One of the secret numbers should have been 58008. You missed a golden opportunity for hilarity, comicalflop!

Oh man! Oh man!! You were talking like this wouldn't be finished until the end of the year! Now where did I put MUPEN?... edit: Wow. You've exceeded my loftiest expectations. Easy yes vote, and in a just world this would get a star too... but no one cares about Mischief Makers ;)

Building off of the thread title (if not its contents, exactly), if I had the spare time I'd totally learn how to play drums. I've always wanted to learn, but don't have the time or money for lessons, nor the space for a kit of my own :) Maybe someday!

I was going to say, once you get past the really long levels of world 4, it'll be smooth sailing, since world 5 is mostly boss battles. However, after recalling how much time you spent on Migen Brawl, maybe that won't be the case :P

Are there any known wacky tricks that might make Golden Sun or its sequel A) Beatable in an acceptable amount of time, and B) Entertaining to watch during that time? I loved both GS games, and I'd love to see a speedrun of them sometime, but if there aren't any crazy glitches or workarounds known then the resulting run would probably be pretty slow-paced. :(

Edit: now is also a really good time to persuade me whether to use the timer-stopping text trick or not.
Well, I personally don't really give a damn what the timer at the end of the level says. The amazingness of the run comes from the speed of play. I don't think the text trick is necessary, and it certainly wouldn't be grounds for rejection if you didn't include it.

Give me a steak and cheese (provolone) with a little salt and I'll be happy forever. I like to keep things simple.

I think a lot of people played this game in their childhood and would enjoy watching a TAS of it. I know I spent hours and hours unsuccessfully trying to figure out how to beat that damn egyptian level... :)

It's a shame Acmlm's Tetrisphere movie apparently wasn't nominated; else I would have voted for that. That said, I wouldn't have watched the Biker Mice from Mars movie if Tetrisphere had been an option, and it's hilarious. It takes something special to break a racing game by going too fast.

I had no idea what was going on most of the time, but that didn't stop me from being entertained. I see no reason why this shouldn't be published in the hacks/demos section. Yes vote.

Boy, it's going to be hard to wait for this until it's fully done with no WIPs to comfort me. But, I am a patient man! Especially when it comes to runs of this game ;) I wish I had more to contribute in the way of helpful tips and tricks, but alas. Best of luck to you, sir.

Congrats, this has been quite a while in the making, but you managed to muscle through the plague of desyncs and make a superb run :) Yes, without question.

Unoptimized as it is, it's still faster than the published run. The fact that it's unoptimized just means that it will be easier for other runs to overtake it. Until those are made, though, this is all we have. Voted yes.

I know that you used slowdown and got times faster than your console runs, but somehow on 2 of those levels you managed to beat Nitsuja's times, who uses frame advance, and thousands of rerecords. TAS 3-1 time: 19.19 Your 3-1 time: 13.95 TAS 3-4 time: 17.47 Your 3-4 time: 14.37 So maybe you can help shed some light on where you gained time in those levels, and how you play tool assisted differently that makes it faster.
I think you have your times slightly confused. It looks like Veysey got the 17.47 time unassisted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exoUMcAcLTk ... And looking at nitsuja's last WIP, he got 14.18 on that level, not 17.47 (or 14.37). nitsuja also got 16.42 on 3-1, not 19.19. Veysey's unassisted run is 27.27, though, so I don't know where the other numbers are coming from this time.

I think worrying about feedback by random users on youtube is a silly thing to do. WIPs would be viewed by, what, a hundred people if it's a popular game? This forum doesn't seem to have an awful lot of people hovering around it at any given moment. That said, we could always upload it somewhere where it's more difficult to randomly stumble upon. After some quick googling, Vimeo seems to have some privacy options available. Don't know what's actually offered as I'm too lazy to register at the moment, but if there's some easy way to put a video up there and block it from the general public but leave it open to anyone specifically following a link from this forum, it could be a viable alternative to youtube. Or someone with dedicated hosting can make their own flv hosting service :)

I don't play too many games anymore, so I have to re-route my nerd obsessiveness into game soundtracks nowadays. Seconding Cave Story and every Genesis/Megadrive Sonic game (except maybe Spinball). 3D Blast often gets overlooked, and when people do pay attention to its music, it's usually the Saturn version. Which admittedly does have great music, but the Genesis version has some fantastic music too! Rare had a stellar string of soundtracks (alliteration!) on the N64 going for a while; Blast Corps, Diddy Kong Racing, and Banjo-Kazooie all have superb music. While we're on the 64, Tetrisphere/The New Tetris and Mischief Makers both deserve mentions for being unique (and in the case of the Tetris games, the music is absolutely kickass and some of the best on the N64, ever). Neil Voss is a minor deity. Parappa the Rapper, Um Jammer Lammy, and Vib Ribbon for PS1 all have wonderful soundtracks. Jet Set Radio deserves a mention. Anyone who's played it will know why. On the PC, The Neverhood has one of the most uniquely charming soundtracks I've ever heard for anything, courtesy of Terry Scott Taylor. I cannot recommend tracking this game down enough, if only for the music. Here's the main theme: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DXQ2lvgpHiE But the best game soundtrack of all time? Earthbound. No question.

Haha, I love that autoscrolling level that scrolls faster than Mario can run.

Great improvement, the work to make this entertaining is clearly evident in the final movie. Eager yes vote. edit: Even if you did use chaser an awful lot... I never liked it :)

Adaptive pitch: 3.9 Hz Tonedeaf: 69.4% :( Rhythm: 96% :) I've never played an instrument but I've always been interested in drums. I guess I know why!

I usually watch videos of games I haven't played but have at least heard of, to see what the game is like (roughly). I'll rarely vote on it, though, unless the movie is clearly well done and very entertaining. Umihara Kawase is a good example (and the videos got me to play the game!)

Wow. I'm not exactly sure how to justify publishing this since the restriction is somewhat arbitrary, even though in this case the restriction actually adds quite a bit to the entertainment value of the movie. I only know that this definitely deserves to be published. Tremendous work.

I'd much rather see separate runs for WL2 and 3 first. IMHO multi-game runs should be reserved for games that have already been well-covered and optimized by everyone, leaving not a lot of room for improvement or creativity. Neither WL2 nor 3 have a single published run between them. They deserve a little love on their own :)

My mistake; I thought that section was for runs of hacked games only. If we already have a section devoted to movies like this, then I see absolutely no reason why this movie (or the MM3/4/5/6) should not be published in that section (separate from the rest of the movies).
