So, I got a VMWare and then set it to emulate Windows XP 32bits so I can use Hourglass. But the problem is: only a few games ran fine on it. 1) Tested and works perfectly with Hourglass: -Megamari -Rockman 7 FC 2) Tested and loads imperfectly on Hourglass: -Koumajou Densetsu 1 (game runs normally on VM, but extremely fast on Hourglass) -Quartet X (runs fine on VM, but extremely slow on Hourglass) 3) Tested and doesn't work at all, regardless if Hourglass is used: -Koumajou Densetsu 2 (black screen) -Rosenkreuzstilette and Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel (black screen as well) KD2 and RKS/RKSF gives me a black screen even without Hourglass. So that's not a problem with Hourglass, it's a problem with the VM. I can't even run the games normally there, and I know they work with windows XP because I used to have an old computer with it and they all used to work perfectly there. Any tips so I can improve the situation? I want to make those games works, so what configurations should I set for my VMWare? (This is my computer's information, btw: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/UEEHgNWmFW6GfFMbdQwYHEI)

I want to know the exact differences between the three profiles of BizHawk: 1) Casual Gaming 2) Tool-Assisted Speedrun 3) Longplays The keywords for them are "performance", "accuracy" and "stability" respectively, but this doesn't tell much. I don't do speedruns (as in: clearing the game as fast as possible), so I suppose I can ignore the second option, right? But... I do gameplays of me clearing a game without taking damage and stuff, so... for example, let's say I want to beat a shmup without dying. Shmups are short, they can be cleared quickly. So... should I choose "Casual Gaming" for that? But... what if I want to do a full RPG playthrough: RPG's are long, they take hours to be finished. So, should I select the third option (Longplays) for them? I just want to know if I got things right. As in: if the first option is for short games and the third option is for long games.

Okay. I'll try to finish the game as fast as I can and report if I find any issues.

That's a special case; the core knows that Pier Solar has a companion CD so fetches the relevant stuff for it. As it's not hooked up in the frontend, the bios missing message is not relevant here, and you can't play Pier Solar with a CD.
So... can I just ignore this warning and play the game normally? Also, I heard it's troublesome to emulate this game or something... so, what BizHawk profile should I select for it? Casual Gaming, Tool-Assisted Speedruns or Longplays?

I got this error while loading a Genesis rom on BizHawk 1.8.2: Despite of that, the rom still apparently loaded fine. I don't know if I'll find bugs later on though. What is this error trying to mean anyway, and how can I (if possible) fix it...?

When I run the Sega-CD game Sol-Feace, it won't go past this screen: I've tried the game on Kega-Fusion and it works perfectly there. To make it work, you simply need to leave the option "Perfect Sync" enabled. On Gens, I have both "VSync" and "Perfect SegaCD Synchro" enabled. But the game still doesn't work. What should I do?

Thanks Scepheo. I won't guarantee anything, but if I successfully learn all of the necessary stuff, I'd be happy to help developing new cores for BizHawk. I at least have enough free time at my disposal.

Thanks, gotta keep this in mind. But do I need to do something really hardcore like... applying for a Computer Science college or just a smaller course teaching those three programming languages would be enough? That's because I think a Computer Science college would be kinda... too long. It'd also teach mostly general stuff, and lot of them would potentially be irrelevant to help me coding emulators. But maybe a smaller, shorter course focusing only on what I want would be a better choice. So... should I choose the former or the latter?

I care. :P Well... if nobody wants to try this out, then I'll have to do it myself. One problem: I don't know how to code, lol. But I'm sure I can learn how to do it if I study. So... I was wondering, what "branch" of programming must I study so I can code emulators/TAS emulators in general? I'm guessing it's C, C++, Assembly, Java... or something similar. I want specifications so I can buy the right books and maybe even apply for the correct courses.

Sorry if it's on the wrong section, but... There are a few old computers with good games on it. Mainly those: 1) Amiga 2) NEC PC-8801 3) NEC PC-9801 4) Sharp X68000 But I think nobody tried to make TAS emulators out of those yet. Kind of related, I remember reading somewhere that the reason we have no PS3 emulators while we have an Wii one, is because the Nintendo community is larger than Sony's or something, so they have far more devs. (It's even possible to TAS the Wii already. While as for ps3, we don't even have a half functional, regular emulator yet) So, I was wondering... how come we already have TAS emulators for Wii and not for those 4 extremely old computers? Is it because the community we have for them is EVEN smaller than Sony's or because it's simply complicated to TAS those systems so nobody came with a solution yet?

I'm not sure if I have asked this before, but how is Saturn emulation on BizHawk? Is it stable enough to make a simple TAS or completely impossible? If it's at least as stable as fba-rr, then I think I can make a few TASes on it.

I want to know one thing. Why are NA games on .bin + .cue format while JP ones are on .iso + .cue + .wavs? If JP games were on .bin as well, my life would be much easier. Is there not a way to make JP work as .bin format at all?

Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX0FwngHDIs Basically, I tried the 3 versions of Sonic CD. (Japanese, European and American) Japanese and European has no audio, but the American one does. That's because they're on different formats: -JP and EU have an .iso, a .cue and a bunch of .wavs -NA has only a .bin and a .cue So... when the games are on JP and EU style, what should I do to make them reproduce audio? should I convert the .wavs into a single .bin, or merge the .wavs with the .iso, or do something similar...? Please, I'd like some help.

I have another question. What are those 3 options for: Is there any major difference if I leave them enabled or disabled? I also wanna know if they are TAS safe.

Actually, enabling or disabling this changes nothing on the dumped .avi's resolution. So, guys... after several tests, I figured out how to dump the videos correctly with Gens. You just need to leave the option "Proper Aspect Ratio in low-res mode" disabled. Doing so will make the emulator dump videos as 320x244 when the game is playing on this mode, as well as dumping as 256x244 when the game is playing like this. The movie overall will still be 320x244, but the segments that are on 256x244 will have black borders added to the sides as compensation. Those black borders can easily be cropped with virtualdub, though. You just need to go "video > filters > add > null transform > cropping" and then put the value 32 on both X1 and X2 offsets.

Are Gens 11b movies compatible with another version of the emulator? I may try another version to see if it dumps properly.

Okay. There are no black borders on my videos. They're all being dumped as 320x224, including Sunset Riders. I can prove that with this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_1Pof4O-vQ As you can see, after dumping them, I throw both on virtualdub and the program shows no black borders on either of them.

Then I think my other genesis movies are like that too. >.> Give me one example of a game that dumps on 320x224? Just so I can see if black borders will appear there as well.

What games are dumped on 256x224 then? Give me at least one example.

I'm using Gens 11b. When I dump movies, the emulator dumps on 320x224. I want to dump them on 256x224. So... how can I set the emulator to H32 mode? I can't find this option anywhere.

What's the "sprite limit" option for? If I leave it disabled, will it allow MORE sprites on screen or LESS sprites on screen?

Thank you for the quick reply, adelikat. I'll try those two versions now and get back to you in a moment. -EDIT- Ok. So... I tried fceux-2.1.5 and all of my movies synced there perfectly. Thank you based adelikat. the fact my computer can't work with 2.1.4a anymore is still weird, tho. Is there an explanation for this? I know it should not matter anymore, but I'm still curious.

okay so... I've always used version 2.1.4a for my TASes and everything always worked fine. But earlier ago when I ran the .exe, some strange error happened but I thought it was just something silly, so I closed the window and didn't even read. Then the .exe completely vanished from my computer, and now when I want to download the emulator again, this happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzkJrDusoQw basically, EVERY SINGLE VERSION of the emulator works here, except for 2.1.4a. And it's EXACTLY the version that contains all of my TASes. I want to encode my TASes again, so unless if the movies from 2.1.4a are compatible with another version of the emulator, I'll never be able to replay my movies again, ever. Seriously, I'm dreadfully desperate here. I put a lot of effort on my TASes and I don't want to redo all of them from square one. I want to make them work again. Please someone help me!
