ok, upthorn didn't mention it there, so I'll post it for you, Bock, if you're still with us. hope I didn't scare you. it seems Meka will be the best candidate after all. mainly because it supports much more games than the others. and yeah the code is a mess, but as far as I could understand, upthorn counts on you about it :) (it seems he's still into Gens but to improve the file format, see other discussions) so we hope you'll work on Meka ; you're our last hope, obiwan kenobi !

I noticed when doing my second attempt that there is some randomness in the moves that can be manipulated.
I was more thinking of manipulating the AI to actually play some famous game... if it's just to watch a game on 2p, that would be much easier to go on a chess site and watch those replays. nothing impressive in that...

Someone mentioned SMS support. Without making ourselves much trouble, I think we could: - reserve a number for type "SMS controller" in controller configuration - reserve a flag/number for type "SMS game" in 'rom info' - make a 'MSpauses'-chunk identical to the 'resets '-chunk for the pause button located on the SMS

SMS/GG TASing will be done on a different emulator. Meka is the only emulator which doesn't freeze on a number of games, and the author is willing to help improve it for TASing purposes.
it seems it's not on upthorn's projects, so we will have to wait for Bock's work, but he's been missing since a while.

didn't Luke code such a conditional bot on his FCEU mod ? the bot seemed to be hard to be used by anyboby but him (since there is very little doc), but it understood a very basic programming language. I'm not sure it would be very useful here though. the smk bot is supposed to find the best conditions by brute-force ; human help could only support it a little, and it could miss inhuman moves. I'm thinking of Bisqwit's Megaman 1 bot, which did find things that no human could have ever thought about. even if no distributed client is set, it'd still be cool for some people interested here, to test the bot, and watch the results (even if they are still far from the World Human Records). btw, does the movie saving works, Huffers ? it should since they are stored in savestates, due to bulletproof recording. could you show us some examples of what the bot achieves at the moment ?

force the nes to play a very famous mate, making it lose despite its maximum difficulty setting ? like the shepherd mate ? or a legendary game, such as Bobby Fisher...

wow, if anything I said was of any help, I must have hidden powers or something. I didn't even understand what your real problem was. anyway, you're welcome.

can't you bind its buttons to keys with some sort of driver ? chosing snes9x keys, of course. that way, you could use your pad in any game. how does your pad work elsewhere (if it does) ?

the main reason should be sda's quality criteria, which has changed, just like here, at tasvideos. both "runs" (in fact the doom one is just a divx compilation) are very very old (between 98 and 2003), and I guess that back then, playthroughs were acceptable. let us remember that the first runs on this very site had a very discutable quality up until recently ; criterias evolve (tools too), the (quickly growing) size of the list made the judges (and the watchers) asking for more and more spectacular shows, so it does explain it all.

in bullet-proof rerecording, aren't movies recorded within the savestates ? if snes9x isn't bullet-proof, maybe it would be time to add it :) I'm really eager to see the result of your bot, if it beats the human records by a significant margin.

that's a very nice tutorial. nice work adelikat. it should be added on the "how to use the emulators" FAQ, I think.

hopefully, thanks to Zidane, we had a very quiet night here. considering that 3 people died after the previous victory (true story), you could even say that his headbutt saved lives ! thanks so much ! (please note that I'm kidding.)

I was used to read those magazines before the net was popular, in the 90s, but I gave up when everything that I could read inside, was one month old (or older) material on dedicated websites. even the files on the free dvd, were demos I already tested or saw weeks before. so why bother ? make yourself a good news list, and you will have all the info, up to date, and even better, for free :)

like this one ? http://www.sandiegoserenade.com/2006/04/1986_world_series_game_6_reena.html too bad I can't understand the action, and I had to search a page that explains why it is so special. maybe I'd want to see the real one to compare them and admire the reenact really. is there any footage of it ? anyway, doing famous matches again is a good idea, provided everyone can understand the comparison, so I'd suggest to include the original along...

the mario 64 run is very impressive. to know that is has been done without any tool, whereas it looks like it was, is simply awesome. zelda minish cap looks very good too.

too complicated in my humble opinion ; interesting, but a simple thing such as preventing the character from falling is too tedious. you have to let some parts of the legs loose, some tighten, then add spring to other to give impulse etc. 0.o;;; in fact, it lacks a tutorial, and a feature to watch replays with command on screen (just like the emulators here) frame by frame, to learn how to do the basic things.

if you know you don't respect the rules, and that it will be rejected, why bother submitting it ? we don't care about your ego... please respect the watchers and do the job fully, or don't. sorry if I sound rude, but have you ever thought quality over quantity ? tens of boring TASs don't make a good one. please show more dedication in your work... and spend more time on just one game... good luck !

hex editing is hard, not because tools lack, but because random number generators make the run desynchronize after the copy/paste. hence, a tool wouldn't help much, since rngs are inherent in games, not in tools/emulators... it would just be more practical :)

maybe record the console type, in case of a (very hypothetic now) sms/gg support ? or should it be recorded in another container, with another extension ? or just another emulator -__-

such a video has already been posted, can't remember where though. tas probably, so yeah, doing it in real time should be very hard, but the result itself, the playing, do not look very impressive.

quoted from SDA, Nifflas (the author of the game) finally posted a recorded run of his 20:59. glitchless. http://nifflas.outpostmusic.com/Wafflerun.wmv not perfect, but incredible consistency for such a long time and a game that difficult. by the way, I'm no expert so, could someone tell me why sometimes the ball glows red ?
