I use a PS3. I don't have to worry about cooling as its all certified (this is in contrast to my PC which is seriously overheating in the current heatwave and as a result is keeping me offline for anything but 10 minute bursts), and it has other cool bundled functions (bluray player, games console). It also can have linux installed. From a technical standpoint it has the more balanced performance compared to CPUs and GPUs which each excel in different things.

Sounds like good news. Most emulators are available on http://www.bluetoaster.net/emu right now, so if you need any you can get them there. I'm in the process of making a nicer looking website for them also.

While I mostly agree with your points, I have some nitpicking.

At first I thought that this might be a good thing, I could maybe just buy the game and play just the guitar parts with my GH3 guitar, if it happens to be compatible (yeah, that'll happen).
Blame Activision. They're blocking the patch that allows Rock Band to use the same guitars. (Source on Wikipedia)

I feel this is a bit harsh. So you're wishing them harm for them to charge what they want for a game, just because you're unwilling to pay for it? It's not their obligation to make it the same price, and you're not obligated to buy it. You're not losing out on anything other than a game THEY made and YOU want. If you want it that bad then perhaps you should be blaming EA. They are the publishers trying to milk it for all its worth whereas Harmonix are the ones that pretty much came up with the concept you're craving so badly.

I love how Assassin's Creed Violated #7,#6,#5 and #4 yet it didn't get a single mention. Bias!

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Since only 3 colours are used in that whole scene, the filesize is tiny. While a compressed 8-bit png would be rediculously small file also, I feel the gif portrays more information than a static image.

Since JXQ's website has gone offline, it seems my mirror is now the primary location for download. While I kinda don't want it to be the only place for these downloads (bandwidth doesn't grow on trees for me) I'll continue to host and even update it until theres a problem. http://www.bluetoaster.net/emu If theres any emulators missing you consider important, please send me a PM and I'll do my best to add it (I'll also be recompressing older ones as well as recoding the website) Edit: somewhat interesting bit of information: my bandwidth has increased 5 fold since JXQ's mirror went down. So far I've been able to manage this, so theres no immediate concern. Also, the proposed recode of the website is on hold until the 20th (When I finish the first year of university.)

So this resets the game during a save causing corruption to progress? Hmm sounds a teeny bit sketchy, but you won't hear any complaints from me at least. I'll be watching this when I have access to my emulators.

Mupen is cross-platform (it can run on any OS when compiled for it). Various links for the windows version: Download Location Link Forum Topic Input Plugin

...the hell?! I've never had any sound issues with Vista, unless some app tries to grab exclusive access (which it really shouldn't) in which case its a problem with the application more than anything. They need to not blame the OS and code properly. I'm tired of people blaming Vista for things that blatantly aren't an OS problem.

I've never really been a fan of making either the encoder or the logo creator a prominent feature of the logo, short of for their own pride. I can understand a small-sized inconspicuous encoder name in order to tell who encoded it (and as such ask questions about the specific process or problems with the encode) but the logo creator text really has limited usage. Just my opinion.

You're not trying to watch it with anything other than antidesync mupen are you? The savestates are different in this particular version of mupen.

Yes, how dare they protect their property from thieving pirates and ensure that their name isn't tarnished by crappy pirated copies. Burn them at the stake!

I'm at University right now, currently studying for a BSc in Computer Science. Where I go once I finish, I have no idea. Possibly website design, animation or something entirely different. I always pictured myself doing research somewhere or something, but oh well.

Since I'm very interested in future development of mupen64 as it's the only good-compatibility open-source Nintendo 64 emulator out there, I'll be happy to help out anyway I can. I can't really help out on the coding side of things because I only know Java, not C but I'll be happy to do testing, provide info and suggest improvements.

I haven't watched the run yet (I plan to shortly or later tonight), however judging by NVA's pictures some of the levels look pretty badass. Can't wait :)

While I respect the judges' decision, I disagree with such a ruling. Soft reset functionality for N64 is not available in ANY emulator. I do not believe it is a simple thing to implement. While that shouldn't alter the decision, what should is the fact that the current reset method simulates the machine being turned off then on again, which is pretty much a cold reset. Until I hear a specific reason for such functionality to be rejected (rather than merely preferred over a soft reset) I will refuse to agree with said ruling of the functionality and believe it to be complying with bizarre rules for such a case.

I think that really detracts a lot from the run, don't you think? There has got to be some other way the entire run can be recorded. I remember L4yer had no problems at all in getting to the next level. Also, in order to record the resets, are you using the record reset mupen? (I thought you were using the anti-desynch mupen...) You know the resets offered by that mupen is not accepted by the judges, right?
Technically speaking, I'm not entirely sure why mupen with record resets should be disallowed, whereas the whole of mupen should be allowed. If you're not too fussed about publication and you're doing it purely for the end result of the run, use resets and push for their acceptance. Just my opinion.

Well, I guess sometimes its just common sense that stops people from testing things. After all, who would expect that actually running backwards (or sidehopping) would be faster than rolling? As for the gaining enterance through the DoT early... I was unaware that getting wedged in the pillar was obvious? I thought the obvious thing would be to get enough speed to pass through the door (which is what I thought people were trying).

Odd bug that I think has been around for a bit: Graphic --> Never skip frame with autoskip gets stuck checked. It won't uncheck when you click it again. I also seem to get odd sound problems in your latest run (for example, when robotnik flies past just before the start of FBZ1, the sound is missing...)

and excuse my noobiness yet again, but why can't you just press "no" when it asks if you want to continue playing when you die after falling into the void at ToT?
I've learned that when it comes to TASing (and many other things) if it seems obvious, its probably been tried. This was mentioned a couple of pages ago, I think. In great detail. You end up back in the ToT Master Sword chamber when you die.

Of course, I can't believe I forgot that you can't use items. does that just leave hoverboots as the only real option? Edit: Or using the spirit temple warp song, then hauling ass back across hyrule.

I didn't see this mentioned, but wouldn't it be quicker to blow yourself shitless with bombs/bombchus rather than jumping into the void many times?
