Warp, if I may, I'd like to say something on this topic. Once I was promoted to site staff, I did in fact change my attitude greatly from how it used to be. I could even claim that I'm an example that disproves your original post. I'm well aware that I represent the site, now. I'm well aware that I need to be on better behavior at all times. I'm well aware that there are people that disagree with me being where I am. And I am still working to correct all of this. I want nothing more than to help out the site in any way I can. Have I made mistakes? Absolutely. I'm human. We all are. I apologize for making mistakes, in fact. I know that's not enough, which is why I'm also working on my behavior every day. The thread feels weird because you seem to be implying that disrespect is an actual site policy, when the reality is that you may or may not have had one isolated incident with one member of the team, but since you refuse to disrespect their privacy by not posting salient information then we'll never know what actually happened. I think you might have misinterpreted the mod's intentions. I seriously doubt anyone on the team would just PM you insults unprompted. There could be some further context to this. Maybe it was prompted by your behavior in a public thread? Even you admit you're problematic of a poster at times, it wouldn't be unlikely. Are we, as a team, perfect? No. Have we treated people with disrespect? I'm sure we have. We all have our own flaws, for sure. But the point I'm trying to make here is that for someone to logically bring up an argument that we, as a moderation team, are being too hostile towards people, then there has to be accurate evidence for it. If you were truly trying to be reasonable and they kept insulting you, then sure, you have a point here. But that point is that one member of the team needs to treat you better specifically, not that we're all treating everyone bad. This isn't an issue of site policy being wrong, this is an isolated incident, someone acting on their own in one particular case. We're not all like this all the time. Your problem is with the person you were supposedly PMing. It's not the forum's problem with the entire staff, which is what you seem to want it to be. Warp, allow me to be blunt: I don't think the mod team is the problem here. I think you're the one who's contributing more to your problem than any of us are. If you change your attitude and apologize for your actions, both past and present, I'm entirely certain you'll find that people will treat you better. If you stop accusing us of these things, if you stop calling us assholes and dictators and weak-minded idiots, if you start gaining self-awareness and figure out that you might be the reason you're not being treated the way you want, then you'll have a much better time here. For example, there's your comment to me from July, that I brought up earlier in the thread:
Warp wrote:
Congratulations Samsara, you turned a thread made in remembrance of a great person into a pile of trash by acting like a complete asshole. I hope you are happy about yourself and your perceived higher moral ground.
This is something you said, Warp. This is something you said to me in a thread where I was trying to stay reasonable and respectful toward you the entire time while letting you know that you, yourself were doing something disrespectful, something that could have put off a lot of people. And then you turn it around on me, as if I were the problem all along for trying to keep things on-topic and respectful. That's something you did, and yet you claim you're not the one disrespecting anyone. This is just a single example. I could easily provide more, and I'm sure quite a few others can as well. If you keep acting like this, then we can't take this thread seriously. It's the pot calling the kettle black: Someone with a history of aggressive, hostile comments toward other users accusing the mod team of making aggressive, hostile comments toward them. You even admit that your behavior isn't the best. So why not change it? Why not make the effort to turn yourself around and understand people? I was able to do it, and while I may not be completely turned around yet, I'm certainly much better than I used to be. Like I said, maybe if you do work to improve yourself, you'll start seeing this topic differently. But if not, at least wait until you have other examples, specifically public ones. One person does not speak for the rest of the team. As a team, we speak for the site, but as individuals, we speak for ourselves. For anyone else reading this, if you feel like we're being unreasonable as a mod team, please PM the person in particular about it and bring it up in a respectful manner to them, and we will respond in kind and most likely apologize, or at least respectfully explain our decision so we can come to a mutual understanding. Now I need to stop re-writing this post, as it's been literally 4 hours since I started.

It is seriously ironic that you're saying this considering how you've been acting on the forums, yourself. Have you ever considered that the things you say here aren't exactly putting you in good favor with anyone on the site? Are you capable of taking responsibility for your words and realizing that, just maybe, you might be the problem? What I quoted was perfectly reasonable of me to do. You're not treating us with any respect. Is there any need for us to continue treating you with respect? Would that make you stop calling us assholes and dictators, or are you just going to claim that and never put it into practice?

Shouldn't this thread be moved to general or something? It's in topic, isn't it?
If the topic were about comparing TASing/TASers from a decade ago to TASing/TASers of today, that would be more suited to General. Warp's post actually brings it the closest to General. I guess if people continue following that discussion, I can re-title the thread and move it back to General to live as a legitimate discussion thread.

[3021] DS Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions by arandomgameTASer in 26:15.10 [3034] DS Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions "all items" by arandomgameTASer in 34:20.91 The game lends itself beautifully to TASing, all the movement looks fast and slick and there's a clear, growing speed progression throughout both runs that keeps them fresh all throughout. Easily two of the best DS runs we've had all year. I'm suggesting both because they're both great, but I'm definitely leaning toward "all items" as the one I'd back to get Starred, as it has a lot more neat tricks, optimization, and even a fairly large sequence break.

Hey, the year's almost over, I should probably post an update to this run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyqH1buvHcM I had a hell of a time with Stage 2 last month, then I took a long break, then when I got back to work I remembered I started the run on the Performance core, so I had to resync the run on Compatibility (thankfully only less than a minute was lost), and now finally here's... a quick, unfinished Stage 3 test with Blue. I'll encode/upload Stage 2 in HD eventually, right now I'm just happy I'm not using Green anymore. So here's where I start testing which combination of forms is faster for Stages 3-5. I'm testing Blue for 3/4 and Red for 5 first. The times should be fairly even, as both forms have advantages that can make them equally fast. I'm betting on Blue first being faster in the end, but naturally I'm still going to test both just to make sure.

As far as I'm concerned, Red and Yellow are different enough to warrant this being a separate publication from the Pi run. Also, as for the run itself, I had to vote No on entertainment. While it was a novel concept and awesome to watch at AGDQ, there's unfortunately nothing that can be done now to recreate what actually happened. As it stands now, this is just total control-ing to an article that goes by way too fast to read even when pausing. This version (perhaps a version that doesn't write the text so quickly) would be perfect for the actual article it's being attached to, but in my opinion it needs to actually show off some of the unique features shown at AGDQ for it to be publish-worthy, even if they're just facsimiles. I guess that's what the updated file is for, though, so I'm awaiting that.

Once again followed this from beginning to end, and once again it's a hell of a ride. Much smoother looking and more entertaining than the any% run. Yes vote all the way.

No rules against it at all. Multi-post and thread bump to your heart's content. Don't be discouraged by the lack of feedback! Game threads usually don't get much attention, even for some of the more popular games out there. That doesn't mean no one cares, it just means that most of the feedback will come with the actual submission. I can take a look at the file tomorrow, when I have a bit more time.

When working on an Atari 2600 game, painting or removing input upward always results in: As far as I've tested, this only happens with Atari 2600 games.

Did some more testing yesterday and I might as well publicize this in case anyone actually gives a crap: Value 0x40 is speed, confirmed this by setting it to 252 very early on in the race and getting an impossibly low time. The earliest frame I've seen max speed reached is at frame 449... But even if max speed is reached at 449 in multiple tests, the finishing time is not always consistent. I've gotten between 5.61 and 5.67 just by messing around with the prior input, and both Scepheo and DwainiumB got 5.57 under the same circumstances with different sets of input. So the goal here isn't entirely to reach max speed as soon as possible: Speed stays the same for an extra 2 frames when shifting, so it looks like the goal is actually to shift as late as possible while still maintaining a steady speed increase, freezing your speed at the highest possible value but avoiding the speed plateau that occurs when you need to shift. The best way to bot this would be to find a distance value, which should be easy and run the bot until it maximizes both distance and speed by at least frame 449, assuming an optimal start. I played around with Basic Bot when it came out but couldn't get it to produce anything (likely because I'm not using it right), and I'd have absolutely no idea how to code a Dragster-specific bot. So... yeah. There were also talks that A2600 emulation in BizHawk could be contributing to our inability to match the WR time, but I'm nowhere near qualified to even give my thoughts on whether or not that could be true.

I know it's technically my run and that me vouching for it is Combatribes level of self-indulgence, but here I am anyway since it was a solid collaboration and I feel like I haven't praised my partners enough for what they did. Taking myself out of the picture here, ars4326 and dekutony did some absolutely excellent work with routing each stage, testing every possible path (and there are many in later stages) and giving me really tightly planned (and even optimized) files to work with. Both ars and dekutony were out of their element in TASing this and they pulled through magnificently and made the final file as great as it could be. Had I done it alone, I doubt it would've even come close to being considered for a Star, and I have old WIPs to prove that. Also, since the suggestions were posted, Splatterhouse went up to an 8.1 average... I'm a little surprised.

You're forgetting the rule that the majority of the audience has to find it entertaining and worthy of a spot on the site, as this category doesn't qualify for Vault. There are a large number of runs that fit your definition, but still wouldn't make it onto the site because they fail the entertainment rule.

Since people are going to ask: This is actually a ~12 second improvement to the published run. This movie's framecount: 98476 Published run's framecount: 99181 The published run's real time should be 27:52.73.

To be more specific: Loading times don't matter when judging, only gameplay. We've published movies that are slower overall due to longer loading times/more lag, but are faster than previous runs due to better gameplay. So while we may compare the gameplay portions of a run to other speedruns/TASes of a game (including different versions), we won't compare loading times as that can't be controlled by the player.

There's no appeal in living alone. I would rather have and lose a thousand friends before I die than spend the rest of my life in solitude. I'm at least a fifth of the way there by now, I might as well go all the way. Perhaps this is a cynical viewpoint, but there is no worth in someone who plays you for a fool and leaves you to wither away by yourself. Sever ties, move on. She's not worth loving, but others are. You just have to find the diamonds in the rough, no matter how long it takes and no matter how many tries it takes. Eternal solitude is something you bring to yourself, it is not forced upon you by the world. You choose to stay alone, whether intentionally or without realizing it. "But what of the people who've left me behind?" Fuck them. Anyone who leaves you was never worth having as a friend in the first place. They're not worth the effort of hating them. They're not even worth the effort of thinking about them. You may be left with no one in the world at some point, but there will always be someone out there waiting to find you, and I can say this with certainty as I have been in this situation myself. I've been abandoned, left in the dust by people who wanted nothing more to do with me, and yet here I am, having found a new place to call home, able to live (mostly) happily and love someone more than I've ever loved before. I've lost count of how many times this has happened to me, and subsequently I've lost count of how many times I've come out of it alive and well. Life is worth living because there is so much of it to live. There are endless opportunities, endless possibilities, a million potential friends and lovers you can meet at any time. One may have failed you, but she was merely just an option in a boundless sea of choices. If you can't find someone, someone will find you, and that's something I can guarantee.

The only thing that's prevented us from accepting MAME-rr TASes was the fact that nobody was making/finishing them, so if this one is high quality (and if it syncs for other people) then we can definitely start taking steps to implement MAME-rr into the submission parser.
