I thought it seemed shorter in the speedrun and was wondering how to cancel it. Though I wonder if Hydrostorming would be faster for that boss too. There is a Holy Water right before the magic door.

BitFS battle made me go OMFG. Brilliant. Though the bug at the video end makes me sad. :(

Here's what I used: Graphics: PEOPS 1.18 Sound: Works with PEOPS 1.9 and null Controller: N-Rage 0.95 (both) CDROM: PEOPS 1.4 BIOS: SCPH-1001 Also make sure you load the right memcards in the right locations, as that causes desyncs too.

No kidding. Especially with glitches like that air jump (after Blade Dash), and the occasional lag frame thrown in here and there. I know your attempt is faster then me, but I'll do some real comparisons later. Right now I'm just getting started and used to things. WIP6, at the door before the CD loading room leading to the Inverse Arena. SOTN w/ Richter, WIP6 (Movie and Memcards in 1 7z.) WIP7, at the door before the CD loading room leading to the Clock Room. SOTN w/ Richter, WIP7 (Movie and Memcards in 1 7z.) Just about done with v1. I don't think I'm doing too bad for a n00b. :P --- w00t! v1 done. I stopped the video after the castle crashing scene is skipped and Richter stares out in his ending. Now it's just a matter of going back through, figuring out how to improve, and doing so. It's been a fun couple of days working on this. SOTN w/ Richter, v1 FINAL (Movie and Memcards in 1 7z.) Final Hit on Shaft: 23286 (6:28) Final Input: 24061 (6:41) Comments and constructive criticism is welcome.

The movie will always play properly with null and PEOPS sound plugins. Eternal will occasionally play the movie properly, but will usually desync in the area where I blade dash over the large rock.

Whether or not you choose to release any WIPs, that's your decision. I would like to see some, if nothing else, to see how well I'm doing. I choose to release them right now because I'm still a young TASer (especially to games with more then 4 buttons and a d-pad :P ), so I'd like to get advice. WIP5, at the door before the CD loading room leading to the Inverse Royal Chapel. SOTN w/ Richter, WIP5 (Movie and Memcards in 1 7z.)

Oops, fixed the link in my post. Changed too many 1s to 2s. :P I've got WIP3 complete, just need to upload. I'm through Hippograph (damn 1000 Blades is a LOOOONG attack) and at the door to the next CD room. I did make a minor change in WIP2 which you'll see in WIP3. I changed my jumping scheme in the long corridor just to the right of the magic door leading to the Royal Chapel. Saved a few frames there. Also changed the hallway where the magic door is in, saving a few more frames. Edit: WIP 3 uploaded. SOTN w/ Richter, WIP3 --- I'm at just under 3.5 minutes and have arrived at the Inverted Castle. Now to get through Medusa, the Inverted Royal Chapel, Inverted Arena, get to the Inverted Clock Room, then fight Shaft. I've got Holy Water, and 30+ hearts, so I should be just fine. :) For a first run through, it's looking good. I'm sure there's a few frames here and there that can be shaved, of course. But I'm proud of this first effort. :) SOTN w/ Richter, WIP4

I decided to try my hand a little bit at SOTN, with Richter. Currently I'm at the door leading to the first CD loading room (just before the alchemy lab). I've included the memcards needed to make the video run properly. Make sure you load the one labeled MC1 in memory card slot 1, and MC2 in memory card slot 2 (the latter contains the data needed to load Richter. The former is simply a blank card). I'm learning about how to properly control Richter, and ideas and comments are appreciated. Just don't rip me too bad, I'm still new at this. :P SOTN w/ Richter, WIP1 (Movie and Memcards in 1 7z.) Edit: Played a little more, throwing up a 2nd WIP. WIP2, at the door before the CD loading room leading to the Royal Chapel. SOTN w/ Richter, WIP2 (Movie and Memcards in 1 7z.)

Yes. Getting an S rank in an area takes you to a room that contains the special items (Heart Tank, armor upgrade, 1-UP) while A rank or less rooms contain nothing at all.

I like the new system, however, can we fix the space between items? Because even on 1024x768 resolution, it wraps around and looks kinda ugly.

Question. When it comes to the shielded rollers near the end of part 1, why did you attack the one and damage boost through the other? Why not damage boost through both, or attack both? Just curious.

It'll be a bit before a new WIP shows up. I'm starting over for a couple of reasons: 1. The new PCSX version uses a new movie format. 2. #1 gives me a good reason to start over to fix the desync issues when using anything other then Eternal's sound plugin. This was likely caused by me using it solely instead of null, which I couldn't get to work for some reason initially. I can now, so I'm gonna start over, and test null, peops, and eternal plugins. Currently back through Retro 1, same times. ...*BLEEP* Now it syncs through Retro 2 with Null/peops, but desyncs with Eternal. I guess I'm not gonna win here. (With Eternal I die going for the last one, orange, but I can tell it desyncs much earlier then that, because the gator is in a different position going for the first one, blue). Oh well. Video up of v2 WIP2 for those that want to see. I'm having a hell of a time with Retro 3...getting AWFUL position layout. :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=732fraBwHxA

How could you do it with Rush Jet in other MM games? Cause that's really the only way how.

To me, only a couple levels have too much spikes. Jewel Man stage is one, and the Wily-something that has an underwater part and breakable blocks. Yes. Too many spikes there. But other parts, I don't mind.
Wily 2 has one jump in that underwater section that's seriously unfair, and Jewel Man has one that's kinda unfair (but not as bad as Wily 2), but most everything else is fine.

The game may not be quite as fast paced or exciting as the NES Ninja Gaidens, but the game is still tough, the music is still great to listen to (even though it's on GB!), and the game was still decimated by a great TASer. Good work. Voting YES by the old system. :P

No kidding. But I'm having fun doing a single session speed run, which I'm sure half of those losers online couldn't do. :P 0:32:30, no continues. I know better is possible, but this is a good start.

Got it, love it, am getting my ass kicked by it. :) Well, partial boss order: Splash Woman -> Concrete Man (Yeah, I know. Not much. But L. Trident on Concrete Man? Who'da thunk?)

Question. How does rerecording work with multi-disc games? Do you start a new file at the disc change with the check box unmarked? I'm curious because I've considered doing Parasite Eve, but it's a 2CD game.

I did make a mistake in that I should progress though levels with X (when able to) instead of using T. It saves about 80-90 frames (give or take a few). Fortunately, I'm not too far so I don't have much to redo. I'm also gonna look through Retro 1 again to see if I can make it a little faster. Better to do it now before I get too far in, right? Edit: Yep, managed to improve Retro 1 by 4 seconds (1s on green, 1s on brown, 2s on purple.) New WIP up, complete through Retro 5. Frogger no longer will play with traffic. :( Edit (09.22): One change from WIP8, is that I made an improvement for LP3 (purple), saving 1 second in-game time. You'll see it on the PSX file when I release WIP9.

Level 1-3 - Retro Level 3 (CLEARED - 7s, 6s, 6s, 6s, 7s = 32s) d. Level 1-4 - Retro Level 4 (CLEARED - 7s, 5s, 7s, 6s, 6s = 31s) e. Level 1-5 - Retro Level 5* (CLEARED - 8s, 9s, 4s, 8s, 6s = 35s) 2. Some of these levels are a nightmare on the console, so it'll be interesting to see how well I can TAS it. Current status: 01/33 levels cleared. Movie File: Old WIP was based upon PCSX v0.3 format. Currently redoing in the new movie format, and also redoing to fix the desync in the old movies in Retro 2. Times listed above were from the old movie and are currently here for my reference. WIP link removed until I get something good going again. Video Notice: Use Eternal SPU 1.41 for the best quality audio. I'd make an AVI, but I don't know how to make it with sound right now.

You'll need to use Eternal SPU plugin for now.
I had to pull that back out for use with Parasite Eve, because PEOPS sounds like crap. However since you mentioned it...
It seems to be a SPU IRQ issue like Metal Gear Solid, so maybe I can I find a workaround to make it work with other SPU plugins.
I do see that option in PEOPS sound plugin, so I'll check that out. But Eternals sound much better for PE anyways. And I'm not using Moody. I'm using PEOPS in PCSX. Edit: Tried it with the SPU IRQ box checked with PEOPS, doesn't work with Castlevania Chronicles. Oh well. Edit: Got Frogger to work. Same issue - use Eternal's plugin with SPU IRQ checked.
