Funny, I never knew (but am not surprised) that the same music was used in both this game (Stage 20 Boss) and Gunstar Heroes (Seven Force). I give this a Meh. Overall it looks pretty good, but some of the boss fights seem like the order of attacking with your weapons and your Phoenix Attack could be done differently to save some time, from what I see. But I'm no expert at this game, mind you.

This is one epic improvement. Not sure if we'll see this improved again. Though, I've now said this 3 times, at this point it really does seem perfect. I can't believe that we're 1 frame short of improving level 1-1 by 21 frames. And it's like impossible to improve it. I really doubt anyone will ever save that frame and improve this TAS either. Congrats klmz on a "perfect" TAS.
No TAS is ever perfect. We've said that about Rockman 1 HOW many times? And it got improved pretty much each and every time.

I tought JUST THE GIRLS counted for 100%, not only stage completion
Percentage calculation for the original game is as follows: # Maiden Saved: 2% # Level Cleared: 4%* # Boss Cleared: 4%* *Exceptions: Stage 0's battle with Death is not a boss fight. Stage 6 only gives you 4%, as well as Stage 8, since there are only bosses and boss rooms, but no level. Funny thing about Choice #3 is that it would work if you were doing the PSP version. Stage 5' is available on the remake after beating Death.
And... is there any other playable character? It would make the run less redundant.
Nope. There's only Richter and Maria. The other ladies are too weak to contribute.

No. You couldn't enter vertical pipes that way and thus couldn't complete the game either.

I just thought I'd make you aware in case you already haven't figured it out that the levers need to be pulled on both sides of those tunnel areas (like from Area 5 to Area 8). Those count towards 100%. Can't wait to see a finished product!

I wonder if it would be more entertaining to do a silly 2P run, with well conceived traps, both foiling and falling for them. It could be kinda humerous. *snicker*

Yeah, we know about the L+R side effects - Bisqwit did that in his attempts a few years back. The problem with this game was that my run wasn't rejected for being slow, but boring.

I tried doing an AVI encode, but for some reason the video desynced when I tried recording (died at the boss at the end of stage 4). I might try again a little later, if I had a full-quality AVI, adding a 64-pixel split would be dead easy. EDIT: Looks like it's already under way. I'll hold off.
I could pass you my initial encode, but I'm sure doing a 6-7GB file (well, a 4 part file divided in 2GB chunks) would take a while. But if that's what it takes, then that's what it takes. Let me know if you want to go that route.

One thing I thought was weird is that despite being an arcade release from Asia, it uses the US naming style for Balrog, Vega, and M.Bison. Huh.

I'm personally against that, because there are legit n00bs who haven't posted yet want to submit something that is good. Yes, generally most people would post around here a bit, but you don't HAVE to. Personally, I think the most fair way is that new members are moderated, and once they're established, unless they go ape-shit, they're free to submit anything. I feel this is the best protected yet most fair method of dealing with submissions.

Couldn't you make it x per day per IP?
That's even less sensible, since dial-up users can simply disconnect, reconnect, and get a new IP. Even cable/dsl users can change their IP address, since they have a pool of them. Not to mention proxies.

I think honestly the best notion is to moderate anybody that's not established, then have the judges or a special moderation only judge either confirm that they're not joke/troll submissions, or quietly kill them before anybody sees them. The whole "x per day" or "x per week" is a dumb idea, especially since some of them are making dupe accounts to do it.

That's more out of my league then the video thing. And I would have a tough time with that!

Enough expository banter. It's time we fight like men. And ladies. And ladies who dress like men.

Try checking the ROM folder, cause it defaults to there.

It never used to be a problem, until recently. I think we're just popular enough now to be disliked.

The emulator doesn't record the video split even if it's turned on in the emulator settings, so whoever does do the encode will have to do the 64px split manually.

I haven't tried it with encoding yet. I'll give it a try later, if somebody hasn't already tried it themselves.

When will they fix the DS emulator so that there is a space between the 2 screens? I don't even want to imagine seeing Yoshi's Island 2 without it.
There's an option to do that already. View -> Screen Separation

Click the pic for an encode. Download from Megaupload: 128MB MP4 (No overlay text, but a boring intro/outro text is there. Not good enough to be posted here, though. And no, I didn't split the screens.)

Practically the only run that people seriously suggested be unpublished was Guanobowl's Ocarina run for being slower than the current unassisted record.
What? Were these people serious? That like unpublishing the SMB TAS because a new timesaver has been discovered... Unpublishing a run because it can be improved is way more rediculous than unpublishing something because it's not entertaining.
It was not being suggested for unpublication because it was not optimal. That had nothing to do with it. It was suggested for unpublication because there was a regular speedrun which was faster. A TAS which aims for maximum speed and does not beat a regular speedrun is not only against the rules, it's also shameful. It's a laughing stock.
So in that case, we should unpublish the ActRaiser run, since my speed run beats it, despite the fact that it took nearly 3 years to do so.

Question: Why do you not hit the boss as much as possible on Stage 5 (that fish boss)? It seems like you could do more damage to him then you do. Explanation?

Bleh. Program crashed for me about the time the ask for Disc 2 screen would come up. I'm using the drive loader as opposed to the ISO loader, running the game from Daemon. I'm gonna try the ISO loader to see if I get better results. But then again, my computer has been sucking lately, so it certainly could just be my computer sucking. BTW, the ISO loader does have a typo when it's compressed successfully. Edit: ISO loader does the same. So it's probably my sucky computer. :(
