Well, the current rule is that we publish every indie and homebrew game, no matter how crappy, so long as somebody puts a few minutes of effort into TAS'ing them. So under that rule, this should go in too.

I think the issue is not so much that adventure games are bad to TAS, but the issue is that KQ5 is a bad adventure game. At least, by modern standards. It was a groundbreaking game back then, with its VGA graphics and voice acting, but it hasn't aged well. KQ6, for instance, is much better, and offers a low% and a 100% ending. KQ1 and KQ2 have alternative solutions for many puzzles, and large parts of the game which are optional.

There's always route planning; and some of them (but not KQ5) have alternate solutions, or large parts of the game that can be bypassed. For example, in Quest for Glory 1, if you play a rogue and max out your lockpicking skill at the start, I believe you can walk into the secret entrance to the brigand's lair, right from the start.

Does this complete the game? I'm not familiar with this shooter, but it seems to me the mothership is still alive by the end of the movie.

It's important to realize that the site rejects most arbitrary goals. We've had all kinds of discussions about runs with the lowest score, or runs with minimum buttons pressed, and so on, and all of those were rejected. Super Metroid is really an exception here, not the rule.

I strongly dislike this gimmick. Yes, games crash sometimes, we get that. There's no point in showing videos of that, it's not impressive. Do you want a picture of the BSOD I got last month?

Yes, there are minimum standards. In particular, only "any%" and "100%" runs are eligible for the Vault, so anything that fails to complete the game is not.

Reject. Doesn't play at highest difficulty, and is not meaningfully different from a non-tool-assisted run. Also, this is arguably a board game, and board games don't qualify for Vault tier anyway.

I'd say what matters is not whether the game looks similar, but whether the TAS is similar. If the TAS of the port uses glitches or tricks that the original doesn't have, or requires a different route, or has a clearly different definition of "100% completion" then I would like to see both original version and port on the site. For example, for Prince of Persia, we have a run of the NES (which closely matches the PC original), the Genesis (which has different physics) and the SNES (which adds several levels and boss fights).

I don't understand why the Vault rules say that winning a board game against the CPU doesn't count as completing the game. Why is that?

I agree with the people above that this is using a password, which is not acceptable according to the site rules. Regardless of whether it moves you to level 16 or to the endgame, it's still a password.

I agree. The same should to be done with flash games if they are ever TASable.
I agree that we should have some standards for self-published or unpublished games. They are basically the PC equivalent of romhacks on e.g. the SNES, and just as with romhacks there are a few great ones, amidst a sea of tens of thousands of shoddy messes hastily copy/pasted together. And let's be honest, if this were an SNES romhack, it would be rejected before you could even blink.
