Well it certainly got good votes.
Precisely. This shows that people are entertained. I get the impression that you're judging a 1985 game by 1999 (or 2019) standards. And, well, that would be a double standard :)

I've also got a copy of the DOS Jumpman Lives! floating around somewhere. Might do that someday too....but will be more of a tedious TASing process. Jumpman Lives! contains levels from both Jumpman and Jumpman Junior as well as some original levels. There is even a 2014 official sequel available called Jumpman Forever. I'm guessing it would take libTAS or Hourglass (unlikely as the game is designed for Win 7 or higher) to TAS it though.
Oh, there's more than that. For instance, there's Jumpman Zero and Hap Hazard, both of which I'd recommend playing. They also contain many new level gimmicks, whereas if I recall correctly, Lives! or Forever contain no level gimmicks except those from the originals.

Nice! How about the (non-junior) Jumpman? IIRC that's 30 levels with original gimmicks.

What I mean by this is that the Movie Rules discourage utilizing debug features to get to the end.
Yeah, that makes sense to me. I remember playing this game and getting stuck in the penultimate room with only some obtuse hints. I finally googled how to proceed and thought it was poor game design to use an undocumented debug mode like that... ...and lo and behold, the designers were convinced of the same, and took it out in the next build :D

LOL at completing Sreddal like that. And a frame from that death sequence would make a good screenshot, I'd say. Well, I grew up playing this on a C64 and in this case the versions look almost identical. You make a hard game look trivial, so yes vote.

Advanced attacks are actually tricky. The manual says they all consist of Directional Buttons. So input sequences beyond those can be considered cheats and not advanced attacks. The manual says advanced attacks are extremely useful, so they all are encouraged. It also says they consist of 3 or 4 buttons, so such sequences also sound intended.
There is a comparable question for [3582] DOS Bio Menace: Episode 1 - Dr. Mangle's Lab by slamo in 09:16.68 that was never resolved. The manual of the game mentions four "secret moves", tells the input for two of them (plasma bolt and fireball), and mentions two more without revealing their input (shield and temporary invulnerability). And then the manual mentions a "cheat code" (infinite ammo) and tells the input; unlike the other four, this one gives an in-game popup "cheat option" when used. Any thoughts on that? It is unclear (so far) whether these moves would actually make a TAS faster, but it would be nice to have an official answer for trying.

Then why not do that?

This is practically impossible to distinguish from the RTA; so voting no for that.

No; see the first post of this thread.

The Tetris run didn't complete the game, and it was accepted only because it was immensely entertaining for a lot of people (even tho it's just the same pattern repeated over and over). It counts as max score, but not as a vaultable replacement for full completion.

Saturation (maxing out the counter) and overflow (dropping from high value to zero or negative) do not count as "max score".
Yes. You say that it counts as max score, and the MovieRules page says it does not count as max score (and in a section that "talks about all tiers"). So my suggestion is to clarify the latter.

If, however, the poll is "Rate this run", with a grade of 0 to 5, it becomes extremely clear that this isn't asking whether to publish the run or not.
Why would that be the case? It's pretty easy to jump to the conclusion that 0-2 means don't publish, and 3-5 means do publish. Just like how e.g. a college test might map 0%-59% to "you fail" and 60%-100% to "you pass".

Maybe it's worth mentioning that saturation is allowed in Moons as a "max score" run, e.g. the various Tetris games.

what exactly is there to be confused about? Tick one of the boxes, and that's it. What's unclear about that?
What is unclear is how your unusual scale relates to the movie ratings (it doesn't) or to the decision of whether to publish and in which tier (it does, but less intuitively than the current system).

Except we have way more Sonic clones in star tier than Zelda clones. I suppose the best solution would simply be to un-star Cola Kid. As EZGames mentions, the aim was for Lord Of The Sword to be a replacement for Cola Kid in star tier, not to have both.

I think the idea is diversity. Diversity in the types of runs, in the types of games, and even on the types of consoles. We wouldn't want 20 Super Mario and 20 Zelda runs in the starred list (no matter how awesome all of them might be).
Yes. One of the arguments against Cola Kid is that it doesn't add to diversity of star tier, as it's basically another Sonic game.

There's nothing "super entertaining" about Cola Kid, either. I'm not sure why we insist on having exactly one SMS game starred, but if there must be one, Golden Axe Warrior strikes me as the better pick.

I'd suggest [3389] SMS Golden Axe Warrior by zoboner in 30:49.10. It has Zelda 1 style gameplay but with different creative ideas and high technical excellence.
I concur with removing the star from Coca Cola Kid and giving it to Golden Axe Warrior.

Considering how often people misinterpret the single question, it is a great idea to have two questions instead. I get that the judges decide if something is to be published, not the audience. But if you ask a single question, part of the audience IS going to misinterpret that as "should it be published". Far better to ask that separately (and ignore the answer) than to muddle the answer of what we're actulally asking.

Golden Axe on a horse? I'll take it. Why did you use this hero instead of another, or instead of two at the same time? I mean, of course you're going to answer that it's faster, but could you elaborate? :)

I'm not particularly amazed by Coca-Cola Kid, and if people want its star to be moved we can do it. But I disagree that it should be just dropped.
I'm fine with moving the star. Does it have to be moved to another SMS game or another Sonic game? Or does that not matter?
