I finshed it! User movie #26219911148802848 This is the final version. I improved the first and last boss fights, and lots of places where falling was necessary by jumping before a ledge. A couple of other things too.

I would like co-author credit please. I'm working on optimising some other parts of the movie that are improvable, and I'll post back in a few hours with an updated movie file. There's no point updating the file until then.

Link to video Half of the tricks in this game are in this one room... This should be faster assuming you can avoid the Yux after you come out the pipe.

User movie #26170418437168561 I improved the second boss by roughly 7 seconds. It can definitely still be improved though, so good luck with that Mephistus! I thought the boss had one less health than it actually did, so the ending can probably better. (The address 0184 is boss HP, and it lives while at 0 health and only dies when the value wraps to 255.) I didn't try and improve any other parts of the movie, but I might later today. Not touching this boss again though.

I put my PC into sleep mode. After exiting sleep mode, I got this error: http://imgur.com/XBWfe3b Upon selecting "No" I got this message after BizHawk closed: http://imgur.com/rYa52Of This was using BizHawk 1.11.2, and didn't happen to me in 1.11.1. I'm using Windows 8.1, if that's relevant. This seems to happen whatever I'm doing in BizHawk, even if a ROM isn't loaded.

Personally, I found the loops to be very entertaining. Sure, they dragged on a little, but the fact they're even possible is fascinating to me. I think this is a concise, fun category choice and any sort of maximum coin variation without loops would just be too arbitrary. Though, a maximum score TAS would be a neat thing to see in the future, since this site doesn't have enough challenge-based TASes like this one.

This seems optimised, but I'm sorry to say that it couldn't really hold my interest, even though it's not very long. No vote, but a nice improvement nonetheless. Also, previous is [2173] NES Wait and See! by XTREMAL93 in 08:57.41.

For an improved 20 Shines TAS you could get this blue coin in Ricco: http://www.twitch.tv/sunshinecommunity/v/13797034?t=5m48s. You could also get the blue bird coin while opening Ricco instead of while fighting the Goop Piranha, maybe even without losing any time.

User movie #24910082370551279 Tied you exactly so far, quite curious to know if we've used the same routes.

Found a new strategy on level 2, goes over empty squares only 6 times (as opposed to 8 times), which saved 19 frames. My ending trick only saved 1 frame for some reason, so 20 frames saved on level 2 and 3 frames saved on level 1 (with the ending trick).
Could you post an input file please? I figured out your ending trick: pause and unpause right before a level finishes.

User movie #24885350533620511 Improved level 1, also had to add two frames before level 3 because otherwise it desynced, oddly. Everything else is the same. I'll try to improve the other levels later / tomorrow.

By the way, I recently thought about using this script on that Mario 64 glitch in Tick Tock Clock. It might be an easy way to collect the $1000 bounty. The problems are that I haven't touched the script in ages, I don't have the Mario 64 ROM, and the script isn't set up for N64 games. Even so, I thought I would throw that out there if anyone else would like to collect on the bounty.
Yeah, when I saw the bounty I remembered reading about this script, and thought it might to do the job.

Yep, that movie includes both my improvements. Nice job! I think that is a solid time for a final version.

Those should both already be in the file in progress, and said file in progress should be up within an hour or two.
Awesome! I'll check the file when it's posted.

I found two more improvements, saving four frames in total. The first is that you can press A on frame 5790, to jump one frame earlier than the current run. The second improvement is here: User movie #24663496504062010 The room that starts frame 8827 is now 3 frames faster, from a slightly different strategy. So hopefully these improvements can be used in the newest run that's apparently being worked on. I'm done searching for improvements, and hopefully this will be the final version!

Well, I'd like to put here the file of the improvement, but Bizhawk just disappeared with it (and I did save it before closing Bizhawk). I'm terrible to learn to use new emulators, where should Bizhawk saved movies go?
Do you mean you're wondering where your movie is saved on your computer? Inside your BizHawk folder ("BizHawk-1.11.1" for me) there is a folder called "Movies" and it should be there. If you mean you don't know where to upload it, you can upload it to Userfiles.

User movie #24590446665668671 I optimised my improvements a bit more, and did my best to make it sync nicely. I had to add around a dozen frames to get it to work, so someone with more experience at syncing runs should be able to do a better job :P

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/24574709056881534 The room after the first improvement needs to be re-optimised since you enter it at a different speed. Also, I've messed with the input after my improvements to try and make it sync, just to warn you.

Link to video I found two small improvements, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting them to sync. If someone else could sync them I'd appreciate it.

I swear I've seen a video of someone using the shell and getting stuck in some spot while moving backwards for 30 minutes just to build up speed. Or maybe that was the remake.

Actually now that I think of it, what would happen if you attempted a job at the help center that unlocks from later chapters, and without completing it, trigger the previous chapter before the job is available?
Weird stuff can happen. For example you can complete the Twilight Town Mayor's trouble for him while he's a pig, and he'll talk to you and give you the item like nothing is wrong :P The troubles will be completable if you've accepted them, but if you cancel a trouble that you shouldn't have at that point in the storyline, it will mysteriously disappear. It should theoretically be possible to get Ms Mowz early as well, by triggering the Poshley Sanctum cutscene after doing UHE so all the troubles up to Chapter 6 appear, and doing hers. So you could get Ms Mowz with only 1 Crystal Star probably, and then still progress by setting the game back to Chapter 2.

I don't think there is anyone working on a TAS right now. You should try talking to zelpikukirby: since he made the most recent TAS he might want to help with a new one, and also he might have the memory addresses you need.

Sorry for the dumb questions but is there any reason why this hasn't been submitted to TASVideos yet then? And is this the most optimal route including Pinna 5 skip (or whatever everyone wants to call it)? I've try to read as much as this forum as I possibly could since I do plan on at least attempting to TAS this game.
That TAS isn't entirely optimal, which is probably why it hasn't been submitted. The Bianco 5 RNG isn't perfect, for example. It does use the fastest route, except it doesn't have Pinna 5 skip since it was made a while ago. A new TAS should use the exact same route apart from in Pinna where you would do Pinna 5 Skip, which there is already a TAS of: http://youtu.be/nTnWaKFQeuw

Isn't the Italian version faster?
Italian and Japanese are quite close in time for Any%, but the Japanese version is faster because it has quicker loading times for Delfino Plaza. The versions are NTSC-J > PAL (Italian) > NTSC-U or PAL (other languages) for Any%. The downside to the Japanese version is that Sirena 6 takes longer, but it's still faster overall.
