Another update: I really enjoyed the spider boss, and watching it at full speed is amazing. The underwater stage was a pain in the ass, the controls are horrible and sluggish, you cannot move diagonally you must thrust forward and then move down, eithers either or and the collision detection is just plain horrible. A lot of the times it will look like I can sqeeuze through but infact I will get hit and that is not an option since im going for no damage. 2 more stages completed. The stage with the lasers was very challenging, fun and frustrating all at the same time, I spent a good 3 hours on the last 2 laser rooms trying different ways to get past the lasers before they turned on. It turned out really well. http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/Super_Turrican_Pasky_WIP6.zip

Stage 1-3 and 1-4 completed, I got bored :P. http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/Super_Turrican_Pasky_WIP4.zip I was very satisfied with the results of stage 1-3, I had to use the smart bomb near the end to save time as no matter what I tried, I could not beat the gasses when ascending. Stage 1-4 was very boring, its a auto scrolling stage and the scroll cannot be manipulated, add the fact that there isn't much I can do to kill time as I can't grapple to the giant worms and there just really aren't any tricks to perform so I did the next best thing and just kept moving. http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/Super_Turrican_Pasky_WIP4.zip

I did my best as far as the grappling went, there is probably more frames to be squeezed out and I will get around to optimizing those. As far as jumping down pits, the game has horrible collision detection that is in favor of most of the enemies, jump down doesn't really save time over actually falling off the ledge as there isn't much gravity to the game either, not to mention that the way I dropped off most of the ledges went very well with manipulating shots and enemies.

More optimizations made, made a couple minor ones in the first stage, like keeping 3 smart bombs for the boss. Stage 2 has numerous improvements as I had to change my route slightly due to the first gem being way out of my original one. Im very content that I decided to go ahead with collecting all the gems, that second stage 1st gem sold me after watching it replayed at normal speed. More optimizations made when I found out I could actually use the grappling hook to grab the items through the floor, extremely helpful in stage 2 when im getting the gems, saved me a good amount of time. Also discovered that paralyzing beam is essential for getting the item capsules to drop items much more quickly rather than shooting it 2 consecutive times for one item with a weapon. Also discovered that getting 4 of one item, not 3 is a fully powered up weapon, could be even 5, havn't tested yet. I stop on my way down to collect another rebound power up as this speeds up the boss fight tremendously. Stopped a bit at one point to collect an extra smart bomb, added about 1/2 a second for the gain it gives at the boss. Changed my strategy entirely on the second stage boss, now with the stronger rebound and extra smart bomb I could knock both his arms off much faster, which puts him in his sitting duck position where he just stomps up and down so I don't have to jump across the screen avoiding his hands. WIP 3: http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/Super_Turrican_Pasky_WIP3.zip I think im done for tonight. Will continue tomorrow, still eager to hear comments.

Okay, I found one of them and it was well hidden, I ran around the stage with Background layer #1 and stumbled upon it hidden behind this wall and you must turn into a ball to reach it, very sneaky: http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snes9x20060401213328706jm.jpg One of the elusive gems: http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snes9x20060401213330004uv.jpg I have searched throughout the entire stage with layer #1 disabled and cannot find the last gem. Desperately need someone who has played this game thouroughly to give me a hand. I have already made several optimizations for stage 2 and even saved some time in the first stage again. Thanks.

Had the exact same issue and changing to FMOD DirectSound fixed it also. I have a X-FI Xtreme music if it matters.

Going to revive this topic in hope that there is still interest in making a run as this is one of my favorite NES games.

I have a feeling these two are invisble like a power up capsule I stumbled upon. I've spent a good hour searching for this, anyone have any idea? Thanks.

Made a lot of optimizations and I got the first level just the way I want it, I decided on continuing with collecting all gems for each stage as it really is pleasing to watch, the game is very fast paced and reaching all the ledges with the bionic commando type moves being done is pretty nifty. However, stage 2 really has me dumb founded as I can't find those last 2 gems in the stage and don't believe I missed any, im thinking a secret area? Can someone give me a hand with this one? I have searched the 2nd stage up and down cannot find these two. There are no FAQs at gamefaqs so hopefully someone who knows this game can help me find their location, thanks. WIP 2: http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/Super_Turrican_Pasky_WIP2.zip Thanks.

Been playing around with this game today and did a 2 stage run on hard mode. My initial intention was to collect all the gems for every stage. I know this would add time at the end of the stage when they are tallied, but im biased towards 100% complete runs, however im going to decide to nix this idea as it seems they are spreadout in odd areas as I learned in stage 2. I did a test run and the game is very tough to manipulate while trying not to stop progressing and is a very fun challenge. I was trying to make it as interesting and entertaining as possible, the game is very tough on hard mode when played normally, watching it being breezed through is stunning IMO. US VERSION (Going for no damage): http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/Super_Turrican_2_Pasky_WIP_1.zip Comments and suggestions from anyone who has played this game very much? Im going to do some more research on the weapons. I didn't even know you could do that ball dash until I did it by accident at stage 2, hah!

This is one of my top 5 games in my book, i'd love to see a speed run of it and im also hoping someone can revive this. I've beaten it over 20 times but don't feel I could do a good enough job doing a speed run. I have enough trouble getting that stupid sword of kings when I actually want it as it is =/. For anyone who cares, Mother 3 is being released the 20th of this month :). EDIT: Whoops, thought it was April already, April 20th is Mother 3's release date.

http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/SG_Pasky_WIP_2.zip Made a few improvements in stage 1 and defeated the third stage boss. I know there is plenty to improve on the third boss.

Well, let me go ahead and go through it normally like I planned, at least it would be a good starting point for improving as like I said before, I don't know the game inside and out, I just remember playing it at a friends house quite often and finally beat it after god knows how long. Let me get something to work with going first.

I understood your criticism. However, it was this line: "No power-ups" usually sounds to me like "I didn't want to have to think too much, so I decided to artificially simplify the game for myself and call it a special run category." That seemed more of a personal blow rather than constructive criticism. I find the game highly amusing watching normally but that may be just me since I know the difficulty of this game personally. Either way, no hard feeling i'll move on to another project. For one, I had no idea this was being done already.

Well, its obvious no one wants this to be done, I don't understand the logic of some of the users on this site sometimes, this isn't the first time i've seen a run get shot down either. You'd think any contributions would be welcomed as long as the effort was seen but this is obviously not the case, I suppose I should find a different game to work on. Good luck on your run FODA.
