I got some useful advice as to how to record avi files using gens 11a however when i record avi files using gens 11a it cuts of about 10-20 seconds, sometimes more, of the end of the video. it also splits the video up into multiple parts for example i recorded the first zone of sonic 3 yet when i went to view the recording it was split into two recordings, the second of which cut off the end of the video. Am i doing something wrong to cause the video to end early? maybe i am using save states wrong?

you do not need to do "record new movie" at all for AVI recording. "Record new movie" starts recording your input for later playback, and is totally unrelated to AVI recording. If you wish to make an AVI recording of an input movie, you will either have to start the movie playing first or set "Sync AVI with Movie" in tools->avi.
Oh thanks its fine now

On a side note, be sure that you have the appropriate video codecs installed, specifically, ffdshow. This should allow you to dump high quality AVIs, better than the standard codecs supplied with default Windows installations. I suggest using the lossless H.264 codec if you plan to process the video further. The Camstudio codec is also a good dumping codec if you wish to engage in further processing, but it is only really useful for if you plan to make High Definition videos.
So when it asks me what i want to use to compress the file i use the ffdshow? (If i only want to view the video on my computer not upload to internet)

What are you trying to do, exactly? If you are just recording your normal game play, you can start AVI dump at any time. If you are recording an AVI of a movie file, pause the emulator, start playback of the movie, then start the AVI dump.
What i am trying to do is do a test to get everything right so once i have recorded the movie i am trying to play it on Windows Media Player but it will not let me

I have looked at some posts asking how to record avi files on gens, however i am unsure about something. Do i need to record new movie then start avi dump?, or do i just start avi dump.

I am trying to create a Sonic 3 & Knuckles TAS but i have a problem. Once i use frame advance (using the / as my hotkey incase it matters) i don't know how to get the frame rate back to normal. For example i use frame advance to do a perfect jump up a platform, then i want to continue at normal speed, not the frame advance speed. How do i reset the frame speed?

For some reason when i play knuckles in sonic 2 when i finish Hill Top zone act 2 it restarts the game lol -.-'. Oh and when playing as knuckles there is a certain route on aquatic ruin (one of the underwater routes) where a column/pillar appears that is too tall for knuckles to jump over causing you to either drown or backtrack.

First of all sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if so please tell me which it belongs to. I am new to making TAS runs but they fascinate me and I was hoping someone can give me a good tutorial on how to do level wrapping or good spots to do screen wrapping. I know how to screen wrap but don't know many good places. So the main point is if you have any glitches or fast routes for Sonic 3 & Knuckles please share them with me. Thanks
