Hmm too bad... I played recently "Brutal Mario World" with a lot of changes and even custom Boss Fights etc. Or... Those freaking Mario Hacks which a normal person could NEVER beat xD Like the ones AzureBlade49 is playing on yt with savestates etc. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT7NBDWcc6s Just awesome xD I really would like to see a TAS of such games and how they are destroyed ^_^
YouTube is a good source of random SMW hack TASes. Here are two channels you might want to check out: http://www.youtube.com/user/dainegai http://www.youtube.com/user/lightblueyoshi Also, if you haven't already seen them, the two Kaizo hacks have been done: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6483&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20

Awesome improvements, but I still dearly miss Phil and Genisto's old 5-1. :( Regardless, easy yes vote.

Just so people know, me and Baxter went ahead with (2). The two restrictions we decided to follow are: -No warping of any kind (be it left+right warping or warping to 1-1.) -No 1/1ing. We believe the inclusion of these two restrictions will ultimately produce a more entertaining run overall. The run is now actively being worked on and we'll release a WIP once 1-4 is complete.

Fluttering underneath the floor in Yoshi's Island: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/435115963/4-8.smv Somewhat reminiscent of flying underneath the floor in its predecessor, but a lot slower and completely useless. :)

Well I'm no expert and I very much doubt I could keep up with standard shown in Mr's WIP. I've also been, until recently, slacking on another big project I'm supposed to be working on. However, I'll still remain an active viewer and will try to help by offering ideas and suggestions where possible (if possible).

As for the first moving block thing, something like this works. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/488286617/castle3.smv Getting to run on the ledge before the first moving block would be great, but I wasn't able to do it.

How about a new option, one that makes a bit more sense (to me at least): - Don't use 1/1 at all, UNLESS it happens to save time that ISN'T related to frame shaving simply by having Yoshi run a tiny bit faster. To clarify, 1/1 can be used to save a few frames per level, maybe, purely from a tiny bit of increased speed. In this new option I have created, this will not be used. However, if 1/1 can be used to save time some other way (like getting to a floating platform earlier or spawning things in a more favorable way) and the frames saved come from better manipulation, then the trick SHOULD be used. Of course, this may never be the case the entire run, but I think it's something to consider. Anyone agree?
The trick only speeds up Yoshi by a small amount, so I can't really imagine it making much of a difference at all for the types of situations you mentioned. I also think it'd be pretty silly to use the trick solely in these scenarios and it definitely wouldn't help to create unambiguous goals/stipulations for the run.

This could work. I believe that 1/1 can be used with Baby Mario to run at the speed that you jump off slopes, which is very significant; it can probably also be used to preserve faster than normal speed, like when jumping off of platforms that zip to the left/right very fast.
Unfortunately, neither is possible.

We (me and Baxter) have the very first part of 1-1 done using the (1) rules. There's little room for showing off, so it isn't the greatest example of why it is less entertaining than (2). But for anybody who's interested it enters the first pipe 61 frames sooner than spezzafer's old WIP. Click me! In favour of (2): The right smv The first section of 1-4 in particular shows the random egg shots/tricks that we can get away with without 1/1, opposed to just running down the corridor.

So I took another shot at the fight and I don't think I can improve it any more. I tried employing the same tactic that I used with the 3rd and 4th eggs with the 5th and 6th, but there wasn't enough time for it to be worth it. Delaying the 5th as much as possible would also likely end up being slower than just firing it right away. So... no changes needed. :)

This run has been bugging me for the last few days now... I think the final boss can be improved even more, but I'm not certain. I'll test it out tomorrow. Thanks for all the feedback so far and thanks Naohiro19 for the encode!

What hack is this? I searched on google and the closest I could find was this, which apparently ends when you get the screw attack, as mentioned in your previous submission.

OK, seeing as I have no intention of making a non-glitched any% run for this game, I may as well post this here. It's a series of shortcuts in 6-6 which virtually skip the entire level. smv The shortcuts were not found by me; I received a private message one day from a user on this site named Romi, who showed me them. This test, however, was made by me. As for optimisation, it's pretty poor compared to current standards, but the smv does its job in demonstrating the tricks. Maybe somebody will take up the run one day? Assuming it's still a valid category...

Maybe he meant Flower Fear (I think that's its name), which is this game's equivalent, whose secret exit can be found by going on a platform hidden underneath the floor near the first door. Right? :S As for the 8 frames thing, I think you should try to improve that before continuing, as my test is certainly improvable.

I was considering working on this at one point as I think it's a hack well-suited for TASing. However, I never really took the idea seriously. Anyway, I made a quick test of mole ruins 1 today, which shows a few time savers which may help you. Looking back, it may be a good idea to start 6/5ing after Mario gets up to running speed the 2nd time (after the first climb) so he can quickly begin running again after the 2nd climb. EDIT: And maybe before the first climb too, meaning you can wall jump up instead of taking the purple triangle and begin running before the chuck. Good luck with the run, I look forward to your future WIPs. :)

That sound glitch is pretty damn awesome. My picture is actually from a glitched-up Yoshi in a giant empty room. :P I found that most of them can be accessed from the left, right, left warp on the level select screen, after being in different 'rooms' in levels. I can't find any smvs, but I thought this was pretty funny too.

In short, I’ve not done any more of this run. Exams and other interests have gotten in the way but recently my motivation for TASing has been rekindled. However, I’ve decided to complete a different, shorter run before I go ahead with this. I daresay it shouldn’t take too long to finish now that I have some extra free time. That isn’t to say this game has been completely neglected. New discoveries have been made and the game’s mechanics are understood better now. There are a few other things I’d like opinions on, but they can be sorted out later. I'll get around to it eventually, honestly. :P

I noticed you run up/down slopes quite a lot instead of jumping. Does that not slow you down in this game? It does in the SNES game.

If this is a 100% run, why didn't you collect the baby coin inside the pipe after the checkpoint ring? Apart from that, it looks great! Keep going!

Thanks for all the feedback so far! Before I start playing my way through world 6, can anybody here confirm that the start+select trick on Bowser does indeed work? Edit: No worries, it does. Thanks Romi! :)

We've had to go back and redo most of Castle Crush due to more improvements, but we're almost done with this damn level now. The run itself should definitely be finished sometime this month.

Ok, so I'm considering taking on the 100% run after finishing DKC2. One problem I was hoping to sort out here is the route. The current idea is to complete all the levels normally, use spezzafer's start and select trick to exit out of the Bowser fight, complete all the extra levels, and finally redo Bowser's Castle for the credits. This is the best I could come up with, anyway. If anybody has any better ideas, I'd love to hear them. I made a test of 1-1, a while ago, which was roughly 120 frames faster than spezzafer's discontinued WIP. Oh, and if anybody's interested, I was also working on an any% (non-warp) improvement, but stopped due to a certain trick wasting time.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that trick was included in spezzafer's 100% WIP. Nice job finding it anyway. There's actually a lot of new stuff in this game which makes its current run quite outdated.

Doesn't the FOOT WING make you go faster slightly? Or does it waste too much time to collect?
