC version at some point in the future, if there is demand for it. The verification movie file is almost two and a half hours long, with the vast majority being a Lua-botted loop of Captain Falcon running off Jungle Japes in Stamina Mode for 989 games straight. The reason Stamina Mode is used is that it is fastest because it has no victory screen - this also has the side effect of not granting any stage/character/trophy unlocks either, but it does add up the versus counter, so that the unlock battles (and other unlocks) are queued up for later. The remaining five minutes consists of running off stage in Lightning Mode instead, which does trigger a victory screen, and therefore triggers character unlock battles. This is done 11 times, so that the versus count ends at 1000 - this is the requirement for the Mr. Game & Watch unlock battle, which is the final unlocked character in the game. Captain Falcon is used for the Jigglypuff unlock battle, and then Jigglypuff is used for the rest (pun intended). I didn't encode the whole thing for obvious reasons, but I did make a partial encode that skips out most of the repetition and showcases the general route and unlock battles: Link to video Movie file is available here: User movie #68587254092346677 Dolphin 5.0 Lua Core was used. It should be sync-compatible with vanilla Dolphin 5.0, although I haven't checked directly.

As of today, movies made by Mednafen-rr, PCEjin and VBjin (.mcm and .mc2 formats) will no longer be supported for submission. These emulators are highly outdated, with Mednafen-rr last having had an update in 2009, VBjin in 2010, and PCEjin in 2013. All the platforms that these emulators were uesd for are also supported by BizHawk with significantly better tools and, in most cases, better emulation cores. This includes Virtual Boy (for VBjin), PCE/PCECD/SGX, WSWAN, Lynx, NGP, and PCFX. Mednafen-rr has not had a new submission since 2010, PCEjin has not had a new submission since 2010, and VBjin has not had a new submission since 2016 (before BizHawk implemented a Virtual Boy core, which has been used for all VBoy submissions since then). Therefore, I don't anticipate that the dropping of these emulators will cause any significant issue. In case anybody is actually working on a movie in one of these emulators, you can post here and I will grant a continuance. Continuances can be granted until the end of January 2021 (UTC).

I think in general it bears noting that RPG movies, particularly ones as long as this one, are enormously tough to judge. Many strategy or routing choices look obvious to an expert of the game, but are hard to notice or grasp to anybody that isn't. All a judge could really do in this case is either give the author the benefit of the doubt, or to search out for other experts of the game to get them to weigh in on the movie. The latter is not always an easy or even viable option. Despite many of the criticisms noticed, I don't think this movie would necessarily be perceived as suboptimal to a more casual onlooker without the inside knowledge of Omnigamer's post. That still fulfills one of the key aims of the judgment process: we cannot expect every movie to look perfect to everybody, but they need to look clean to the general audience. If this movie passes that criteria, then this is not necessarily a wrong judgment. As for the experts, since everything that's needed to improve the movie is known and documented here, one of them could make a new submission that fixes all these issues and obsoletes this movie.

EZGames69 not only has more movies than anyone else by a long haul, they are almost all of high quality as well, across a wide variety of different systems with very good diversity.

There are various good showcases of luck manipulation, including the obligatory Pokémon nominations: [4163] GB Pokémon: Blue Version by TiKevin83 in 1:29:35.61 [4372] GBC Pokémon: Gold Version by CasualPokePlayer in 2:52:57.88 [4278] GBA Pokémon: Emerald Version "game end glitch" by merrp in 54:54.81 There's also this way shorter movie that displays breaking a well-known game apart by funny amounts of luck: [4104] NES Monopoly by adelikat in 00:29.53

[4320] GBA Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance by hellagels, klmz in 04:58.46 is one of the more unique-looking games in terms of broken-ness, which makes it nice for this award. The way the camera stops working (outside of transitioning rooms) and half of the action happens off-screen is a creative form of glitchery. [4342] NES Castlevania by Challenger in 10:18.91 also gets a nomination for taking a classic TAS of a classic game and adding some significant breaks to it.

[4257] GB Donkey Kong by DrD2k9 in 54:15.44, a very nice movie with a lot of diverse puzzle-platforming action. Funny how despite being a major franchise game of which a TAS has been anticipated for many years, it has taken until now to get a TAS of it published, but better late than never.

[4360] Arcade Tetris the Absolute: The Grand Master 2 Plus "T.A. Death" by Masterjun in 03:20.02 - some of the craziest Tetris action available, with the medals adding some nice side goals along the way. Crazy fast and highly entertaining.

[4290] Windows I Wanna Be the Boshy "Dark Boshy" by shar in 22:22.22 - this sort of game naturally lends itself well to a TAS viewing, constantly defying death at every turn. A nice variety of action and retro gaming throwbacks follows. A very nice watch.

[4159] DS Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin "1000%" by mtbRc in 38:11.56, one of my favorite examples of crazy movement in a Metroidvania title, with the full map completion goal being the perfect way to demonstrate it. Lots of silliness throughout.
