This improvement is brilliant! I definitely enjoyed watching these runs as they progressed (first the unassisted on amiga, then the speed run here) and this was no exception. Yes vote. Also, a vote for some of the creepiest SNES music ever. Another edit: I don't know why I said "amiga" in there. There was another unassisted video out there someone did with a VHS, and I thought it was amiga for some reason. That one turned out to be "another world" instead. My bad.

People who have not been following these speed runs since the >5 minute original would be really lost right now... (Actually, this one inspired me to go check previous runs I have not seen. There were really supposed to be objects on screen in the cornfield, no wonder it looks so empty now)

I think the speed run should be done in Japanese. However, I'm going to keep the English one. The only reason I'd keep the Japanese one is to watch the game played its fastest. I'd keep the English one because it's much more entertaining and I can follow the dialog (despite having played through the game many times) Just my two cents. It is, after all, a poll on whether or not the movie was entertaining that gets it published, right?

Haha, yeah. What's with that filename? Watching it now. The new tricks are sexy. I about shat myself with that spring trick. In Vacant Ghost House, save 25 frames, get 25 stars :) Pipe World 4 was amazing, both in technicality at low speed and entertainment at full speed. And you shaved off many, many frames while doing so. Congratulations on the improvement. Definite 'yes' vote from me. Respect to JXQ and associates for the previous.

I thought it was pretty good. Though the mini-circles at the starting line on some tracks was a tad boring, they can't be avoided if you are going for the fastest time. It was more enjoyable than I'd thought, though.

Just watched it. The game was amazing back when I used to play it all the time when I owned a working Genesis. It's even more awesome watching the game get owned. The run itself was executed very well. Yes vote here. I'd also like to add that it didn't desync in gens_movie_9j.

I think there was a desync in there somewhere. Either that or it took you 3 minutes to lose to Bear Hugger. :P Going to watch again. Edit: found out the reason. 1.51 desyncs. 1.502 does not. I thought the second one was the one I was downloading from the link. Apparently not.

Even if it was slower, I'd still rather watch the game done in (U). Being able to read the dialog as the game's being flown through is nice and actually keeps me watching. Otherwise it's like this endless river of Kanji that I don't feel like watching anymore because the dialog is the main part of the game, after all.

Fuck that. A good movie doesn't mean fast as possible. And it's clearly stated in guidelines and such.
It's not that he did it faster. It's how he did it faster that everyone's clamoring about. The manner in which he did it faster is entertaining in its own right.

This was the first game I owned on the GBA. (And the only one I bought before I had a GBA, to be honest.) It's a hot RPG, I'll say that much. The sequel was nothing short of spectacular as well, showing another side of the story. I'd really like to see progress on this one. Played through it 3 times, my fastest time being 24 hours played time. I wonder how it would go down in just a couple hours...

So is this a level-by-level process to discover the best shortcuts and techniques? And has anyone started from square 1 as of yet?

This guy has lots of IPS patches to remove intros and the like. http://arcvoreppin.free.fr/ips/#_0585 Use GBA Tool Advance to patch the rom you have. First look at the CRC32 and verify with the patches on the site. You will then have the correct rom used in the run.

I watched about half of this video so far (will watch the second half when I get home -- it's paused atm.) Haven't ever played this game, but it's certainly interesting! At least this game has timed dialog so fast readers like myself can pick up on the story as it progresses. I have a question regarding what I've seen so far, though. There's the destroyed town that you entered, then left. Is this required to trigger something else?

That boy needs therapy But seriously, I enjoyed every second of it. I'm not a TASer, so it's not like I can give you a critical analysis like all these other guys can. But I do like to watch these for entertainment. Gonna go back and watch this baby at a slower speed :) Once again, thank you for your contributions, as well as to the others who'd helped you achieve this significant improvement. (To me, shaving off over 10 seconds from a game that doesn't take a very long time to beat is significant in itself.)

This movie isn't as amazing on the entertainment level as it is on the technical level. </twocents>

I really liked how, not even 30 seconds into the game, before you're even supposed to be allowed to begin the level, you bug the graphics. That's a good foreshadow of what's to come :D

Oops. Haha, and I about lost that beverage too. But I enjoyed every minute of it. Twice. I owe the carbonated expulsion to the stunt Carnival Zone (which was then used again multiple times later, most notably in Ice Cap) Star kthx.

Wicked sick. I've been showing off the old run to all my friends, but now there's one that chops ~2 minutes... I've been living a lie! Voted yes, btw. And keep it up! Sonic games are by far my favorite simply because of the high framerates and sheer SPEED of the games. Speed + Fluid Motion = WIN.

Still waiting on a working video playback before voting. I really don't want to have to settle for an AVI :(

I just checked out the workbench and found a FFIII video. Awesome! I watched it and I was going to post, but looked up at where the thread was and it said Published Movies... hmm, apparently it was published while I was watching it :) I'm no expert on TAS, I watch them merely for entertainment value. Having played FFIII for hours on end, this was certainly an enjoyable watch. Knowing the story of the game definitely adds flavor to the TAS, so if you haven't played the game before you probably won't recieve the same level of entertainment. (that probably goes for all the RPGs and a few other games) There were some things done in this video that I never even really knew about. Like Vanish+Snare, that was cool. And the sketch bug wasn't used this run. But you probably didn't need it anyway. On an unrelated note, the song in the FFIII soundtrack from Zophar called "Celes" really grabs me. The soundtrack to this game is by far my favorite of all the ones available there. (Chrono Trigger and Star Ocean are really good too.)

Because it's like the The Legend of Zelda ALTTP glitched run. The non wall glitched ALTTP could of probably used that wall glitch in other places but why bother when you can just beat the game at the start with it. Hence why there are seperate runs. This plays the game like you normally would minus having to collect all the Cards.
That's a good point. I prefer entertainment value over speed (although in the Sonic games, one correlates to the other) And that reminds me... The one "Zelda: Link's Awakening" run that just uses the map glitch hasn't been opened in my emulator since I first watched it. However, I've went back to watch Chrono Trigger a few times, and I've shown off the SMB w/warps to my friends because there's *substance* in them. At any rate, I vote yes to this video, having watched it twice (and enjoying it no less the second time.)

I really like how both runs are going. Even though the goal of this site is to have the fastest run ever, I'd still like to get finished runs from both Erim and Catastrophe in the end, regardless of whose is faster. Great to know that both of you are sharing your knowledge base on the game to generate a better run for everyone in the end.
