There is no rerecording version of snes9x 1.42. The emulator version used for the TAS is listed in the run's submission comments. You need to use the same emulator version that the run was made on to playback the movie. The version you are looking for is SNES9x-rr 1.43 v9 (also known as snes9xw-improvement9), which can be downloaded here.

I have yet to see an imgur image removed. Same with imageshack, actually. I've seen a lot of photobucket images removed though.
There are several users with removed imageshack images as avatars currently, which as of fairly recently cause the above 200x200 "Click and discover Imageshack" image to appear. Inzult's avatar above is one example; others that currently are broken include nitsuja, theenglishman, Pasky13, Dragonfangs, AngerFist, and many others. I'll have a deeper look at this later, and will look into removing (or restoring in some cases) deleted imageshack avatars. EDIT: I've restored some of the above users' avatars now. EDIT2: And a load more.

Second WIP, clearing world 2 (out of 8 worlds total, each with 3 stages): Link to video User movie #17762066519815461 For extra fun, stages 2-2 and 2-3 are both pretty much glitched through for about 2/3rds of the stages. The bossfights are pretty interesting. The 2-2 fight (RedVegiemon) is very short, as I can immediately abuse the projectiles the boss fires with a glitch to pretty much damage him constantly. The 2-3 fight (Wormmon) on the other hand is very long; it is the only boss that has no projectile attack, so I can't glitch it for rapid damage, and it also is one of only two bosses that have 128 frames of invincibility per hit instead of the usual 48. On the upside, it does have some pretty good boss music going for it. Also, I decided to hex in selecting another character (Veemon) for the encode, simply because I can. The characters are that identical, and it doesn't even cost time to select other characters.

Can you clip through more walls?
The ability to clip through walls depends on being close enough to the right edge of the screen, which is only possible in horizontally scrolling rooms, and even then takes some time before I reach the edge of the screen. So I can't clip through things like the grey floor/walls at the start of the room at 0:20 in the encode, as there's no way to reach the right edge of the screen there. I could've clipped through the green wall there, but then the enemy there would hit me, and I'd have to add extra time to go high enough as well as move Zook back to the left in order to let the screen scroll as far to the right as possible before taking the ladder. If the camera isn't aligned properly when climbing an upwards ladder, the game crashes and resets. (See also the Rockman DX3 submission's Tricks section; most of that info applies to this game as well). It's also possible to clip through the wall at 0:47 in the encode, but that would've left me standing on the ceiling in the next room, and if far enough to the right, get stuck inside the ceiling. Basically, I've done as much clipping as possible in this stage except where it would cost time. Yes, it can be pretty complicated :)

WIP 1: Link to video User movie #17740013252806793 This stage is pretty short but quite annoying in stage design and enemy layout, which both get in the way a lot while I'm trying to move around in both conventional and unconventional ways. Note that I intentionally take damage near the end, as this for some reason skips a part of the capsule entry animation. Saves about 100 frames.

The length of the run wouldn't be an issue. There's no limit as to how long/short a run must be to be accepted on the site. A thing you probably should be more concerned about is this Vault rule, which forbids games like this to the Vault:
Wiki: Vault wrote:
  • If a game consists of presenting a story, with little to no user creativity altering the game in any way, then it is unacceptable.
    • This includes games which are overwhelmingly made up of cut scenes, with little to no user interaction anywhere.
      • For example, Super Adventure Rockman.
    • Games which are of a Choose Your Own Adventure story book variety, where the user has no creative control beyond choosing between predefined choices.
EDIT: And there's also this rule:
Wiki: Vault wrote:
  • The gameplay still needs to standout from non-assisted play.
    • Example of a (mini)game which does not is Desert Bus.

According to Vault rules, game show games are not eligible, and thus, to be published on this site, a run like this should do something more special to entertain the audience (see: Family Feud). Just filling in the answers as fast and correct as possible doesn't cut it.

A recent update from a bootleg ROM dumping site included a few new bootleg ROM dumps by bootleg game publisher Li Cheng. Among the latest batch of dumped games was Zook Hero Z, the predecessor game to Rockman DX3/Zook Hero 2, and one of the earlier games developed by Vast Fame. (Note that Li Cheng released it as "洛克人DX6, or "Rockman DX6" in Chinese, but the game is still widely known as either "Zook Hero Z" or "Zook Z"). Zook Hero 2 has had a few dumps, but Zook Hero Z had no released and working ROM dump until recently. As with other Vast Fame games, it is a legitimately decent game and has a pretty good soundtrack. (More information about the game itself here). From what I've gathered from a brief testing session with the game, gameplay is functionally practically identical to Zook Hero 2, down to having the exact same movement tricks that made the "all stages" run of the latter game so much fun. I'll be doing some more testing with this game later. EDIT: After a day of testing, this is the route I devised. As with Rockman DX3, the bosses don't have any actual names, so in my notes they're just named after their basic element or defining feature. From left to right/top to bottom, the bosses in order are, as I call them, Cannon, Earth, Ice, Grass, Water and Fire. EDIT2: Fixed route as per this post
  1. Cannon ~ Foot Upgrade
  2. Earth ~ Boss
  3. Water ~ Hand Upgrade
  4. Grass ~ Boss
  5. Water ~ Boss
  6. Fortress 1
  7. Fortress 2
  8. Fortress 3
  9. Cannon ~ Boss
  10. Earth ~ Head Upgrade
  11. Fire ~ Body Upgrade
  12. Ice ~ Boss
  13. Fire ~ Boss
  14. Fortress 4
  15. Fortress 5
  16. Fortress 6
  17. Fortress 7
  18. Fortress 8
  19. Fortress 9
Yes, the game has a total of 9 fortress stages. You automatically enter the first three after defeating three bosses. Then, after defeating six bosses and collecting all four upgrades, you automatically enter the final six fortress stages. Some routing notes:
  • The Foot Upgrade is supposed to be obtained in Cannon's stage by using the Grass weapon, but it is possible to abuse movement to go past the camera and out of bounds exactly as in the Rockman DX3 run. I get the Foot Upgrade first because it has no other prerequisites and it can save some frames in movement.
  • The most important thing in the route is the Hand upgrade, which allows charging Zook's weapons for extra damage. Using a charged shot of a weapon a boss is weak to allows one to do 4 damage per hit and defeat them in 4 hits as a result, which is a major timesaver. (To compare: regular weapon shots do 1 damage, charged regular weapon shots do 2, or 3 with the Arm upgrade; most boss weapons do 2 damage, 3 when charged, and do one point extra if it's the boss' weakness.)
  • Speaking of which - this game has actual weaknesses for bosses, unlike Rockman DX3. However, of the 9 bosses that count as main bosses that have weaknesses (the six main Robot Masters, and the Fortress bosses in Fortress 4, 5 and 6), 6 of them are weak to Water, 2 to Grass and one to Fire. The other weapons have no bosses that are weak to them, and sub-bosses (any in-stage minibosses, and all Fortress bosses except the aforementioned ones) have no weakness weapons.
  • The Earth weapon is needed to destroy a block to access the Hand upgrade, and due to how the stage is laid out, this cannot be bypassed. Thus, Earth is fought first to the Hand upgrade can be obtained thereafter.
  • Next up, we need a weapon that bosses are actually weak to, and a weapon to effectively defeat sub-bosses for the Fortress stage. The best weapon against sub-bosses is charged Ice (actually charged Grass, but it consumes just a bit too much ammo to defeat a 50-HP miniboss without running out). Ice is, for some reason, weak to Water, so Water is done first and Ice next. (Annoyingly, this means the Water stage is done twice in succession, which might come across as boring or repetitive. Oh well, can't really help it here.)
  • After the three Fortress stages, we have 3 bosses left to defeat: Fire, Grass and Cannon. Cannon is weak to Grass and Grass is weak to Fire, so there's only one optimal order to use boss weapons on them. The two remaining upgrades, which do not really have much benefit in the stages, are pretty much interspersed between the boss-fighting stage runs. The only rule is to end with a boss last, as with all bosses defeated but not having collected all upgrades, a small cutscene appears with Dr. Steve telling Zook to get all the upgrades, which costs a small bit of time. Aside of that, of note is that the Head Upgrade should require the Cannon, but which can be bypassed, and the Body upgrade requires Ice which cannot be bypassed - however, I already have Ice by that point anyway.
  • The remaining Fortress stages follow. Note that the three Fortress bosses in 4, 5 and 6 are all weak to Water. Apparently water bubbles are very deadly weapons.
  • Fortress 8 is of note as it contains the traditional boss rush. (A cutscene with Dr. Steve actually explains this, stating that Dr. Mitt "repaired his robots").
  • Fortress 9 contains a two-phase final boss, and defeating it triggers a cutscene that signifies the game as completed.

Did you try turning off Advanced Bus-Level Timing in the emulation settings? I tried it out with the latest version, and the run syncs for me. (EDIT: or not - it desynced at Tallon Overworld for me.) However, it doesn't really make any difference with this game anyway - practically everything in the game is 2D backgrounds and sprites that are unaffected by the improved resolution. It just looks like the original resolution point-upscaled.

Another bootleg/unlicensed game. This one, however, is developed by Vast Fame (of Zook Z and Rockman DX3 fame), which means that it is actually a pretty decent game. It's a fairly simplistic platform game, with basic walking, jumping (pretty high), the ability to fire a projectile and jump on enemies à la Mario, and the ability to temporarily Digivolve into a larger, fully invincible Digimon. The game has 8 worlds, each with three rather long stages, and with the last two stages of each world also having a boss. You can play as one of three Digimon: Agumon, Veemon and Guilmon, the respective partners of the main protagonists Tai/Taichi, Davis/Daisuke and Takato of Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon Tamers respectively. Each of them are completely identical aside from having different sprites and their attacks having different sprites (Agumon and Guilmon fire fireballs, Veemon a V-shaped projectile). In fact, it's possible to hex edit one input at the start of the run to change the selected character (without costing any time), and the run will still sync just the same. So character selection is really just preference. The stages are filled with all kinds of random Digimon as enemies, bottomless pits, as well as a surprising amount of spikes like it's a Capcom game. Defeating an enemy (by either jumping on top of them or hitting them with fireballs/projectiles) has them drop pickups, which vary from all kinds of fruits of varying sizes which give a varying amount of points, as well as pickups to restore HP and energy, and 1UPs. (With regards to HP: you start with 5 hit points on each stage, and any hit, including spikes, will deplete 1 hit point and grant invincibility for quite a few seconds. Energy is used to Digivolve, and is obtained by defeating enemies and collecting D-3 Digivice pickups. Another interesting "feature" is the game's absolutely terrible and hilarious Engrish with boss dialogue before fighting every boss. Said text also scrolls ridiculously slowly, probably giving the viewer far more than enough reading time. I found a few tricks to make clearing stages faster, and defeating bosses faster. One is where jumping one or two frames (depending on the jump) after firing a projectile in midair makes it possible to double jump, which allows for quite a few shortcuts. Another trick is an invincibility trick on bosses, where damaging a boss on the right frame when they're creating an object does some odd things with how damaging them works, including making it possible to damage them by hitting the object, and ignoring their invincibility. Most boss battles come down to waiting until their (fixed) attack pattern has them spawn an object, then defeat them very quickly after that. Lastly, it's actually fastest to, as soon as the game considers the stage "cleared", reset the game and pick Continue from the main menu in order to enter the next stage. (The only known ROM dump of the game, which I use here, triggers the credits at the end of every stage, which reset the game after clearing them anyway but which takes extra time). tl;dr: fun game. I made a WIP of the first world here: Link to video User movie #17644344494964933

This seems to be an issue with how DeSmuME handles save files. A workaround is to save and load a state at any point in the run before that happens. Even just save/loadstating at frame 0 fixes it.

I did a closer check at the stage designs again, and it looks like the gap between the screen is actually 'only' 48 pixels, as opposed to the 64 pixels I assumed earlier. Looking at the central rail in Tallon Overworld (with 48 pixels between the screens here):

I haven't really kept track on how much time everything took exactly. Pirate Frigate was actually not that hard with the multi-balling, as most of the time the balls aren't even touching solid floors/walls at the same time. Artifact Temple took quite a long time to get right, though, especially in the first part where the 6 balls first appear.

Thanks for the nice words. You've really helped me to keep motivated while I made this run :)

I really didn't understand at all how Ridley went down = pretty antiqlimatic :D
Meta Ridley isn't really a boss, he's more of a stage hazard. He just kind of buggers off when the Artifact Temple mission is completed.

Clear yes vote and let us hope you will pick another more challenging Metroid game :)
Lol, as if this game wasn't challenging :P This is actually one of my longer runs, in terms of how much time I spent on it.

Very confusing to someone who has never played the game (would have expected to get some artifacts from Magmoor Caverns for sure) but the confusion did what is usually does in such runs and just makes it more funny.
There is actually a Magmoor Caverns table in the game, although it's exclusive for multiplayer. (The game has only seven tables in total; the six singleplayer ones and one multiplayer one).

Publishers select the final screenshots, and if they don't publish screenshots that take place after the movie, then why should they suddenly start doing it now, especially for a case as small and unimportant as this one?
Why not? It's uncommon, as generally in most runs there are not a lot of interesting points post-game completion or even post-input, but I fail to see a reason why to refuse picking screenshots from after input if there is good screenshot material in there.

We, meaning the publishers and all of us who like to follow site rules and guidelines instead of constantly vying for exceptions. Why have rules if you can make an exception for everything?
CoolKirby wrote:
But it's not from the movie itself and it conflicts with the guidelines I listed, so it shouldn't be used for publication.
There is no rule for picking screenshots within movie input range, and even the guidelines you quoted and linked to do not state anything about this. You cannot break a rule or guideline if it does not exist. And yes, you can make exceptions to guidelines if you can find interesting screenshots in other ways. They're just guidelines, there is no strict requirement to follow them.

Yeah, I also agree with the suggestion of the "Ho! This is geting even better!" screenshot.

Pssh, walking through the TV before winning is passé. Taking a single step towards the window before declaring that you win is the new thing.
