Verifying the fixed file right now. WarHippy, are you okay with Spikestuff being added as co-author? I can do that alongside the replacement with your permission.

No need to cancel. I'll verify that the new run syncs and replace the file when I wake up.

It's the Off-Topic part of the forum, and it involves a member of the community at large. I agree that it shouldn't be newsworthy (it should just be automatically accepted), but there's definitely a place to discuss it. Obviously we can only discuss Narcissa for so long before the main topic dies (well-deserved praise can only go so far), but there's absolutely a discussion to be had regarding transgender culture in general. Perhaps some "closeted" members could be inspired to come out after seeing positive discussion such as this. Maybe some of the outspoken members can discuss their own experiences and help others to understand them better. There's a lot of good that can come from this, I feel.

It's a little better, but I still don't think it's publishable. Fighting game playarounds, especially those with just a single character*, have to be absolutely exceptional to be published here, something that impresses both the hardcore fighting game fans and entertains casual viewers. Just attacking with the same few moves over and over again and having nearly the same ending to every fight doesn't really scream "entertainment" to me. *This does not apply to characters who can copy other fighters, like Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat or Mokujin in Tekken. These characters are always preferred in playarounds due to inherently having the most variety. Maybe do some research on the game before diving right into it? There could be documented glitches or other playaround TASes or combo videos that you can learn things from. It's okay to do things on your own sometimes, but in cases like this it's definitely preferable to gain some knowledge about the game... Even watching other fighting game playarounds can help with capturing the overall feel of what's acceptable on the site. This is probably required watching for the gold standard of what a fighting game playaround should look like in the best case: [1955] SNES Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 "playaround" by SDR, Thevlackdemonn2294 & Dark Noob in 30:28.38 Sure, it isn't directly comparable since they're two different games, but as I said earlier it's the overall feel of the run that makes it stand out. Things as simple as playing around with the AI can make the movie a lot more entertaining: Draw them out, catch them in loops, bait them into doing supers and dance around them. Perform infinite combos even if damage starts to die out early. Use frame precise input to combo together moves that were never meant to be used in combos. You can do anything you want as long as it's stylish. Keep surprising the viewers in each fight, don't play all your cards in the first match and leave them with nothing to look forward to. Are there any glitches? Use those extensively, save the ridiculous ones for late in the run to have maximum (second) impact. Actually, here's a better example of what you should be striving for: Link to video Again, different game, but the overall feel is what's important. I'm glad you at least posted before submitting this time. Hopefully some other people can chime in and give better advice than I can. This does look more optimized than your prior submissions, so don't be discouraged by the criticism: It took SDR quite a while to warm up and start creating great fighting game playarounds for the site too, and now he's probably the most respected person creating them around here, so even rough starts can turn into incredible careers.

Yep, going for True Ending. I tried going back and improving the spider miniboss, and I managed to improve it by over half a second, but it ends up not saving any time in the end due to the worm's global timer. I'd have to find a serious improvement if I wanted to save any time before the worm, and I don't see that happening. However, I did improve the end boss of Stage 1 by around a second and a half with more careful shooting, which won't be lost at all as far as I'm aware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDmKXwc9A3s

A note on the patterns for the worm miniboss (and possibly a few other bosses/minibosses), his cycles are based on a global timer. So you could reasonably swag around for a small bit of time and still wind up with an equivalent time, so long as you get there right as he goes into his vulnerability phase.
I found this out while TASing it, and going straight in produces the fastest pattern for me. No instant vulnerability for quite a ways away, and the first one I found was actually just a frame slower than that pattern. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LpCQAt4QFA Centipede's a bit more of a pain in the ass. This is the best result I could get out of a number of attempts so far. The hit was intentional to manipulate it into the long spin pattern, and even then I have yet to test other patterns to see if they're better for a TAS. Green's normal shot, if timed and placed precisely, can actually do up to 5 damage per shot, compared to the charge shot's 12 damage max. The other two bosses in the level are much less mobile, so it should be a lot quicker to use nothing but normal shots against them both, but I'll have to test this extensively once I get there. In terms of the boss fights, I'm sure all of them except Bayer can be improved significantly, so I'm actually going to scrap everything from the spider onward and redo it with better fights. Apologies for the second embedded video, but here was my progress on Stage 2 before I redid the centipede. The above centipede fight is probably a total of 70-80 frames faster than this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-tvfcFBSTk EDIT: Unembedding videos as I post new ones.

I don't strongly object, however I'm mildly opposed to the idea of just obsoleting it with an already published movie. I'd rather wait for a new 1P movie to obsolete it rather than just quietly setting it to obsoleted (I can already see Alyosha submitting it actually), but if it does happen this way I'm not going to complain about it. So I guess I've rendered my own opinion irrelevant. Way to go, me. Has this happened in the past? I'm curious, now.

I'm always really glad to see things like this! It warms my heart to not only see people having the courage and self-confidence to go ahead with a transition, but to see other people accepting who they are without questioning them. It's also particularly great to have a well-known and liked "role model" of sorts within the community to encourage other people to step up and reveal who they truly are without fear of backlash. I'm still a bit afraid of the overall response to her transition, as I know speedrun fans back in the day weren't exactly too fond of Withhelde, but I'm going to remain casually optimistic if only to prevent anxiety attacks. Thanks for reporting. Though it's probably not a good idea to keep referring to Narcissa as male or hope she comes back to OoT "as Cosmo"... but I understand that these most likely weren't intentional. I hope Narcissa's transition inspires other people to "come out" as it were... Keeping your real identity locked away is absolutely draining and mentally damaging. I should know, I'd been doing it for years before becoming more open and public about it. More importantly, though, I hope that someday this won't be ground-shattering news: That someday, an equally "famous" person is going to come out in the same way and everyone will just immediately accept it without thinking it's abnormal or newsworthy. I guess it's obvious that this is pretty personal/important to me, and I'm sorry if it feels like I'm bringing attention onto myself with this post, but... Still. It might not mean much to say this, but if you're reading this: Thank you, Narcissa. And thank you to everyone who's been supportive of her so far. I'm still not fully able to accept myself, but stories like this and especially the positive reactions to them are extremely helpful to me. ...Yeah, this ended up a little too self-centered. I'm sorry about that, again. Best of luck to you, Narcissa.

The main concerns brought up in IRC were with the tank section: * Could you shoot those walls that block your way earlier? * There's a part where you jump for seemingly no reason and it looks like it slows you down. Can that be avoided? * Seems like you can jump earlier to clear those walls, though looking back through the thread I can see there's a fairly long delay between shooting a missile and being able to jump, so it might be due to that. * How often do the walls accept hits? Do they only need to be hit once before they drop or do they need to be hit multiple times? Rapid-firing might not be optimal there if they only take one hit per drop.

There's nothing "bad" about submitting runs like these, and behavior like that just drives away people that could be taking the rest of the thread's advice. If you want him to post on the forums, make him feel welcomed. Don't tell him to stop submitting, give him an alternative instead. Good behavior goes a long way, here. Lars_Hendrick, I apologize for the less-than-ideal responses in this thread, but I urge you to listen to the advice you're receiving for your next run. You may have your submission privilege revoked if you continually submit sub-optimal runs like these without showing any signs of improvement. I offered some advice in my judgement of your previous run that should help you get started in the meantime. Best of luck to you once again!

For anyone interested and too lazy to check the published run, here are Sami's in-game times, followed by the current times of this TAS: MM - 5:08 (4:21, 47 seconds faster) TTC - 7:01 (6:15, 46 seconds faster) CC - 8:45 (7:54, 51 seconds faster) BS - 12:23 (11:43, 40 seconds faster) GV - 10:03 (9:31, 32 seconds faster) MMM - 9:22 (8:28, 54 seconds faster) Rest of Sami's times for future comparison: FP - 12:04 RBB - 9:37 CCW - 18:04

Hey look, the foundation of a Lua HUD. I've only barely started learning LuaHawk so it could be way better. Not releasing it right now because it's basic stuff that anyone can do <_< Current features: * Every RAM address listed on the Game Resources page * Visual invulnerability indicator: Blue when vulnerable, white when invulnerable Things I'd love to add in the future: * Updated versions of rhebus' drop scripts (if I can get my hands on them) * Proper hitboxes for Soma and enemies and not just a dumb indicator box above Soma's head * Actual scripting skill instead of my haphazard crap. Craphazard. Oh my goooooooo- * More information that's better placed. Possibly an actual UI? Any help/advice/suggestions would be much appreciated. EDIT:

My question was on-topic, your response guided it back off-topic. If you have anything further to say about your topic, there are other threads for it, including one that was linked not a few posts earlier that you've posted this very same idea in before. I didn't want this thread to turn into yet another "change the site" discussion, I merely wanted to try to give some Vaulted movies a little more exposure, maybe get people to actually notice them and discuss them and see which ones could use a bit of a promotion. Can we please keep it that way from now on?

There actually is some kind of a consensus in this thread, between those who support this proposed system, I even posted pseudocode of how would judgment work, and how well the old submisison question would fit. It just never was really considered by anyone capable of applying these changes.
I believe it was considered, but unable to be handled at the moment. It would require a lot of time and effort and site restructuring and it's still likely that people aren't going to be receptive to the change. I still support it 100%, but I understand any and all hesitation over actually putting it in place. EDIT: Why did I even say I supported this idea, what the hell, me
