reviving this thread... so I dont know if you heard about the shoot through the roof bug. basicly its done this way
Keen's pogo and jump sprites have slightly different hitbox heights; therefore, if Keen jumps until just before he hits a ceiling, then pogoes, he will occasionally shoot right through the ceiling on top of it. This only works for ceilings one tile thick. (Though it can be seen with all other ceilings, Keen just will not go through the second row of tiles.) This is easier with God mode, but is still difficult to do.

Steps to reproduce:

    * Enable God mode
    * Jump somewhere you'll hit the roof
    * Press pogo right before you hit the roof, it helps to be moving forward
As seen here Well as you can see it SHOULD be possible to do without godmode on but I wasnt able to do so. However, with god mode enabled its a piece of cake. Here is a video demonstration of what it looks like Link to video Would be really great if we managed to pull that off

Well HOW would this work anyway? What would the interface look like? And when do you think we could see some more test movies or an early alpha build?

I had no idea what version of the game you used, since no info was provided.
Reading the diskinfo section from submission file (MD5 and file name): ... The DOS disk is the same f334bc4d5dc5f393feb0ca2d1e1cdc25 as every published DOS run uses.
Thank you very much. I found these by opening the movie file with an text editor. I always wondered: How do you actually display the files of an image the easiest way? Tried via command line but no luck. For now I just have to read through the movie-file...

And thank you too. I found the version you were using and found the files that caused the mismatching md5. Aparently the scores were not clean. Plus the CTLPANEL.CK3 was off, though I have no idea what its even for. I used another original version I had and edited the movie file accordingly. Synced perfectly this time. Again, quick encode. This time from start to end. Link to video On the run: Looked nice but the Boss fight looks improvable. Couldnt you hit the third thing you have to shoot while falling down? Also why do you wait for the arm to come down on you before shooting the 4th? Dont you have enough time to pogo up there?

I had no idea what version of the game you used, since no info was provided. I tried tons of versions I found on the web and my old IBM PC but all of them desynced at the first VortiMom (the one that drops from the ceiling). Finally I found one version that seemed to sync (still had to edit the movie file, since the checksum of the image was wrong). Sadly it desynced at the mountain. Rough encode up to desync Got it to sync

I dont think any normal viewer would be able to play this movie back. First of all it uses a emulator version you would have to build your own (though I dont understand why you used 11.2 in your Spider Man TAS). Also it would be really helpful if you provided info on the images you used. Both, the oe you build from the games folder and the DOS image you used.

Looked really nice. On a completely unrelated note: Im not that much into the whole Mega Man franchise but this has got to be the most rediculous robot master I have ever seen.

Since PC tasing adds a whole new spectrum of games to this community, there should be a discussion about cracked games, especially in terms for DOS games. Back then because of the lack of technical possibilitys for proper copy protection, many games resulted to code books. The game would ask for a certain code on a certain page and you wouldnt have been able to play the game unless you entered correctly. So these cracks removed the copy protection portion of the game or made the game accept whatever you would enter. As we face PC tasing nowadays we should state, what point of view this site has on these cracks. The problem as I see it: PRO: - Many games are hard to come by these days, some only on eBay for expensive prices. Even if you get an uncracked version it probably might not be the version you are looking for. And even if you manage to get your hands on a expensive floppy or whatever copy of the game, you cant expect the viewers to go through the same trouble you did to get the movie to run, can you? - These codesheets are probably gone by now, unless you kept yours back then which is highly unlikely. Using cracked games you wouldnt have to deal with this. CON: - Apart from the obvious copyright infringement, the crack would skip a part of the game the programmers inteded you to do. So a cracked version will always be faster then an original one. - It aint the original version of the game, which could count as a hack in ROM terms. I really think we need a well thought decision on this one, because as time passes PC TASing sure will evolve. Also beacuse the crack-problem is mostly PC only, console games didnt seem to need that kind of protection.

There's also VirtualBox, which allows you to run virtual computers which can have other OSes from your primary OS. So you could install Windows on a virtual computer and run emulators in it. VirtualBox doesn't provide a very good "graphics card", though. It should work fine for 8- and 16-bit consoles.
Yeah you could do that, but youd still need a "valid" Windows key to install it. All in all thers no difference spacewise between VirtualBox (or other software like this) and a clean installation via Bootcamp. Plus Bootcamp has better support for graphic card and such.

and the bootcamp would definately be enough to TAS and encode? If so, how much will it cost? or can I just Torrent the sucker?
It would definetly be enough for TASing, not sure about encoding mainly because of the limited harddrive space you give Bootcamp. Bootcamp comes with every OSX instalation disk. You need a WinXP disk and a key. It will be installed as a seperat OS and you can chose while booting up, but OS X will still boot up by standard. For more infos regarding Bootcamp I suggest your Macs manual or google. Its very easy to set up, believe me.

I really liked the run, there were many entertaining parts (like the time you drove the Metal Slug on top of the plane). I do understand those people who say that the use of deaths in this game kills the entertainment. Maybe you should have split up the deaths over the stages instead of just in one stage? But in conclusion I cant say it bothers me that much that I dont want an otherwise very entertaining run of a great game published on this site. So easy yes vote

for nes, gameboy and snes emulators, crossover works pretty decent on my 2009 macbook. speed is not very fast, so only for tasing not for enjoyable playback or encoding. I havent tested mupen with crossover lately but it should work though I have no idea at what speed. The best option probably is to install WinXP via bootcamp. Ive got 32gb reserved for Windows stuff and it comes in really handy.

The kinda "new" [SIMG] tag should be used instead of the old ["IMG"] tag. Many forums use it these days

Nice so far. Really enjoyed it. But why wont you use the Gobbo duplication trick? It costs a life but you would get 7 Gobbos in 1-1 and wouldnt have to bother with the colored crystals at all. You still get the jigsaw peace in the end. Question is if it still counts as 100%, even tough you duplicate Gobbos and wont collect all the crystals more info in this vid http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AFF1556Z and here http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/croc_legend_of_the_gobbos_psx.html

he claims it was done with rerecording, savestates and frame advances, I would be surprised if it was possible. also the run seems quite sloppy and the so called commentary makes no sense. I smell a troll
