Another update. We finished Eldin Twilight and are heading to Lakebed (~43 minutes in now). AFAIK we're still planning on releasing the second WIP at the entrance of Lakebed Temple, so expect that sometime before the end of the year.

I might do this in the future, we'll see

I tried out the resident evil 4 TAS dtm and it gave this
Just peeking at that dtm in hex editor the header size is different (because of what rachel said) so many of the values got offset and are incorrect.

No one is going to play through the entire game on a dtm before starting a TAS, especially when there is still a risk of desync from doing something like that.
Unless Metroid Prime itself has known desync issues, this shouldn't happen if you're using the correct emulator settings.

This was tested recently. You can't turn in to pictures to Oak, even using the Software Renderer backend.

:0 Care to try TASing the Virtual Console version?
No. RachelB says it runs "fine" using the emulator's software renderer... at about 4 frames per second. I know TASers use slowdown, but it feels different to have it forced upon you. The "faster" thing to do would be to decompile the Wii's proprietary N64 emulator and port a version to PC.
Or wait for the completion of CEN64. (http://cen64.com/index.php)
This actually runs it fine (supposedly, I didn't test this myself), but it has no TAS'ing abilities, lots of graphical issues and runs at <10 FPS regardless of your hardware (since it's intention is to be a cycle accurate emulator).

Couldn't use the analog stick
I haven't played that game in quite a while, but isn't the game playing with the D-pad? Well either way even if it does it won't really help the black pictures
The game plays with the control stick. The control stick doesn't work in game because it gets stuck in tutorial mode at the beginning due to poor emulation. Also, other issues that we mentioned above. Snap is notorious for not really emulating very well on anything.

Hi. TAS progress is slow atm because i'm lazy. I think Rachel and I are gonna release a new WIP soon, maybe at Lakebed entrance? We'll see. We have made some progress since the first WIP; we're around 33 minutes in currently.

Does all this mean 'new any% TAS incoming'? :)
One of the glitches is obviously slower and the other one hasn't been timed yet. So probably not :( EDIT: Actually combining both seems really fast

Is there some secret sub 5 TAS in the making, that noone is allowed to know about until it is submitted, so you can blow all our heads completely away? Yeah, that has to be the reason why nobody is answering my question, I'm sure.
Or maybe those working on it are too lazy to post?

That should be an emulation error, something like that happens in Sonic Adventure DX: when you're in a cutscene, the 2nd text of it gets glitched in Dolphin, not sure why.
Nope, it just only occurs for a frame so you don't notice it on console. Proof from my 100% run:

Wow, I...can't think of a reason that should be possible.
It probably happens because Link is too high while the game is transitioning to the swinging animation. Evidence of this is the master sword being in two places at once in the picture.

The Any% run is ready to be published. Everything left we need is a decent screenshot. The run is pretty short and doesn't provide much footage for awesome screenshots, so I'm not really sure on which one would be a good representation for the it. I made a folder with 10 different screenshots and it would be cool to receive some feedback, which one you like best: https://mega.co.nz/#!cpMhTaAC!OHWNwxxYzjI0QJSVDbIx5mIXonokPEehRdOBZ07rdeQ I decided to post this here, because I'm pretty sure more people attention to this thread and not the 3,5 months old submission thread.

Ah so it lasts through cutscenes? Good to know. Still, wouldn't it be faster to do that right before the password skip? You need to go up there anyway...
The time the door cancel saves is minimal, but it's so much cooler to spend a lot of time in fadeout, and maybe it'll mean the TAS will get a fadeout-less encode. Even though I doubt it because I don't know how TASVideos handles that situation.
Black screen for five or more minutes is a 10/10 in entertainment value for me. This site has dumb rules.

If we would start duping hearts I guess we would have to start duping Skulltulas since you can get 255 of them. And oh lord would that be boring to watch. Why dont we just stay inside the boundaries the game originaly gave us?
Because that would be just as boring, I think :P

Duping hearts wouldn't be counted as collecting items. And if we could get an item infinitely often, then there is no point in collecting it. But the heart piece in Gerudo as a kid, for example, would count towards being collected.
I agree on this. I think duping in this sense is perfectly fine as long as it's not used as a means to reach '20 hearts' or whatever. That being said, I don't think it has a use in the run.

I think the point remains, though. The definition of 100% in Metroid Prime (2) is to pick every item* attainable through the game, regardless of how it affects hud, etc. So we should collect all heart pieces, regardless of how many hearts we end up with, even if the game only intends you to have 20 hearts. *) Definition of item will not be discussed here. Suffice to say, all have agreed that heart pieces is included in the definition of items to pick up.
So at what point do we stop? 20 hearts? 24 hearts? 30 hearts? Additionally, in this particular point of obtaining items in the game, duping hearts would be void because you're not getting all the hearts. You're just picking up the same one repeatedly.
