As someone who hasn't been following the progress of OoT TASes, I'm not entirely sure what I just watched. The beginning of the game and the end of the game (In Japanese, no less!), along with a lot of glitches in between, I suppose. I have no conceivable idea how this could be any faster, so I feel obligated to vote yes.
Be glad that there weren't any TASes made in the time where directly warping to the credits was fastest. That was mind shattering insanity. :D

I thought the fact that temp flags are transfared was figured out by accident, with other wrong warps, wasn't it? I need a history lesson here. :D

Voting no, because of the 3 frames dropped at Mido-skip. Lazy bum! ;p

I did make 3 MST routes today. We'll see if somebody is going to use one of them. :D

Afaik nobody is at the moment. Swordless is too deep into Wind Waker (live speedrunning, not TASing). MTA is still working on his MQ MST TAS (yay the initialisms are off the chart), afaik. But I'm not sure how hard he is working on it and how far in he is...

I'm probably somewhat baised, but I do love the Ocarina of Time (both MST and any%) and Majora's Mask runs. They are of highly popular games and I think they are pretty mind blowing if you are not familiar with the glitches in them. Even if you are familiar with the glitches they are very entertaining, fun and on an excellent technical level. If this is meant for Newcomers Majora's Mask would probably be the best out of these games. It's not glitched to death like OoT any%, but still has the very straight foreward any% goal with some very impressive glitches and gameplay.

Nice. Makes me look foreward to the TAS and amazing encodes even more. :)

That should be good enough. I'll have on encode that splices together a bunch of different dumps with different patches on at different times. I'll have one base video without any patches, and just put them ontop of it, keeping the timing correct.
I hope you are leaving the storage room in Earth temple alone, even if you get a patch for the chest darkness. That room just looks way too awesome with Medly's eyes glowing in the dark. But such a patch would be really cool for cabana deed skip. Also there might be a way to make a mkv that has the unpatched video as a baseline and the patched part on top of that, depending on which chapter list is selected. That would probably be the optimal scenario.

I wonder when we'll see a proper Wind Waker run using that swim glitch?
I am slowly (but surely) working on it. I've been going so slowly because of the possibility of barrier skip http://zeldaspeedruns.com/tww/Miscellaneous/barrier-skip. I'll still finish the current TAS if it is found and give it some good goal, like all temples or something, but barrier skip really saps my motivation. Right now I am about 10 minutes into the any% TAS, I won't be releasing a WIP for a while, and idk how many I will release. I will not release WIPs too far into the game, just so it doesn't seem like everything has been seen already.
I was a big believer in barrier skip once, but by now I really doubt that it's going to happen. This game has been destroyed in the past year and we still aren't any closer. The barrier is just imba and Hyrule doesn't have anything that could help (doors, chests, swimable water). So I really don't think you have to worry about that.

The dtm has to be able to be played back without any patches. So as long as the patch doesn't cause any desyncing, when turned off during playback, it should be fine. Also for an encode this would be good and certainly allowed. There are lots of encodes on this site that use changed or extra visuals to make things clearer. Does this patch also prevent chests from turning the world dark or just doors, btw.?

I meant storing it somewhere else and then using it in pinnacle. Guess that does not work, huh? Anywho... if you could switch masks with the zora time stop glitch, could you also get out the ocarina?

Wouldn't Goron also end up in an infinite drown loop? I just saw a video a few days ago of somebody getting that in PF. He got caught with the goron mask and since PF respawns you in water he infinatly drowned. Since pinnacle has no land the same should happen, shouldn't it? Is there maybe some way to store SoS? That would help a lot.

Abahbob, couldn't you also super swim to the hosue nearest to FoF and do the dry storage and door sorage there, then just walk though that tree barriere? Wouldn't that be faster?

But what we're getting at, I think, is that if this run were performed on a console, the moment Link disappeared beneath the house, the screen would be completely black and all we'd have to gauge progress is sound, until the transition to FoF was made. Is that accurate?
yes, except the darkness starts sligthly before Link falls through the floor. But basically console runners can do this and have done this. I have seen someone do the Cabana deed skip in complete darkness. So it is definatly doable on console. The wire frame encode is just a courtesy to the viewer.

Yeah I thought about the SHT cutscene skip again. I did time it and it did come out slightly slower. But at the moment I can not put my finger on it why. Maybe I messed up? If you discount the added VC load time after a reset, that mupen does not have, you are actually about 40 seconds faster warping into Ikana than Grunz's TAS. A TAS should probably be able to get that up to at least 50 seconds, maybe a minute. Maybe a little faster setup for storing SoT and that should be unbeatable. What was my problem with it? hmm... Getting the money from ECT is ofcourse not the most efficient way for a TAS. On the other hand, you can't argue with results. I thought about getting it before ever getting to Termina, but there we'll already have to get some extra money the TAS needs to get to buy a few chus and one or two (depending on japanese or english) Deku Sticks, right before the end. So that would not be nearly enough. Maybe, with some tight optimisation, we could get in 3 runs through termina field in cycle 1. That would most certainly be fastest, if possible. Anywho this all just becomes relevant when we get a mupen that supports reset recording for MM. And we all know a lot can happen in the span of a Million years, especially in Zelda games. ;D Skipping the second gap in ST seems doable to me from the range I have seen in those clip videos. What is the problem with it? Btw. 1-2 questions to you ZFG: How does one actually reactivate the stored sot textbox? I've only ever seen it in videos and it's nowhere documented. Not even in the ZSR forums. (ofcourse it's not on the ZSR page, which is horribly out of date and has even lessen information, than it had before ZSR went CMS. Hope somebody takes that page under his/her wing eventually) What do you think which version should be used? Do the japnese advantages outweigh it's drawbacks sufficiently?

That way you wouldn't have to leaf that far. On J you can use the sides of the bridge for the WW dive and you can use Tetra for text. (Hyrule1 freezes later on anyway, afair, so Hyrule2 is the only option)
I think you also need mirror shield (to reflect the light arrow in Ganondorf fight). Unless the game only checks that your shield is up and not its type.
The game gives you Master Sword and Mirror Shield when you enter the Puppet Ganon fight. Probably a leftover from beta testing or something.

I've decided to write down a few known improvements for any%, before I forget them again: First wait till there is a version of mupen with which resets work for MM. Everything else will be a waste of time. - skip deku text before entering termina (you can skip the flower and the text, it's just hard) - pause buffer past bipolar mask salesman - Reset right after entering clock town to skip a cutscene - after buying bombs and chus, use a chu to get by the guard. talking to him is slow. Also use a leaver to enter GB. See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhpxw4bwAHQ - In the swamp use a down-A HISS to skip the big octos - get one less deku stick in woodfall - in woodfall temple use the double bomb strat to hover over the gap. You can see this strat in PF and SHT. - Sell the last red potion isntead of drinking it so you can wrack up damage beforehand, for GBT BK skip - Manage bottles a little better so that you can catch a fairy in a real bottle - get one less nut back - Use a-slide clip in STT in the map room to get to the main room: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u8VVkCaWx4 - I think the second gap in ST should be skippable with the new a-slide clip, but that would have to be tested - destroy stt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx1VXKIk1Yo - fight Garo master with fire arrows instead of stick - skip stt mask cutscene with stored sot. That needs a few other little changes in the route, but I'm sure you can figure that out :D From what we timed skipping cutscenes of other temples should not be worth it. They are simply too short. For Garo master I'm not 100% sure if getting deku nuts back is even faster when you fight him with fire arrows. Does anybody know for sure? I hope I haven't forgotten anything. If so please tell me and I will add it. Considering the japanese version: Text differences are relatively negligible. Yes japanese is faster, but not by much, certainly not enough to warrent a switch. But there are quite a few big differences between J and U. I'm going to mark what helps the J version with + and what hurts it with -. + Power crouch stab: this means getting only one deku stick and destroying bosses even faster. + slightly faster text + Shoot hookshot guard in the face. No need to get into the upper room. - no cutscene skip with sodt.. there is a cutscene skip to skip the turtle cutscene, but it is slower - no flying zora - observatory platform is only reachable with zora mask - before hovering against walls you need to slice the sword once. otherwise chus won't explode (basically never happens during the TAS, so negligible) There are other differences, but afaik those are the only ones important for a TAS.

Ah k. It's relatively early in the run, so I thought it was part of the TAS. Now you have to do that hover another time. XD

Ahahbob, did you also store the mail bag cutscene or did you use glitches thign to get around it?

It's to store the main area cutscene (to skip it).
