Yes Sol Emeralds are collected automatically as you go through the game with Blaze, so you just have to finish her story to do her part of unlocking the last story. (As apposed to both finishing the story and clearing the special stages, that Sonic has to do.) And she is unlocked after beating the first boss as Sonic.

I don't think we should concern ourselves with ranks; 100% in Sonic games has always meant getting all the emeralds, AFAICT.
Though that is true, there have never been Ranks to consider in Sonic games here before this one. I would have thought that at the very least S ranks would be needed in 100% to help differenciate from the Any%. Otherwise half of Sonic's levels will be identical. And I would imagine the levels which Special Stages will be entered would be very similar also. Edit; (Off Topic) Just remembered SonicCD also has an 100% definition that is upto debate beyond Emeralds. (The 'Good Future machines' and Metal Sonic Holograms.) Edit 2; Also remembered Sonic Advance 3 technically has an addition to the 100%. You need all 3 Characters as well as all Emeralds. So... has there been anything worth showing off, of the Blaze run or progress on Sonics run?

I also tried Blaze a bit.
Great to hear. I had feared Blaze would just be a slower copy of Sonic's run.

Maybe the best place for Blaze is as part of a 100% TAS though? Or would it be better to put her in a separate movie, or tack it onto the end of an any%?
Whilst Blaze is not effected by the need to get Emeralds in a 100% run, she would presumably still need to get S ranks to fit the 100% requirements? So I would not only use Blaze in the 100%, but have an any% for her too. (Either a seperate submission (even if she has to be unlocked somehow) or added on to the Sonic any%) Regardless having a Blaze run as well as Sonic would be cool.

Could be an option for the New Game+ marzojr expresed intrest in doing one day? It would stop the non emerald gathering stages from the 100% being identical to it at least.

When you die with no lives left, if you continue, do you get to change your character? If so, all 4 characters could be used. 2 characters sharing points would help in reducing 1-ups. Also, I have not decided if this is a terrible suggestion or not.

I upgrade FP each time except after the first Shadow Sirens fight, both times in Glitzville and from Chet Rippo.
The main strat used in the Run is the 'Danger Mario' strat. There are badges that raise Marios Attack damage by one and five, when Marios health is at/below five and one respectivly. (ie when Marios health is in 'Danger' range or 'Peril' range.) The badges stack with each other, and with multiple copies of themselves. So Mario spends the game at 1hp as much as possible, and survives by killing enemies before they can act or performing perfect guards. As for improving the SDA run, manipulation of the 'Mystery' item is a possibilty. (Mystery randomly picks the effects of of a small pool of other items when used in battle.) One such example is a free 'Mystery' in a bush in Petalburg feilds. It can be used as a Shooting Star which easilly kills the Red Bones and her 4 Dry Bones friends soon after picking it up in Hooktail Castle.

I am intrigued... In theory it would be the type of run I would be intrested in. Though obviously, an 100% for RPG would be really huge. What is the route for a 100%?

A 3 player run of this would be amazing.

As all Pokemon can be caught in a single cart for Red/Blue without trading through glitches, you might have to think bigger. Something like a Blue/Gold/Silver/(Crystal) playthrough. ... Or a R/S/E/FR/LG/Colleseum/XD run. (Would you need Pokemon Box and Pokemon Channel in there too for that one?)

Easy Yes. I still would like to see, as others have mentioned, somewhat different goals one day, superplay rather than speedrun so to speak... But this was a great run regardless, and a lesson to me at least, not to dismiss runs based of goals alone.

Locating the items isn't really all that difficult.
That said, this games equvilant of that infinate Koopa Shell Stomping trick could get old very fast... Besides, even if that trick can not be abused in the majority of levels, would pure high scores not be beter in the original SMB? If you are going to run a port, why not highlight its additions? You would not run the GBA version of Yoshi's island and not do the extra levels would you?

Well would it be target scores, or highest possible scores?
It should be noted that on some levels, highest score means skipping red coins. So a 100% run would not be the same as a high score run, unless levels were repeated. High Score run of first 4 Bowser Castles from PersonOnEarth; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU9G-o1Jvqs He has a You vs Boo 1-3 and 2-1 run too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_dp150r7x8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLjA4Uzwizw

So what is a '.lua script', and how do you use them? Specifically I want to be able to run the script nitsuja posted in the Sonic 3 and Knuckles thread. An, addmitably very quick, google search nor a brouse here seems to spell it out for newbies. I am assuming you do not load the file up like you would a movie file in the emulatior, as I can not seem to find a 'script' box to fill in in the emulator menu anywhere. Also just curious as to what 'scripts' actually do? The script above, amongst other things, keeps the players character on screen at all times. Does it do that by temporarly 're-coding' (for lack of a better word, due to not knowing any better) the emulator or the ROM, or is it something else completley?

Would the lawsuit issue not be YouTubes problem too? I can not see them making this offer if problems like this could arise.

Sonic Advance (GBA) Sonic Advance 2 (GBA) Sonic Pinabll Party (GBA) Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (Gamecube) Sonic Adventure DX (Gamecube) They all have shops relating to the Chao. I would google it if you are not familliar with Chao... A minigame basically, a cross between Tamagochi and Pokemon, spread across various games/consoles. Sonic The Hedgehog (Xbox360/PS3) ...Has an actual shop which effects the main gameplay. Though not sure that really counts either as I believe you would have to go out of your way to not have the required money to buy every item as it becomes available. For racing games; Sonic Riders (Gamecube) JakX (PS2) GranTurismo Series (Various) And also... Oddworld; Strangers Wrath (Xbox) Blue Stinger (Gamecube) Gun (PS2/Gamecube/Xbox/Xbox360/PC) Star Fox Adventures (Gamecube) Viewtiful Joe (Gamecube/PS2) Onimusha;Warlords/ Genma Onimusha (PS2/Xbox respectevly) Onimusha 2 Samurai's Destiny (PS2) Onimusha 3: Demon Siege (PS2/PC) Jak3 (PS2) Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II (Gamecube) (For extra levels) Super Paper Mario (Wii) (More platformer than RPG) Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus (PS2) (Do not play this. Though if you have not heared of it not an RPG, despite being FinalFantasy.) Wario Land 4 (GBA) Resident Evil 5 (PS3/Xbox360) Edit; Removed games already mentioned.

I've heard that the firing rate with most weapons is faster when crouched.
I recently saw a video where a player rappidly crouched and un-crouched to increase the firing speed of his pistol. It looked quicker, though it was not tool assisted, and I do not know if it truley has any additional effect or not. (I'd post a link, though forgotton who the video belonged to, meant to save it to post in this topic actually.) Might be something worth testing.

God, I found this TAS exceptionally boring. It pales horribly against dedicated combo videos you can find on websites aimed at them. If you want to see XVSF at its fullest, try wathing the Shidousha No Hyouden video below. There's no comparison. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHQ_eXFI7rM
I made it 3 and half minutes in before quitting... You know, the bit where it cuts to a cartoon ocean. For a video 'dedicated' to combos it sure enjoys its anime and overly long introduction scenes.

So it isn't really that hard to collect the rupees needed, it's the upgrading that takes a long time, like 10 minutes.
Heh, thats an intresting twist on grinding. Yeah as someone who is apparently pretty fanatical about 100% deffinitions, I think I can manage to live with seeing them skiped. I had assumed the tedium would have been on the runners part, by optimizing the monsters killed/rupee drop route when I asked the question. edit;spelling

Just out of curiosity what would the collection of the Rupees for those upgrades consist of? Just killing extra enemies as you go, or abusing some rupee source respawn (Such as smashing that pillar in Wind Waker.)? Looking forward to following this.
