It's actually 128 frames (a bit over 2 seconds) for all bosses.

Yeah, not a good idea. Dust Man is one of the hardest stages in my opinion. I think Ring Man's the best choice to do first, him being weak to the buster and all.
Catastrophe wrote:
Since Ring Man is coincidentally Dust Man's weakness, I went back to fight him.
Actually, the weakness order has changed. Ring Man is Bright Man's weakness. Dust Man is weak to Toad Man's weapon. Then again, some weapons are very effective to many bosses.

That's definitely true. When you get a few weapons, the stages suddenly become much easier.

It varies. Some do, some don't, and there doesn't seem to be any particular pattern or reasoning as to which ones do and do not. (The current PoR TAS has one screen, for instance, while the current DoS TAS has both)

Screenshot suggestion: It's fun to see the entirely messed up castle map from all the sequence breaking. Also, there are so many numbers on screen that it made some of the lifebar graphics disappear. Though if we're going with a single screen image, here's an alternative suggestion: I think those numbers clearly show there's something quite unusual going on.

I prefer the original motto. Grammatical correctness be damned. Who goes to the internet to expect literally perfect English anyway? I support the middle line being changed to "Tool-assisted video game movies", though.

As I've told you at least twice already, your double and triple posts are useless. There is ZERO REASON for them to be in multiple posts. There is NO PURPOSE to posting them separately. Listen for once, geez.

Have you, by any chance, missed the post wherein I stated that this happens to other double and triple posts as well? Again, the multiple posts are useless and could all fit well in one single post. Use the edit button. And I didn't modify anything of the content this time. There's no "destructive modification" at all.

No. Just no.
Pointless Boy wrote:

Obnoxious and annoying are filed under disruptive and uncivil behavior respectively. The Forum Rules say that this is determined by moderator opinion; FractalFusion objected to the images, I object to the images. You are not in a position to argue this.
Pointless Boy wrote:
As I specified earlier, I was careful to be considerate of others by using small images that wouldn't unexpectedly interfere with the forum browsing experience. I didn't do that because I wished to skirt some imaginary line, but because I genuinely didn't want to be particularly disruptive. And you couldn't think of not using very annoying flashing GIF animations for that? If you didn't want to be disruptive, then use static images. Animations are far more likely to be disruptive than even much larger images.

I have also consistently been one of the most civil people in this thread. Excepting my (justifiably) righteous outrage in response to FractalFusion's abhorrent abuse of his moderator privileges, I have been calm, collected, and level-headed throughout this entire debate. The same can't be said for many people in this thread, for example, Mr. Kelly R. Flewin, or KennyMan666. Note that I do not personally believe their actions to be consistently abusive enough to warrant moderation, but surely if an objective party were bent on moderating posts in this thread, moderation would start with the likes of those.
The other instances are irrelevant. We're not talking about their posts, we're talking about yours. You deliberately triple posted with no clear reason (making for at least two useless posts), and you inserted a few massively obnoxious animated image files. We're talking about you who did these things, not anyone else. No other user in this topic made a deliberate triple post nor added unneeded animated images to his posts. You did.
Pointless Boy wrote:
Singling me out for doing nothing more than calmly, dispassionately, and steadfastly defending my position against various levels of uncalled for vitriol surely indicates FractalFusion is unfit to be a moderator, no matter what motivated his inappropriate behavior.
Actually, this would have been long resolved with if you weren't so adamant in defending your stance that FractalFusion's moderation was out of place/uncalled for/inappropriate/whatever. It wasn't. In fact, just a few days ago, FractalFusion did the same to another cluster of posts. There was zero problem there. You know why? Because the user didn't throw out repeated unnecessary complaints that his triple post was merged. We would be long done with this if you settled your case. But instead you had to bring this up again and again.
Pointless Boy wrote:

Nope.

Just because you have the ability to do something doesn't mean that you would be correct in exercising that ability. You are "technically" allowed to do many, many terrible things. Oh hey look, Godwin's Law. Never thought you'd go sink that low. Although I do believe we need a new term for this one. Reductio ad Breivicum? Either way, this comparison is utterly ridiculous and you should well know it. Also, I don't think there was any technical allowance for murder in that situation (nor this one, nor ever really), so the comparison is not only uncalled for and offensive, it's also utterly irrelevant.

Pointless Boy, the moderator actions were not "wildly inappropriate". It's a near universal forum rule that one must not double post/triple post/multi post, as these are generally disruptive and occasionally considered spam. The Forum Rules, which you like to refer to, state that "making multiple useless [...] posts", like spam, is considered disruptive posting, which is not allowed. Therefore, it's reasonable for the moderation staff to interfere. The imagery was clearly obnoxious and annoying. This was, again, disruptive, and intentional obnoxious behavior is more than likely considered uncivil, and uncivil behavior is also not allowed as per the Forum Rules. Again, the moderators are allowed to edit your message for cleaning out the uncivil behavior. So you can see, FractalFusion was clearly following the Forum Rules in his moderation, and therefore you shouldn't have any reason to complain. Also, technically, as moderators are site staff, we are allowed to do whatever we want with anyone's posts. Deal with it. Post scriptum: We are not censoring anything. None of your text was modified in any way. The only things removed were useless flashing .gif images. Claiming your expression was stifled in any way is bullshit.

Because a moderator did abuse his power. My posts were substantive, unique in content, and not posted in rapid succession.
They were nothing that would have necessitated additional posts. The edit button, use it. I only consider multi-posts meaningful if either:
  • There's a significant time gap between the posts (at least 1 day or so, the timespan for your posts was definitely way too little)
  • It's an update with significant content (e.g. a new WIP in a game thread; just another response in a debate thread doesn't warrant a new post in short succession)
Your posts were neither.
Pointless Boy wrote:
There was no reason to merge them other than to make a show of exerting some control over the thread.
Reasons for merging multi-posts:
  • Make the thread easier to read (contrary to what you think, this is more convenient for the vast majority of people)
  • Restrict post count increase abuse
A "show of exerting control over the thread"? What are you even talking about? FractalFusion simply did his job as a mod, removing clutter from the thread. What is your problem with this?
Pointless Boy wrote:

The pictures were deleted because they were unnecessary and more distracting than anything. I don't see how merging posts is "abuse" in any way, shape or form. And it has nothing to do with "stifling your expression". Stop thinking it was done to target you. It wasn't.

No, it's not. Merging posts does not have any destructive or disruptive effect. (Other than to your post count, but that's an entirely irrelevant factor). These images, however, do. They're obnoxious, flashy, and serve no purpose at all. The rest of the rant about this lowering the threads's quality by making it "harder to read" (WTF?) is also meaningless.

I've been reading your posts, and (especially from your last one) it doesn't seem like you're arguing in good faith either. The entire post is just a sesquipedalian way of saying "Your opinions are all invalid because my English is better than yours" and you're disqualifying other people's opinions regardless of whether they are even native English speaking or not. Actively listing and pointing out grammatical and spelling mistakes is also an entirely pointless attack to the opponent, as it doesn't actually have to do anything with what the discussion is about. i can tlak liek dis, and still have very good knowledge on English spelling and grammar, regardless of whether I actually apply it or not. Also, your references to numerous "English experts" are entirely meaningless without other backup. "I consulted five experts and they all straightly agreed with me" doesn't exactly say much to me. I could easily say "I consulted 300 experts of American English and they say your experts are all wrong". It doesn't really mean anything, as it's too easy to make this all up.

If I were you, I'd have probably derailed this guy's opinion because his capitalization is ass, and that there needs to be a period at the end. Then I'd claim that this invalidates his entire opinion on everything because clearly this guy's English expertise is not up to par. Also, considering his grasp of English is according to you "equivalent to yours or better", that means that at best, you're as good as this guy, so clearly your English expertise must be equally bad as well.

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 is a PSX fighting game based on, well, Dragon Ball Z, released in 1995 in Japan and in 1996 in Europe, then spent several years waiting until it was released in the US in 2003. The game is widely considered terrible. Despite that, I personally like it (it's a game I've owned since childhood) and it has good music. The game lacks a real Arcade mode, but the default Player vs. AI mode works somewhat like an Arcade Mode. When you select a character, you will fight all 22 playable characters (including the player's character) in a random sequence, with a few boss characters interspersed as well as a few bosses at the end, leading to 27 fights total. The combo system is a bit limited - the game itself doesn't truly acknowledge combo's, although they do exist (like the original Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior). It is possible to juggle off certain moves, but the juggles themselves are somewhat limited and don't allow for more than a few hits until the opponent falls down in an intangible state. Other than that, it's generally possible to combo a few basic moves into each other, and combo them into specials. So, over the past few days I've been working on a TAS of a few fights in this game, to see what it would end up looking like. Link to video I used Captain Giryu, because his Body Change ability allows me to fight using the opponent characters - this way, I can control every character in the game in one run. It's like Twelve from Street Fighter 3, except Body Change can be pulled off at will (provided the AI allows to land it) and there aren't any other restrictions.

Because Wire costs over 20 seconds to get, plus the time spent fighting Crash Man. Wire isn't going to make up for 20 seconds of time lost obtaining it. Also, I don't have a fast way for dealing with Dust Man without Rush Cannon or another weakness weapon. (I don't exactly know how fast Hell Wheel is on him, but I'm fairly sure there are faster options out there).

Bright Man done. Yay for fitting F-Zero X music. Also yay for Rush Cannon (although it's slower than HCR on Bright Man himself). Judging from a little bit of testing, Wire isn't as useful as I thought it'd be. There aren't many (if any) places where it's useful to save even a slight bit of time. Link to video .fm2

Oh, and also not to forget, I found out about a small zip in the Wire path of Drill Man's stage, skipping the (second) digger miniboss. Link to video Haven't found use of it outside of this particular area yet, though.

How would having fought Bright Man third be faster? I didn't see any areas where pausing time would have been worth switching away from Hell Wheel.
Bright Man doesn't really require any tools to go through (except possibly Wire but even the time saved there is a few seconds at best, and getting Wire in Drill's stage costs at least 20 seconds). His weakness is HCR Boomerang (rings), which I have, so I can finish him off quickly. Then I get Rush Cannon, which is all I need for Dive Man's stage (beside Hell Wheel) where I can get the very useful Water Cutter weapon, which also saves time in Drill Man's stage on the miniboss.

Next up, Drill Man. On hindsight, I probably should have done Bright Man third. I didn't get the Wire because it takes over 20 seconds to get it (excluding the Crash Man minibossfight), and I don't see it making up for that time anywhere in the Robot Master stages. Link to video .FM2

Do you know what source code is and how to compile it into an executable?

You guys will give a hundred yes votes so enthusiastically to any given Castlevania game but immediately dismiss this as boring? Has anyone here that voted no actually watched a classic Castlevania run on here?
At least the original Castlevania actually looked anywhere near decent.

Yeah, I underestimated the sounds of the music made in the Famicom version of Castlevania 2. (I was aware of the music upgrade for Castlevania 3, but not for 2, nor did I know its music well enough). Still sounds horribly inconsistent though.
