I kinda, sorta caused Tyler to restart like 3 times. That's what happens if you don't go over the route with other people. :D But the current route is solid, I think. So I hope we'll see a new WIP soon. It has been a while since he started with that route. No rba/ww/dot skip is pretty unnecessary, imo. That stuff is showcased in just the same way in MST. Ofcourse anybody who wants to TAS this game could TAS MST. Some healthy competition has never hurt. any%: depends on how different the deku tree actually is. There will probably be a different temporary flag that corresponds with the last gate in Ganons tower escape. So that could be interesting. Still if you want to do that, you have to work a lot on your optimization, poptart1234. That WIP is frankly horrible. ^^"

Master Quest I thought was originally Nintendo 64, in Japanese (seems to be the TAS trend) ... the US version is only GameCube. In any case, all the TAS I've seen were just plain OoT... nobody's done Master Quest, which would be interesting.
That's wrong. It was originally planned for the 64DD, but when that flopped Master Quest was scratched. What we (and the japanese) later got on the Gamecube is the very unfinished version of that game. That's why it is even glitchier than normal OoT. It never came out for the N64 anywhere.

@sack_bot Also worth noting: There will be almost no sail pumping, since there will be almost no sailing. There will be a little bit of sailing while gathering the triforce charts, but that's all.

Grunz said once it would work without JS, but I guess he changed his mind.... like he does. :D If you have to JS you can't kill the Babas, since Deku Stick won't harm them. Biggest problem with stick route is the money. You need quite a bit for the shield and second stick. Without slicing bushes, that's going to be hard to get. For example you would have to get the chest in the Kakariko grotto.

Since it sounds like a normal speedrun and not a TAS: http://speeddemosarchive.com/

Well would still be slightly slower than getting the sword, if I remember correctly. Also get your ass to IRC. :P

No idea, but it should be quite a bit, since it skips the Stalfos fight and crap. We'll have to see once somebody TASes it. My best guesstimation: 30-45 seconds.

@Pheenoh I hate to encourage spider-waffle, but getting sword or deku stick is not that far apart. Grunz determined after some timing that sword is slightly faster, but not by much, as you can: - buy one deku stick - go down ZR, get bottle, etc. - after getting back to Kokiri buy another stick along with the shield - mido skip via megaflip off a skulltulla you summon from the magic bean hole - use deku stick ISG to kill the Dekubabas and get 3 more deku sticks (remember default damage of ISG is always 1 Kokiri sword swipe, thus you can kill them with stick ISG) What it mostly came down to in the end is that stick text is way slower in the shop than outside. I think that shows how close that was.

Yeah this trick is fun. :) Also Grunz, find me in IRC. I think I have a fun idea for this. ^^

Its definitely a big enough time saver that it justifies redoing from the escape.
But you would have to redo from inside the Deku Tree.

Don't you need to hit the slingshot ladder? MrGrunz, does that timing include hitting the ladder and everything it requires (the slingshot?, going to the room and watching the cutscenes). If it is still faster, and I hope it is, changing the current tas isn't that simple...
Well it's still a relatively small part of the tas. Just go into slingshot room, shoot the ladder down, do the rest of the deku tree and the escape. Everythign else stays the same.

I have fun ideas, don't I? :D Also Link falls off the ledge since the cutscene deactivates ISG. The bomb is so that you have something to grab. 100% will not happen until we have a better N64 emulator.

Hmm since they are in a set, maybe only deciphering one chart might unlock all the pieces? A longshot, but should be worth testing. :)

Stone Watcher, you do get smashed, confirmed. Jalhalla also confirmed.
Wow that was fast confirmation. ;) It's just that I heard that you don't need them for Jalhalla at least in the J version. Would make sense. If I was a programmer I wouldn't check for bracelets at there, since you have to have them to get that far, usually. Also stone watcher might not get you crushed if you clip just right...

You can unload to get under Earth Temple and be swimming in the water, however, you have no way to get up vertically to the entrance.
Can't you just unload the stone, like the logs blocking the entrance to the fairy island?

Did anybody ever actually test if you need them for Jalhalla? StoneWatcher... well would be nice to get that confirmed as well.

I just glanced over the route on page 11 again. Do we need power bracelets? I think it should be possible to L-slide clip into Stone Watcher and Savage Labyrinth. Earth temple should be unloadable...

Repeat Info: Deku Leaf is required to get into Dragon Roost Cavern without watching the cutscenes with Medli or something.
Well you could zombie hover into DRC. But not being able to drop bombs out of a hover and the missing BK skip are a deal breaker. Ofcourse all that wouldn't be a problem with the tuner... damn emulator restrictions. :D

Has it been determined yet if getting Ballad of Gales is really slower? Long distance super swims take quite some time to set up. The ballad could get you way closer to where you need to go. Ofcourse it takes time to get and also takes time when you play it. But has it really been fully considered?

Faster in several places. A big one now is entering dri. Without tuner, you need to get the messenger bag and watch the whole intro inside the room. It makes zombie hovers suck too. I would say atleast 10 minutes, just for small optimizations as well. Green ting would be nice too.
Just curious. Assuming tingle tuner is supported, how would input from the tingle tuner be recorded, since the GBA uses a different emulator? Edit: that, and the emulator that suports connection with dolphin deosn't have rerecording.
I don't think you would have to record anything on the GBA side. You would just have to have the GBA input in the dtm. Ofcourse the game still has to think that there is a GBA on the other side that is talking to it and that might become a little tricky. But you could probably make a special version of dolphin that fakes that. Still you would have to know what the commands the GBA sends exactly are... I hope somebody somehow makes that work. That would make this TAS a lot more fun. I also think that skipping forest water is probably faster now and it makes the run less complicated, so yay.

Yeah like I said, I was the one saying "there has to be a ledge clip method" considering how many ledges and corners there are on that ship, in Cosmos stream. After that Klyde went and found it. I really don't know if he had tried it if I hadn't been my annoying self. Maybe, maybe not. :D But in the end it doesn't really matter. It's his discovery.

No I said that and was really annoying about it till it was tested. (at least if you are refering to the ledge clip method) That's also how I got Grunz to break MM. Being annoying is a gift and a curse. XD

I guess forest water could expire any time in the dungeon, as long as you are not in mid flight at that moment... But do you really have 20 minutes worth of game time stuff to do before you get there? That's a long time for a TAS and the first part of the game doesn't have that much stuff to do...

forest haven is faster with bombs anyway, which you wouldn't have by the first trip. at least i think so, assuming the first thing you do is get a bottle and go there so that the timer can start asap.
How would bombs make forest haven faster exactly?

I never said there was no other use. That's why I asked. In the post you quoted I said that I wasn't sure. Did you read it? ;p So the TAS is going to use forest water to skip the BK? Is that really worth it? Can you time that correctly? Guess I'll have to put my trust in Abahbob there. If he can pull this off it's pretty damn impressive. Wouldn't this take an extra trip to forest haven and wouldn't that eat all the time not getting the BK saves?

What do you actually need forest water for? I thought the cabana was the only use.
