Total pandemonium is either going to be incredibly awesome, or horribly boring. Not really sure which.
Expect it soon.
edit: not nearly as awesome/boring as i thought :(
i was expecting to 1 shot everything with nio bracelets, but alas, normal enemies still have 2k+ hp, and hit me for 3k+ even when fought at level 16. Which means i have to actually try for this, which means i'm not finishing it tonight.

I dunno. It just happened randomly. I'm not really too concerned about it anyway, since it's (apparently) very rare, and incredibly obvious when playing back with read only.

from the zelda ww tread:
This just happened to me, so do be careful. I had 0xB90 bytes all zeroed, and everything after it seemed to be as it should have been.

Eh, i wouldn't really say that. Boss difficulty isn't really a bad thing in a tas. And starting a battle only takes about a second, so those rooms don't really add much time. Certainly they are far faster than fighting, or even using a smoke bomb. Really, i'd like to see a kisuke run, but i'm just not interested in doing it myself any time soon. Now that dolphin doesn't suck, i want to give pikmin another try once i finish this run. Maybe i'll come back and do kisuke after that.

Suddenly i no longer want to do that.
Actually, i think i have enough smoke bombs to avoid all fights for the rest of the game now, so i don't really have a choice now.
3 to go, and 6 is going to take forever.
Experience is very difficult to optimize, because there's really no way to tell how many fights i will need to fight. At least one of the fights i could not avoid so far i am 100% certain is avoidable (actually i probably smoke bombed the fight i'm thinking of, but that still wastes time, not to mention the smoke bomb), and i suspect a large amount of others are too; i simply couldn't do it, no matter what i did, given the state of the rng at the time. And i made sure that even if i could avoid it, it would take longer to do so than to just fight/smoke bomb it.
The rng is very difficult to work with in this game, and it doesn't help that i can't see it. Avoiding most battles is trivial, and usually only takes a few seconds, depending mostly on how long it was since i last save stated before it comes up, but then every so often i get non-forced battles, that i just can't seem to avoid, i can only manipulate them into different enemies or slightly different places. And i know, some, if not all of these, can be avoided, i just can't do it. I don't know if it requires doing something different 2+ areas in advance (many fights will be locked in as soon as you enter an area, and cannot possibly be avoided, except by either varying movement right before entering it, or by leaving and coming back), or what, i don't know. If someone figured it out, they could probably improve my time by a few minutes. And again, i still haven't managed to manipulate drops.
I doubt i'll do kisuke's storyline. I may consider it at a (much) later date, but for now, i have no intention of doing it. I've had a ton of fun doing this run so far, but i would like to move on to something new once i'm done with momohime.
Yes, i will do that.

Absolutely not. The save state fixes have entirely eliminated all desyncs for me. I'm now 120k frames in since 305 more-save-fixes, and have not had even a single desync. With previous versions i would have expected 1-3 dozen desyncs in that time. Using any version that does not include the save state fixes seems absurd to me at this point.

Had nothing else to do all day, act 5 is done.

This is the first boss to demonstrate anything really unusual. Not only do i take damage, despite my max hp being 1, i also manage to jump around a dozen times without landing, staying airborne for nearly 30 seconds.
I actually could have equipped a much stronger sword at level 8 for this boss, but i would have needed an extra 1 str, which short of restarting the entire game, i could only get by forging 2 blades, which i don't have enough spirit for. There's some food in a house i could have gotten, but then i could not get the 2 smoke bomb drops right after that, so that would have been slower. It sucks, because i past an accessory that adds str earlier in the run, and could have gotten it for iirc 100 frames or so, and it would have saved probably 10-20 seconds, but i'm not redoing more than half of the run at this point, and even then, those two smoke bombs (i didn't manipulate them, they just happened to drop; i have not been able to manipulate drops at all) means it probably wouldn't even be faster in the long run anyway.
Not looking forward to act 6. The boss requires massive amounts of luck manipulation. When i did it on shura before, i had to fight it 3 times because of desyncs. My times were 4, 5, and 8 minutes. Sub 2 minutes should be possible <.<

Eh? Unless i'm missing something the only changes to the master branch since jan 4th, when it was merged to more-save-fixes are optimizations, which don't matter at all for tasing, and a crash fix for an option you should not be using.

I almost wish i could include it in the run, lol.
edit: upon further investigation, i CAN do it without losing any time, ahaha. If i can manage to manipulate a smoke bomb drop from a group including a white ninja, i'll do it.

Pretty sure the newest version of the more-save-fixes branch is the best right now, though i haven't tried anything after this change, so i don't know if there are any bugs introduced after that. However if you use anything before January 4th, you won't be able to update to a newer version later, as your movie won't sync anymore.
If you want the version i'm using, there's a link on the last page, otherwise if you want the newest version of the more-save-fixes branch, you'll need to compile it yourself, or if you can't, i could do it for you in a little bit, if you want.

If you mean what i think you might mean, that was fixed a while ago. Unless you don't, in which case i've never seen such a thing happen as of 3.0-305 more-save-fixes.
Also, since the save state fixes in the aforementioned version, i actually have not gotten a single desync, in some 70k frames.

Depends on how reliably you really need to check it. Playing it back from the start every 5 seconds of gameplay is one thing when you can play it back at 1000+ fps, but it's an entirely different thing when you can only play back at 20-30 fps. In the last month, i've synced around 500k frames with dolphin, and i've had 2 desyncs that did not occur while playing it back with read only. Personally, i'd consider that rare enough that it's never worth the time to stop working and test it from the start. Of course it stills needs to be checked every so often though, but not nearly as often as you would check it with read only (which i usually do every 5-10 seconds).

I recall there being a published run for a NES RPG (unfortunately can't remember what it was) that does similar: the player just starts a new game, enters a town, talks to someone, leaves, enters again, repeats this a few times and suddenly the credits roll. Again the game just seems to suddenly cut to the ending scene after a few minutes of seemingly random, pointless actions.
Here's a better one, finishing the game a third of a second after it starts.

Yeah because you can totally tell if something syncs from a savestate.
99% of the time, you can. But yes, you're right, it is necessary to play back from the start every so often. However, it's easy enough to just let it run over night.
It does sync 99% of the time with TWW of a savestate? Kind of doubt that, but okay...
If somebody here wants to TAS TWW, please don't let me stop you. I just doubt anybody will do it without cracking after about an hour of gametime.
I meant that 99% of the time when it syncs while playing back from a save state with read only, it'll sync when played from the start.

Dolphin hardly ever desyncs any more after some of nitsuja's recent fixes. If you haven't tried it in the last week or two, you have no idea what you're talking about.
