Well, I haven't posted here in a very long time, but I guess it's time I finally become active around here. Anyway, I've been thinking about doing a TAS run of some random Genesis game lately, and I wasn't able to find anything that wasn't already near complete. That was until I realised no one worked on Shadowrun yet. So I decided I'll take it up. I'm not sure how I'm going to do this exactly. So far, I've replayed through the game once (it's really, really short once you know where to go, less than 3 hours long), and I'm pretty sure the best path to take would be Mako Sochou's path as a Samurai runner. There's no fighting in the Matrix with this path, so I can ignore my Decker skills and getting Decker runners, and it's fairly fast, although it can be a bit difficult to take down the Renkaku strike teams Here's what I came up with so far as a path, using the Samurai archetype:
  • Go to the Ares Weapons Emporium, sell my handgun. I should have around 195¥ now.
  • Hire Ricky and go back to the Ares Weapons Emporium, sell his gear and buy a Predator Handgun for Joshua. The Predator is the most powerful weapon in the game, having it is practically mandatory. I should now have around 215¥ left.
  • Go meet Gunderson, do a run that is worth at least 35¥ to ensure I have the 250¥ required to get Michael's stuff.
  • Get Michael's stuff, I now have 500¥.
  • Go meet Tabatha, I should be down by 40¥ now.
  • Go back to Redmond Barrens and do two runs for Gunderson so I get the 500¥ needed back.
  • Meet Boris, trigger the ambush event, let myself die so I respawn in Penumbra District. The loss of money from this is negligable, I'm almost broke anyway.
  • Do runs for Mortimer until I have enough money to afford an Armor Jacket and Phantom. This will also give me Karma I can spend on my attack and defense ratings.
  • Go to the Penumbra Club and fight Mako and his guards. With Phantom at my side, this should be easy enough.
So far, everything is fairly quick. Luck manipulation is minimal, mostly used to get the shortest route for runs and not getting killed as soon as Renrakus spawn. The longest part of this is to get the required money to hire Phantom and get the Armor Jacket, which amounts about to 1,650¥, which is around 9 to 10 Runs from Mortimer. This would give me a total of 12 or 13 Karma points to give out before starting the first real mission. Anyway, I think I'll keep on planning for a bit and see how much luck is needed to finish the game with minimum stats. Renraku teams will be most likely a bitch, even if I put my stance on pure Defense. I'll have to see how to get around to killing them as fast as possible. If anyone has any tips to give to make this any faster and easier, please do so. I'd really love to finish this run, but it's going to be really hard.

You can only view/record movies with the modded emulator. Version 2.11 (official) won't support movies because the author is reluctant to add movie playing/recording to it. So just get Gens movie 9e from the sticky.

Yeah, I know, I post way too many topics in a way too short span, but hey that's me. At least, my topics have a purpose. :P Anyway, on to the, well, topic of this topic. As most of you know by my low post count and other posts, I'm a newbie at superplays. I've done a few speedruns though, but nothing actually published or even finished. Partly because I'm too much of a perfectionnist and partly because I didn't have the dedication to finish any of them. Superplays give me the chance to do things to perfection however, and that's probably what makes me like them so much. So for the last 9 hours or so, I've been playing Splatter House 2 non-stop, finding ways to go faster and kill enemies as fast as possible, as well as find where collision boxes end. I'm starting to get the hang of it, and I manage to do some pretty good stuff by jumping around and abusing Rick's ridiculously small collision box, compared to his enemies at least. The game is pretty challenging, even at 50% speed, and some levels seem like obstacles are completely unavoidable (level 4-2 for example, features ghosts that hook up to Rick and makes your d-pad the opposite of what it originally is, those ghosts are almost indestructible and are not worth trying to kill in a run where speed is the focus). Bosses are a joke once you figure out their patterns however, and I can take out most of them without even breaking a sweat. The only exception to this would be the second boss, where I tend to do some reckless stuff to abuse his pattern and possibly make him a faster kill then when I take my time. Anyway, enough talking, here is the run, the AVI file does not have any sound due to some technical problems when encoding the audio file into the video file (desyncing, bad frame placement, etc.), however the .GMV file is clean of those problems and features the full sound. The ROM I used is Splatterhouse 2 (u) [c][!].bin, if you want to see the .GMV movie file, you'll have to find that ROM by yourself: GMV file for Gens (requires ROM, 38kb): Here AVI file (no sound due to technical problems, requires XviD codec, 6.7 mb): Here So far, these two levels have 13096 frames put together, for a total of 3min 38.27sec (my current replay stops at the level 3 opening scene, which is somewhat longer than the .AVI file I recorded, which itself is clocked at 3min 32secs). I had to rerecord over 114 times for those two levels only, and from what I can judge of the other levels I've played, I'll probably end up with around 1,400 rerecords when this will be finished. Hope you guys enjoy the run as much as I enjoyed making it so far. :D

Yeah, alright, so if you read my earlier post, you know I'm pretty much of a newbie to superplays. However, I seem to have less problems recording with Gens than I do with FBA, so I decided to try out a superplay of Adventures of Batman & Robin (single player mode), which is in my opinion the most frantic and awesome Batman game ever made. For those who never played it, think Contra meets everyone's favorite caped crusader, and a lot more difficult. For now, I've found a few ways to get through places faster, such as using death power-ups to destroy all the enemies in a screen at once (mostly done when I'm being followed by too many enemies at the same time and I end up at a point where I have to take them all out first), holding on to the ceiling and using carefully timed double jumps to get through places faster (goes at around 2.5x Batman's running speed). However, I'd like to know more tips, I never managed to beat the last boss when I was younger, and now replaying on Normal difficulty is even worse. I'd post some video, but I'm still working on not getting my ass handed to me by the first level boss, for such an early game targetted at children, I'm wondering how the heck I got so far when I have so much problems with it now.

Eh, I was talking with a friend of mine about arcade emulators and superplays, and he told me there weren't any. So I was a little surprised when I saw this patched FBA (or wasn't it FB@ before? Bah, no matter). So I've been fiddling with this emulator for around three hours now, doing some stupid stuff in Metal Slug and ESP Ra. De. and I decided to try out recording and sending to AVI. Please note that I'm a total newbie to making my own superplays, I love watching them and I love doing standard speedruns, although none of my stuff actually gets published, or finished for that matter. So I boot up DoDonPachi and decrease the speed to 50% and do a stupid run of the first level where I hog up the front of the enemy ships, dodging every bullets at the same time. I start the replay and the AVI recording input to see what it looks like at full speed, and the mapping seems to be off by quite a lot, and the run ends up nothing like it was in slow motion. I try out again, this time at 50% speed, but the AVI recording doesn't seem to be going any faster than the 50% speed run. On to my question: I'm thinking about superplaying a few shooters for my own enjoyment before moving on to bigger arcade game projects, being a newbie to doing my own superplays, I'd like to know how the heck can I go back to fullspeed when recording, or if my eyes are just making crazy stuff up. (Holy crap, this is the most intelligble first post I've ever done)
