I have to admit, these variable avatars are really cool to mess around with. I think I spent a good three or four hours putting together all of mine. They're not quite mood-indicative, but it's kinda fun to have a new background behind my character there at the click of a button. Each background is also from Mega Man X. You can have some fun trying to see if you can spot where each background comes from. Some are easy, some might not be. Good luck figuring them all out!

I've enjoyed what I've heard from Elton John, though I'm much more familiar with his stuff from the 80s to early 2000s than I am with any of his older hits, which is kind of a shame on my end, I suppose.

Congrats, Mr. Tompa, for finally finishing the run and the submission text! Now take a well-deserved rest.

Normally I don't really go sharing these kinds of things, but a friend of mine on deviantArt did this, and I did it a few times and it's got some laughable results. Since we here seem to enjoy dorking around like this, and it's a good way to chill for a few minutes while doing a TAS, I figure I'd toss it up. Enjoy! --- CREATE YOUR OWN BAND NAME & ALBUM COVER: To Do This 1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. 2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations" or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album. 3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. 4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together. 5 - Share!

This is not a forum for game sharing. Try elsewhere.

I strongly think this and the previous movie should both be published as separate categories. I just don't know what to call the category for the older movie... "less glitched", eh?
I'd just call this one the "glitched" run and the other one a "non-glitched" (or just leave the first one alone), in reference to the use of boundary-surpassing glitches. Seems like a fairly simple solution for me.

The submission text, at least how I read it, seems like you were purposefully sloppy with this run. If you can save ten or more seconds by doing something, or you admit you should have done other things but didn't, then why didn't you go back to fix such glaring mistakes? I mean, if it was a minor overlook or two after the fact, I could myself overlook it, but when you mention that you could have done things but didn't pretty much consistently throughout. If you're going to attempt something, at least do your absolute best. I'd suggest going back to plan your route and what you plan to do, then give it another shot. I'm currently not voting due to the fact that it wouldn't be fair because I haven't watched it yet (due to homework). I'm going to assume it's not that bad, but it needs sprucing up before it's ready for its next job interview, so to speak.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1475039669/Mega%20Man%20X%201.smv This is about the fifth time I've completed Mega Man X in one life. I'll probably post a better one later where I don't screw up so much at the end.

I agree with Halamantariel. This is a very sweet run, but I don't think it should obsolete the current video because of the heavy glitch abuse. I'll vote on it being in a league of its own.

Funny thing is, with this game, I actually found the creator of it. He has a YouTube account. I gave him the link to it. He said "Nice going!" in a comment. I feel glad. :D How many TASes can it be said that the creator of the game has seen and approved of the run?

Nice! I have a few 'net pals in Brazil that I wish I could meet. Heck, I even learned Brazillian Portuguese, so I could probably stumble through a conversation. If nothing else, they can all make fun of me for sounding dumb. :p

What parts of the run seemed avoidable to you, chupapi? Maybe I could try to explain them better (or at all, since I don't quite remember if I said anything about that or not. I was up until 4:00 A.M. writing the submission text).

I've been trying to look for a method to do this for a long time, but no dice. I've been trying to use cheat searching to find out the character modifier codes of games where none are posted. However, the game seems to list the characters of a specific game. What I mean is, the order that is given to us, either in the video game, or listed in a magazine or in some other order, is much different than the game's actual order. Let me give an example by using Mortal Kombat 2. The typical "order" of the playable characters tends to be this: Liu Kang Kung Lao Johnny Cage Reptile Sub-Zero Shang Tsung Kitana Jax Mileena Baraka Scorpion Raiden However, in the game's listing in the ROM is as follows: 00: Kung Lao 01: Liu Kang 02: Cage 03: Baraka 04: Kitana 05: Mileena 06: Shang Tsung 07: Rayden 08: Sub-Zero 09: Reptile 0A: Scorpion 0B: Jax As you can tell, there's a few similarities here and there, but other than that, the game's listing of characters is much different than the order, and if you were to try looking into things in terms of their perceived order, than you would more than likely not find the code. My question is this, what is a reliable method for trying to find such a thing? I have been trying to use "Equal To" and "Not Equal To" searches, but then it just doesn't find anything. Greater than/less than searches are not reliable either because how do you know whether the game lists the characters in the same order as shown or perceived?

Thanks, nineko! I really appreciate it. What I might also do is convert this video, if accepted, to a PSP-readable format too, stick it up on archive.org, and maybe restart the whole PSP video download thing. I dunno yet, but it seems to be a nice goal. =) The AVI is now up on my YouTube! Here's the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzZCeIYZIVY (If it's not processed yet when you see this, give it a little time.)

When I TASed, I kept the chat room up so I could get check times and chill out whenever I got working too hard and needed to take a break. I do a lot of memorizing of how many frames it takes the game to do various actions (jumping, screen transitions, etc.), and it cut down a lot of unnecessary re-records for me. I'm very trial-and-error, which is probably common.

The constant jumping and the noise associated with it ruined this. I liked the test run better specifically for the lack of it. The best parts were in the crawl space when you weren't doing it and the screen couldn't keep up.
There's nothing much I can do about the sound unless someone makes a code to lower the volume or mute the noise entirely. Could be something that can be stuck in the AVI file if published. EDIT: Also, can I be a slight pain in the ass and ask someone for a new encoded AVI with a non-screwy ROM version? I just wanna put the file up on my YouTube account, that's all. Thanks!

Yeah, the background is actually a ROM issue. The first time I tried this game I was like "What the hell is going on here?". Then I tried a different ROM and it worked. I also didn't realize the emulator was that old, since every time I've recieved a video file, I could watch it without any trouble at all. If I do another TAS, I'll make sure to grab an updated emulator. As for YouTube, actually, I have my own. I'll put it up there, thanks. =)

Thanks! Supper also found another time saver. I take off the spring shoes and I can actually jump farther, so I saved a whole bunch of frames on that as well. Between everything else, I saved 37 frames, for a grand total of... *Drum roll* 14,972 frames! No WIP posted. No, guys. This is the final version. Wait and find it in the submission queue now!

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1426312840/gs_tas2.fcm Guess what's dooooooone! If there's no notable improvements to be made, then I'm submitting this baby tomorrow. :D Final (?) Frame Count: 14,999 frames. Yes, I'm not kidding you. 14,999 frames. Well under my projected 25,000 frame guess.

No, I think I was just a little mixed up on what the method was. I was thinking something entirely different. Zipping is always faster for anything that would normally take over 30 frames, whenever the opportunity can arise for such an occasion. Hence, I take it. Zipping through the raised part at the breaks in the crawl space won't work. I won't have enough momentum to get to the upper parts where I need to be.

If I could combine it with a floor zip for the second and third classrooms, then it definitely would save time for sure. Otherwise, I'd have to walk all the way across the end of the other classrooms.

I've got the crawl space taken care of. Actually, when I do the zip through the upper part of the classrooms, I go so fast that the screen can't keep up. This will rock, and be the final hard part of the run. I also have a few different ideas of beating the final boss, knocking the grate open, and finishing. I'm gonna see which way is possible, the fastest, and most entertaining.
