Be ready to put http://tasvideos.org/2504M.html (Pokemon Gold any% map distortion route by bobmario) on such a list whenever it gets obsoleted by a coin case arbitrary execution glitched route (which it will, and which won't be as colour-spasmaglorious)

Do any TASes of this game exist? The mechanics are simple - it's a shmup with two colours of enemies, bullets and your ship can flip from white (absorb white projectiles, fires white bullets that deal double damage to black enemies) and black (the opposite) as you please. Also when absorbing bullets, you fill up a gauge that can be depleted to fire powerful homing shots of your current colour at nearby enemies. The main categories that would be most interesting as a TAS are: 2p, Hard, maximum score 2p, Hard, dot eater (a special rank for killing no enemies. The main draw to this category is timing out the 3rd stage of the chapter 5 boss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC_m0FKZ5nc#t=4m05s ) What makes maximum score interesting in this game is the scoring system - you increment a 'chain' by killing three enemies of the same colour. Consecutive 'chain's give you doubling points - 100, 200, 400, 800... until 25,600, where it stays (9th and beyond chains). If you kill a wrong coloured enemy by mistake, you have to start again from chain 0. Many of the levels have a section which will spawn more enemies the more you can kill them, so the potential for increasing your chain higher is always there. Plus, you gain points whenever you absorb enemy fighter, so mopping up enemy fire and letting enemies stick around instead of blowing them up immediately is incentivized. I think that for TAS, having the second player around to absorb bullets the first player is out of position to absorb, and to get some extra chains that would require player 1 to move fast, will make up for the disadvantage of having to increment two chains to chain 9 not just one and allow for a combined higher score than a 1p TAS would. What makes hard, dot eater interesting is that it has never been done deathless to my knowledge. Doing a 2p TAS of this on top of it could let you play around with two strategies at once - one ship doing ridiculously dangerous dodges, the other ship showing lazy, safe strats and how to move as little as possible. (That is, unless you want to make it a maximum score dot eater - then both ships have to wipe up every bullet in existence!) There are a lot of excellent real time play videos of this game - just go on youtube, search for ikaruga and you'll see 1p high scores, one guy who can do 2 players by himself, dot eater playthroughs, etc. The standard of play for RTA in this game is extremely high. I will keep track of leaderboards in this post: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=366417#366417

If you want to know more about the glitchy mess that is S3&K, check out ORKAL's series: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL01596721403E0594 In particular, watch from here to the end for the best stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z1o6_fqGJE&list=PL01596721403E0594&index=16 (BTW, it might be possible to get total control on Sega Saturn before Sega Genesis - see http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=396&start=340 and investigate if Swap Overflow Shenanigans can be performed in Saturn Symphony of the Night after doing Super Matrix Stats Glitch and getting the glitch items, and then see if there are any useful pointers to modify nearby after inventory, like there are in PS1)

It would be difficult to destroy the semblance of gameplay left any further at this point. Who knew that practice really does make perfect? (Yes vote)

I think it's been brought up before, but how hard would it be to implement connecting/disconnecting a controller mid-TAS, in particular in SNES? It's needed for a big skip in Secret of Mana (you bring up a textbox with controller 3, disconnect controller 3, and now controllers 1/2 can go through the rest of the town without triggering an event that would normally prevent progress, because the textbox being open prevents it) EDIT: Nevermind, it was already discussed here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14330 and I see the situation is still the same as it was then (In particular, someone would have to convince byuu it's worth writing into the emulator XD)

So, why hasn't this been uploaded to nicovideo yet? Bitrate restrictions can't handle the epicness that is 1000 elves all shooting at once? ;)

You're already splitting it by tab, you could just add a new tab.

EDIT: Check out "Obsoletely Fabulous" for a list of such runs: http://tasvideos.org/Movies/ObsoletelyFabulous.html The 21 minute old chrono trigger glitched TAS really deserves to be in gruefood delight ( http://tasvideos.org/1285M.html ), but I'm not sure where you'd put it. Maybe a new category: 'Obsoleted movies with higher entertainment than their obsoletions'? You could even run such a script to see if there are any other such movies.

The PC version. Since it requires mouse it's impossible in hourglass. But, before hourglass even existed, Worms Armeggedon had TAS tools made for it. Read through this topic: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5736&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

BTW, if you can manipulate RNG by spamming different button combinations during downtime, you could make a bot to find perfect fights: 1) Start with a savestate at the earliest point when RNG manipulation is possible. 2) Do random button mashing. 3) Do the input for the fastest possible fight. 4) If the opponent's HP hit 0 when you expect it to (read memory), save a savestate and go back to 1). Else, load savestate and try a different random button mashing.

This might be the only fighter game where "uses death to save time" would be an appropriate tag.
Technically, the player doesn't die (except maybe the double-KO). Normally, the move would have caused him to die, except that hitting the opponent at the same time somehow allows him to live just barely.
Yeah, I think he's referring to the double KO.

Actually, for vault only any% and 100% type categories allowed. To have a category like 'pacifist' or 'no damage' or '...' it has to be entertaining enough to be in moons.

A work of art - a case study in terribly programmed mechanics, massive sequence breaks and hilarious boss kills. Yes vote. The TAS description is good, but doesn't actually include the route/a chronological sequence of events. So I took some notes while watching.
So, this is a fighting game, and also a dungeon crawler. Tobal 1 was internationalized but 2 was only released in Japan. You can pick a bunch of characters, but we only pick the one that goes fast. Now for the most important part of the run - shopping. This game has roguelike-style potions, and luck manipulation was used. We want hyper potions but they're expensive, so we buy two cheaper potions and mix them by throwing them at each other. Now you can cancel a rising kick with a dash and do a moonjump that says 'screw you' to collision detection. We're not meant to be in this dungeon yet, but here we are. Actually, we don't want to do this dungeon, so let's moonjump to a different one. If you moonjump to a lower elevation, you're falling so fast you clip through floors. We're in a hurry. Now for a boss fight. Mark drops a capture stone which we use to capture Mark 2. (Did I mention this game is also pokemon?) By the way. we skipped the first six dungeons of the game. Now that we've done the second last dungeon of the game, we can access the last dungeon of the game. And beat up a frog. Clip to the bottom floor of the final dungeon... Now for a final boss fight.

(FWIW, on hyper princess pitch it's really hard to get points because there are zero powerups/bonuses to collect)

What's that shield thing that seems to absorb enemy shots? It was mostly used on the final boss, but I didn't see it explained anywhere in the submission comments.
The piledriver is also called the 'counter'. It puts you in a state of invulnerability (blue flash = blocked shot) and if an enemy comes in reach during this you initiate the 'piledriver'. Probably the TAS description could make it a bit clearer that these two things are the same move.

I just realized one of the branch says "Best ending". Is that the fastest ending? Also, how does the endings for this game get triggered?
To get the best ending: In stage 3, counter the rainbow laser the boss shoots at least once. Now you can go to 'stage X'. At the end of stage X, you learn the galactic princess buster. Now after stage 4, you get an extended ending where you use the galactic princess buster on mecha santa. That's it.
