I haven't had time to go back to it. Been too busy doing Super Mario Galaxy Uber challenges. I'm planning on checking it out some more later though.

I'd be willing to watch it. Just because I know how evil the game can be compared to the other ActRaiser.

This looks much better. I give this an enthusiastic YES vote.
I still think it should not obsolete the currently published run, but open a third (thanks Sir VG ^^) category.
You're welcome.

I was just re-re-watching this video...does the "bat spread" fired at the end of the second boss do damage? If so, that'd be an opportunity to speed up the bonus tally screen by a handful of frames. Edit: ditto with Death's scythe fling when he dies, though that might do enough damage to kill you.
Yes, the bat spread at the end does do damage. However, I think his life is cut down enough where it won't save time, since there is a set amount of time on the level cleared sequence anyways that it wouldn't save time. But it's worth trying anyways. The scythe fling, on the other hand, does NOT do damage (nor did it in Rondo of Blood).

I never really liked Gradius. If somebody's gonna do a space shooter for the SNES, Phalanx on Funny difficulty should be done instead, because it's absolutely insane to play at the level normally. Yes, it's mostly autoscroll, but anybody who's played it would probably enjoy somebody beating the game at that level.

GBA version don't have Bombs... =/ (or does have?)
I pulled my copy out, and indeed, no bombs (or 2nd weapon either).

I'm sure this is possible on a console, although it's probably very difficult to get the perfect timing of dying, fading the screen, and getting the 1-up. Go talk to Mike Uyama on this one, I'm sure he can make it happen if it's possible.
So for the bug to happen, all you need is an extra life at ANY moment during the fade-out or is it on an especific frame?
As far as my knowledge goes on the glitch, all you have to do is get the 1-up after you die. Wonder if it works on the GBA version too...

Very nice find and well executed, Dark Cloud. I second the idea, that it should not obsolete the currently published run (rather allow a third category).
Fixed. Have to remember that there's the normal game and a pacifist run as it is. Nice glitch. I'm sure though that the Stage 5 boss can be beaten faster than that though.

I decided to fool around with this a bit. My first attempt through stage 1 is a bit behind your last attempt (37 frames behind at the end of the 2nd area) but I know the comparisons of what I did and what you did. I'll use the goodies you've left behind Randil and give this another whirl.

Some aspects of the run are better than the published Air run (and I would vote yes on obsoleting Air with Air 2) but you get firecrackers at 2 levels, when you can easily manipulate and not get any. Voting MEH.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a bit picky about that. So don't worry, at least it's not you. Also appears that the screen scrolling glitch applies to stage 3. I guess that explains the odd spawn of the bone statue and the one wheel at about 46500 frames (they're much lower than the should be, probably cause I got to the door too fast. And also, to my knowledge, this is the first TAS of a Castlevania game that abuses death to save time. Though if there are others, feel free to point them out, cause I can't think of any others.

Hey now, why ya gotta hate on SotN? Just because it'll never be as awesome as Chi no Rondo is no reason to drag it through the mud. Besides, glitches are fun. Also, I really should finish that blasted Saturn version as Maria someday.
He's not dissing SOTN. He's dissing people who ONLY like SOTN. It is a good game, after all. Though frankly, I hate the new voice acting they put in the new PSP version. The translation sucks, the voice suck. Hell, Konami couldn't even do the English subbing for RoB right. Granted it was most likely ZRO LIMIT PRODUCTIONS' fault, but they should know better. They even misspelled stuff that they've only written for like, a decade, in every production that they do. You figure that would be like, cut and paste. Bleh. Enough rant. Yes vote for being faster. No vote for CVX>SCIV.

Mine is listed as a clean ROM according to the No-Intro set. Thus NESVideoAgent fails at life...twice. Once for creating a new name for the same ROM (I originally used the listing it gave my ROM last time), and once for making crappy screenshots. ^^;; I compared the bad dump, another site's "best" dump, and my ROM. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Filename: Castlevania - Legends (U) [S].gb ("Best" dump) System: Nintendo Game Boy ---------------------------------------------------------------- CRC32: AD9C17FB MD5: 1475824E 7262C0D6 359F43C2 87E034A5 SHA1: 91A8E49B F6EAC5FE 62EC2CC5 E6DECBD0 8CE9B515 ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Filename: Castlevania - Legends (U) [S][b2].gb (Bad dump) System: Nintendo Game Boy ---------------------------------------------------------------- CRC32: 43A9C0CA MD5: A85DE714 A1CA7810 714B4367 E3050BBA SHA1: 65D57057 B214CB82 1F38B499 080D8906 3A1B2A1D ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Filename: Castlevania Legends (USA, Europe).gb (Mine) System: Nintendo Game Boy ---------------------------------------------------------------- CRC32: AD9C17FB MD5: 1475824E 7262C0D6 359F43C2 87E034A5 SHA1: 91A8E49B F6EAC5FE 62EC2CC5 E6DECBD0 8CE9B515 ---------------------------------------------------------------- I'll let you interpret the results.

...Nitsuja skipped entire levels and screen wrapped/broke the game into smithereens. Sonic it is.

Which wmulator was used? I tried snes9x 1.43+v9, but it didn't work. By tha way, it would be interesting to include on the table of data (Console, Game Name, ROM Filename etc) the version of the emulator used, since some authors forget to tell it by the description.
That's what's needed. Make sure you have the good dump of the ROM and that you're not running a lot of other applications.

This is definitely worthy of a new post instead of just another edit. WIP5 completed I'm now through stage 3, and am 2,107 frames ahead of my cancelled run. To put things into perspective... v1 - v2 WIP5 (Time based on collection of souls) Stage 1: 21279 - 20922 (357 frames saved) Stage 2: 36921 - 36159 (762 frames saved) Stage 3: 51179 - 49072 (2107 frames saved) Stage 4: 66508 - 63177 (3331 frames saved) Stage 5: 75028 - 71173 (3855 frames saved) Stage 6: 85000 - 80389 (4611 frames saved) How was time saved in Stage 3? (aka how did I rip the game apart like that?) 1 - I switch to and use the Wind Soul in a few spots. 2 - Taking damage to save time...total abuse of this. And by abuse, I mean I'm down to 1 health and a couple spots I get through the section by mere frames. And as a note in regards to zggzdydp's post, I tried your suggestion, but it in the end cost me frames, because it left that soldier's position out too far. Edit: Added Stage 4 time in. Alucard got his ass handed to him. :) Edit 2: Added Stage 5 leading to the secret level. Sub-90000 frames is definite now. Edit 3: Cleared Stage 6 (aka "The Secret Level"). Now to just finish the game. :) Edit unteenmillion: I ran across a really freaken bizarre glitch in Stage 5 (2nd half). I was heading up the vertical section and grabbed the rope by the bulky knight. However, instead of just climbing the rope as usual, suddenly I went through a screen transition and was moved up the rope about a screen worth. While it worked for me on the 2nd time through the section, it isn't working for me on the first. Could be because of burning mode, but I'm not sure...I pull it off mostly, then die off the top of the screen when I get to where I need to. :( Edit (again): GOT IT. I modified my burning mode start point, then did some slight overjumps, and I got the screen transition to go nicely. Now to just go back through Stage 6 again. :( Edit (yet again!): Through Stage 6 again. The glitch saved me probably 350+ frames, though I lost a few in Stage 6 due to the enemies running on slightly different timing. Total saved: 366.
