Discussion on versions and sequence breaks Andrew schultz, who was working with the original apple version, wrote in his gamefaqs guide that you can skip kalohn. (Don't know if he actually tested it.) This would save a lot of time.
I know ASchultz, so if you want me to ask how he did it, I can send out a line.

I'd be surprised if BoF1 was very TASable. I don't personally know of any huge time-saving glitches, and the game is pretty long and monotonous.
I'm not so sure - The game is also much, much easier than BoF2. I'm not positive, but I may have beaten it, taking my time, in 15 to 20 hours in my youth. I think if optimized, there's a chance you could make a quick video. Some of the dragon equipment is really powerful, and acquirable just by fishing, I believe.

Wow, great video! I think this is one of those games you have to play to appreciate how good this movie is. The Dizzy games are hellishly difficult, with so many random items, some of which have no purpose at all, along with really annoying "instant death" pits and what not. Think of Dizzy as the NES equivalent of The 7th Saga, another game that is much harder than it should be. Do you have any plans on tackling the sequel? That's the one I'm most familiar with from my childhood, and I never came close to beating it. The lowest I could get was around 25 stars left.

I'd be interested to see this game beaten to a pulp, seeing as I don't recall ever getting past that first castle/dungeon-type place.
I'll echo this sentiment - I was able to recover four or five runes, but good lord, the difficulty in this game is ri-cock-ulous. I eventually got to a point where even random encounters on the map meant near instant death. I re-tried it on an emulator a few years ago, and while it was easier with save states, it was still so tedious I didn't get much further. Please beat the crap out of this game for all of us who couldn't back in the day! :D

I upgraded my SNES; apparently, I only have the v7 improvement. Who knew it made such a difference ;) Works fine now. After reviewing the movie, it's amazing work. My only question: why did you bring Gau and Setzer to the Sealed Cave? Does the game make you take three people at this point? Between that segment on the airship and the end of the Sealed Cave, there are no fights, since you can run from them all. You don't fight again until during the Imperial recruitment, which arguably you don't need to do, since I don't think you use the Charm Bangle. If you did, sorry I missed it, since I was watching in fast forward.

My copy keeps de-syncing shortly after Locke and Terra escape Narshe, but before they make it into Figaro Castle. I've tried the pre-loaded movie settings, and GoodSNES tells me I'm using v1.1 of FF3. I've also tried fiddling with a few options here and there; anyone else have this problem besides me and have a fix for it?

Regarding leveling up to level 8, I think this would take far more time than doing 20 rounds against the ant. The enemies in Onett and the Ant Cave don't really provide a ton of experience, and how long could the battle with the ant take? Five minutes at most? If so, I'm not sure if you could power level from 5 to 8 in less than five minutes. If you surprise one of the little black ants throughout the cave, do you get an instant victory? If so, then you might be able to gain enough levels quickly. Once you do get PSI rockin' though, I don't think you'll need to level up at all the rest of the game. Even against later enemies, the first PSI rockin' attack does around 100 hit points. And of course, if you really can put every boss to sleep or flash them to death, then gaining levels is a waste of time (unless you need speed boosts to ensure that a boss won't kill your entire party in one hit).

For some reason, this game always reminded me of Alundra. I'd be very interested in seeing a run of the game, given that I could never will myself through it completely. It was one of those second-tier Enix games that they really should have shelved, and instead focused on getting more of the DW games over.

Also - Have you looked into using shamans and the transformations? I remember that some are much more powerful than others, which could be useful for dungeons and boss battles.

I am curious about Sten - Aren't you required to use him for a few solo battles? It's been a while since I've played BoF2 (VERY slow and plodding, at least the SNES version, prefer the GBA one which kicks up the gold and exp for each battle). If he's at a low-level, I imagine it'll be hard to win these fights. As for your most current problem, have you calculated whether the drop in damage will definitely hurt you down the line? I'm sure it will reduce damage, but there are also some really nasty bosses in the final dungeon. Would Ryu and other party members even be able to live through certain attacks without higher levels? Anyway, I haven't looked at the WIP yet, but I will soon, since I have played and beaten this game, and I did enjoy it despite the pacing.

I personally enjoyed the two minute long scrolling credits at the end - Good lord, that's slow. Is that a record of some sort? It seems like something that should be catalogued. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. Unique magic to use, lots of action as opposed to dodging everything, etc. Kudos, dude!

the 3rd chapter talks about having somebody (Terra?) be levelled up to 99 in the "world after the collapsing", then dying. how that works or why they don't just use the Lete River in the WoB is beyond me.
Sadly, it's probably quicker to play through the game to the WoR and fight a crapload of T-Rexes with Terra to lvl 99 than to use the Lete River trick. I believe it takes around 12 hours or so at normal speed just to get up around level 60 with that trick, and I'm sure there comes a point where you're not even gaining a level in an hour. If you just play through the game normally from Lete to WoR, even hustling a bit, then using luck manipulation, experience egg and only Terra in a party, you could probably level her up more quickly.

Wow, great movie. I agree, this isn't a great Metroid game, but I'd argue more because it plays a bit choppy and "weird" as opposed to the format of the others. However, I don't really see how this one is any more linear than others; the others just have the illusion of being non-linear. As far as I know, you can't, say, get the plasma beam before you get bombs.

I wish you good luck in the speed run - Seems like a tall order from my fiddling around. Near as I can tell, it doesn't seem like there's much of a way to avoid / manipulate what fights you get into, and whether they are back attacks or pre-emptive strikes. Also, the game has a nasty habit of giving you fights after taking only one step from the previous fight, which happened as many as four times in a row to me in the Tower of Zot (i.e. four steps, four fights). I've experienced the double attack bug, but it seems to happen more with my characters in the backrow, from casual observation. More interesting are speed balance issues - I might be mistaken, but I don't recall Cecil getting four attacks to one for the twins ever, or Yang being ridiculously fast once you get into the underworld. Also, charge times for the twin spell and most magic seems to be significantly warped. The twin spell is essentially worthless - it takes them three to four rounds to cast it. Any second level elemental spell has a wait time on it, three level moreso, but the Bio spell has no charge. Also, white magic seems to launch immediately as well. Something feasible is probably doable if you put enough effort into it. I'm playing fairly normally, and I'm only at six hours at the first entrance to the Tower of Babel. If I had skipped all the dialogue and manipulated save states better, I probably could have shaved a lot of time off that.

Wow - Amazing movie. It's one of the few long movies I've been able to watch start to finish. You did a great job manipulating all the secrets and bugs in SoE. Watching this made me a bit nostalgic. Are there anymore of these quirky RPGs around? Seems like now, all the fun RPGs like SoE and Earthbound are replaced with forced humor and "cute funny."

Also it looks like a pretty funny game. Sort of Zelda and Lagoon in a mix.
Although this may be blasphemous, I consider Gaia to be far superior to Zelda. It has the same basic system, but with the additions of multiple fighting styles (Will, Freedan and Shadow) and multiple moves for these characters. IMHO, Zelda LTTP seems to skate by solely on its reputation. Commenting on the run, it was really nice to see a great game getting a good run. Any plans on doing the other games in the series, Soul Blazer or Terranigma? I must say that I enjoy watching some of the longer runs like this, Mario RPG, Final Fantasy, etc.

True, but it's not like the instruction manual tells you what the use for each enemy, and there's no in-game instruction to that point either. Knowing what to use on what enemy requires looking it up in a guide or experimentation. Which is all but impossible when you're dealing with 20+ weapons over 20+ different enemies. Nifty to play around with, but ultimately it just made things more complicated for me. I ended up using soda cans on anything my water gun didn't hurt.

I liked the run, but it does seem like it would appeal more to the people who have actually dealt with this bastard of a game. If anything, I'd say it's hurt by the fact that there are so many weapons and not enough "boss" monsters that require you to really give them everything you've got.

Whatever the reason, it has now been several weeks. You might want to e-mail / page them if you can, since myself and others seem to be clamoring for this run.

Bump? Just wondering why this hasn't been posted yet, since there are 14 "yes" votes for it. I am a bit of a newbie though...
