Always been kind of disappointed that this wasn't a licensed game based on the old Super Chicken cartoon that was part of the George of the Jungle show. Honestly, it wouldn't've even been the most obscure thing to ever get an NES game made for it. Link to video

It's good to know that one of the great constants of the universe is "Double Dragon's back-elbow attack is stupid OP."

F**K YEAH POOH BEAR 4 LYFE MOON TIER OR RIOT F**K YOU, FIGHT ME (j/k, this game puts me to sleep. No for entertainment, but a good Vaulter to show the importance of knowing all the rules - especially the unwritten ones - to properly manipulate a video-board-game. The overworld and credits musics are cute, tho.)

The character page at Popeye the Sailorpedia explains the whole Bluto/Brutus thing. Long story short: when they were ramping up to make TV-grade Popeye shorts in 1960, they had only acquired the rights to do so from King Features, license holder for the original comic strip, Thimble Theatre. A collective brainfart resulted in nobody being able to remember whether Bluto was originally part of the comic strip or created specifically by the Fleischers for Paramount's theatrical shorts, so they hedged their bets and invented Brutus as a substitute Bluto. Though this turned out to be unnecessary, it did create a simple and quick way to determine whether you were about to watch a really good cartoon, or a mediocre-to-crappy one.

It's actually a little odd watching this game without the interlacing Midway used to render a higher resolution than their monitors would strictly allow.

I'd say something about how Japan's been sitting on Super River City Ransom all these years, but I kind of doubt '90's gamer-kids were quite prepared to have half of their playable characters ganked from the roster by a trigger-happy mob boss. Yeah, there was SO MUCH PLOT at the outset, but the leaping curb-stomps make up for it, along with the bits on the freeway where you trick an enemy into going for the attack just as a turn comes up. Yes Get.

I'm guessing that entire tree behind him is filled with Red Bull as well, because there's no way just 3 cans could accomplish that. Voting Chuckles. (j/k, totally voting Knuckles) Link to video

(is it just me or are the boss enemies really boring? I mean they are well TAS'ed, of course, but compared to the boss design of TLoZ they just don't look so impressive)
I'll just come out and say it -- this game has a Reused Boss problem on par with DK64. How many times did zoboner need to re-fight that dragon thing?

Because the submission page automatically reads that number from the TAS file.

Speaking of everything I hate about modern FPS games, that point where the TAS takes a moment to teabag a gunned-down guard was magnificent. "From one robot to another? YOU SUCK."

That's a fair summary of what Resident Evil gameplay looks like, when you can just reliably slip past all the zombie encounters and you don't have to actually stop to think about the puzzles.

I didn't know that lizard-wizards could get hairballs, because Ripto sure looked like he was trying to hoerf one up.

I dunno, Boct. I just used the newest Gens I have on hand (11b, I'm a little behind the times) and it synced up fine. (None of the versions of the ROM I have in my Good set are titled "Mickey Mouse - Fantasia", though.) As for the run itself ... it mostly served to remind me of the feeling of sadness and disappointment that accompanied actually playing the game back when it was new. Though I must give props to those long bounce chains, because the one thing I do remember about this game was how super-awkward it was to just move around.

Obviously they misnamed the game. In keeping with the series theme, it should be Alex Kidd in NO INDOOR VOICE WORLD.

Sweet Zarquon, that first boss. I know Snorlax is supposed to be tanky, but HOLY DAMN IT'S THE BOSS FIGHT THAT NEVER ENDS.
