A lot of the 10 ratings are from people who absolutely love this game, and I imagine that the cutscenes were fine for them because they were comparing them to their English counterparts, so they were amazed at how much faster they were in Japanese. And okay, I understand that you dislike OoT. I appreciate your yes vote on my any%, and the fact that you didn't vote on this one (IIRC). I still have a hard time believing that you would willingly finish a movie that you felt had 0 entertainment value, and definitely think that it was at least partially a spite rating, but you're free to use the system that way if you want. Others are also free to notice it, though, and call you out on it. Removing all of your ratings was an overreaction so please put them back.

So SL decided to save time by using the Japanese ROM (significant drop in entertainment value for me, as I have no clue what is going on), yet purposefully lost time by "signing" the run? Interesting priorities...
Hmm, a handful of frames "wasted" vs. 1.5-2 minutes saved in boring text and cutscenes. Yep, you got me, my priorities are all out of whack. I noticed the no vote count went up by 1 after your post. XD

Thanks for the kind words so far, everyone. I'm glad you're all enjoying the run. Hopefully the silent no voter will stop being a coward and post his reasons for voting no. :P Here are some screenshots I took for the publication: I'm probably going to go with the second one because I feel it's a great representation of the run's "gimmick", but I like the first one too.

RingRush attacked the site with twice the juice. I say we get him back by banning him, with thrice the juice! Be brave, staff of TASVideos.

I agree that that was a bit disruptive so I pastebinned the logs instead. http://pastebin.com/GuJjrpHB

The final time of the any% TAS (timing from power on til last hit on Ganon) is 19 minutes and 51.55 seconds. With TAS timing, it's 22:59. For obvious reasons, the encodes and publication page are going to mention both times. The run will be on my YouTube channel when the encode is ready, which will probably be in about a week. As with MST, I don't want to submit it here until he's on there because Mupen is such a hassle.

So even after being ordered to change the rating and doing so, I'm still being harassed. Fantastic. What exactly do you want from me? >_>
Please don't try to paint yourself as the victim (there isn't one). I just asked you to explain your votes, and apparently, you agree with me that they were questionable so you changed them. I think everything that's been said by Grunz, Warp, and rog is completely true, but it's still your right to use the ratings to protest if you like (although it seems petty and counterproductive, unlike talking about it in a thread like this).

I'm glad that the run is published at long last. Thanks for the hard work, Aktan. The encodes are perfect as always. :) I was reading the ratings for the run on the publication page, and noticed this one: Saethori 0.1 6.2 I was hoping that Saethori could explain his reasoning behind these in the thread. I'm a little upset because a 6.2 technical vote is very insulting to me when I worked so hard to optimise this run so well (and I feel like everyone else can tell that this is the case). A 0.1 for entertainment is the lowest score possible, which makes me suspicious about the reasons behind it. I understand that not everyone will find OoT or this run entertaining, but that still seems low to me, especially given that Saethori's posts in this thread were all staunchly against runs being able to "break" rules on the site (which this one, in a sense, did). So you can please explain these? If you think the 6.2 technical rating is justified then please explain to me what you think is improvable about the run, because I'm very interested in making a new run at some point and would like to take your advice on board.

I have sort of thought about this before but never brought it up. Why is this not called the "0 Stars" run?
My guess is that we just never changed it back to "stars" after "1 star" had been the norm for a while.

what ratio of gameplay:cutscenes does the new route have?
It's still being done on the Japanese ROM no matter what, lol.

If it's really so important to have a "clear definition" of this category (it isn't), couldn't we just say that negative hyperspeed is banned? Meaning that having no cap on forward speed (such as HSWKs) is fine because those are regular moves that were intended anyway (being able to wallkick on an optimal frame isn't a glitch).

Voted yes. Good job, Tyler, and I can't wait to see the all dungeons run (and more importantly, the MQ TAS). ;)

I really feel bad because there's obviously a lot of work in this run and there's so many authors involved, but I've got to vote no. First, it just collects 70 stars instead of 120, so the run feels incomplete. But most importantly, I don't see the pertinence of a BLJless category, especially when I compare it to the currently-published 120 stars run which barely uses BLJ inside levels. They're way too similar. As far as I know, BLJ is not a bug that destroys normal gameplay, so this run just feels like a step backwards for me. I could be wrong though, and if I am, I'd like to see a run on TASVideos that completely abuses BLJ to collect all the stars in the game. Until then, I'm sticking to my no vote.
Haha, there's always at least one. Don't worry, it's obviously getting published despite silly votes like this. :D Congrats on this run, guys. It's the best SM64 TAS I've ever seen. None of that ridiculous modern tech which makes every star the same, just good old fashioned optimised playing. IMO, this run should be given the star from the 0 star run. :)

Calm down and enjoy the run. :)

I improved this run by a lot. Here's the new m64: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1584811726/Kayak%20V2.m64 The new in-game time is 1:26.36. adelikat, could you replace it with that one before you judge the run? This is faster than the current m64 in the submission by 16.1 seconds (966 frames). That's how much quicker I reach the top-down camera at the end of the level. The improvements came from slightly different paths at parts of the level, notably after the first major shortcut (going over the boundary instead of around the corner) by going left instead of going right (I previously thought going right was worth it because it meant I would reach a wall sooner, but it turned out to be a bit slower). Other than that, better understanding of when to be against walls allowed for a more optimised run of the level.

Well, is it physically possible to use the extended range on the controller without modifying it? Because you can do U+D / L+R on an unmodified NES controller if you have sufficient manual dexterity.
Yes, actually. aleckermit posted earlier in the thread that you can reset the controller while holding up, and this will make neutral act like up, meaning that if you hold up again, it'll go beyond its "intended" range.

Yeah, haha, that has got to be the worst reason for voting no that I've seen in a while (unless you guys also voted no on Link's Awakening DX, A Link to the Past, and all other games that use "questionable" controller inputs for the same reason). Ah well, I'm glad most people are enjoying this. :)

Nope, there is no longer any preference for the english version.
You're welcome. :P Anyway, this was another great run from a fantastic TASer. Great job, Nahoc, I loved it and voted yes. Even with Ocarina of Time and my super amazing kayaking TAS, I don't think I have a chance in hell of beating you for N64 TASer of the year. :)

As much as I loved this run, I must urge you to focus more on your non-glitched GameCube version run. Be brave and I know you will make an honourable run. P.S. I voted yes.

Does it really matter that it's in Japanese? The story is broken and out of order in this TAS anyway.
I know, right? And nah, it doesn't matter at all, cause the rule was changed, so this run is completely acceptable by site rules. It's great because it means that we can see many runs with faster text published now, as well as a lot of runs from the Japanese TASing community (which is quite large) being more likely to be submitted here now. I'm sure everyone who was against this change / run being published feels silly now, haha.

This was a cool run. It shows a lot more of what screenwarping has to offer than the short run. I voted yes.

Only one is required even without the ocarina. Whenever I did that timer stopping thing in my run, it was just because it looked cool.
