I don't know how you're getting that, there's a RTS back a page on this thread that does it in 0:48 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdp9vPa91j0&feature=channel_video_title
He gets control at 3:10 and is at the vines at 4:15. That's 1:05. Granted that is faster than my timing. I should not time that late at night. I did not notice that bloobs TAS has to deal with english text. On this short stretch TAS could probably gain like an aditional 5s... So that is 0:25 in front of sword. For ruto bottle still not enough. For cucco bottle maybe...
In that video I posted above he gets 18r in the river.
Yeah but he swam the river completely down. If you want ruto bottle you have to get out at the second Octo.
If ruto bottle way also using tons of slides it might not be feasible with stick, but can't you do as many slides as you want for one level with stick using half-broken stick?
Like I said before broken stick vanishes when you go through a loading zone...
You also might have to time which level you want to use the stick for boosting on too.
There isn't really anything to time. - With ruto bottle you would need at in lake hylia to get to the owl before dark - With cucco bottle you need it to skip the owl in front of Kakariko Basically the owl dictates the places. :D
In danger of appearing like an uneducated retard I will ask my question anyways. Why is the owl the endtarget of the childsection? That custscene is fucking gigantic. + The Owl is like totally far away at the lake. I do seem to remeber it being timed slower last time the ruto-bottle was the goto route for any%

I looked over some earlier runs and I believe you are right. I am unable to do sufficient testing to confirm it though. Judging by slowkings silence, one would think he agrees.

Slowking has been wrong before. He is usually right though. I would love to see some videos on this.

Is there a way to find additional sticks after buying one?

Nice one EEssentia, but I think you missed the point. Your fact has to be about the game in topic.

Yeah it's just that every time you do these things a stick breaks. So you would nedd like ten sticks for this stuff. You have neither the rupees nor the time to buy these many sticks.
I see how that might be a problem :P

Yeah it won't ;p You really don't save that much with skipping the sword, since going to the shop takes quit some time, too. Then the sword speeds up going down zoras river, then 1-2 HISS in hyrule field, slashing cuccos here and there, etc. I would really like the swordless dot skip to be usefull, too. It is awesome. Sadly I just don't see it. :(
can't stick be used for these things too?

So this means that any WIP from bloob would have to be remade from the beginning. Assuming it can't be hex-edited

I hate being mr negative (again) but this basicly means we are back with the published route being the fastest?

@Drakodan RBA can't reach the values to directly write the light arrows into your menu. Otherwise we would do it. ;) You can BA light arrows to B, but then you need hover boots to get into ganons castle, unlock going back in time by beating the forest temple, etc.. We thought about a route that would do that. It might be faster on the U version. It certainly isn't on J.
Just out of curiosity, how would that route look?

Still waiting to get back on topic...
Last I heard, there was 2 runs being worked on for OoT atm. Bloob is working on an improvement for his any% TAS. SL is working on an all temple TAS. Both using the J-rom. In addition to that MrGrunz was at least considering to start a low% TAS

Responding to Shadow first. Now you are just being childlish by copying my post and turning the arguments around. Which does not work because this site is made for the runs, not the other way arround. So the runs are an attempt at getting the fastest time possible. And this site aims to publish these runs. But in this case the rules are in the way. I suspect you are just trolling at this point, since this should be pretty clear by now. Moozooh: Alltough I actually do partly agree with your first point, I still do find it to be an improvement. The part of the TAS that is being shortned here is the speed at which text (that at this point serves no purpose) pops up and disappears from the screen. When the J rom solves this problem it seems naturall to choose that rom. The second part here seems to be a missunderstanding. What SL is doing is resetting the game. But since it is thus far not possible with the emulator to use the "reset-button" he is instead using a function emulating shutting off power to the N64 and then providing it again afterwards. He explained this earlier in this thread himself. And as you can imagine the same thing would be possible on the actuall console yielding the exact same result.

I'm not being defensive. I'm challenging your statement because it's ludicrous. Your post is not 'stating the obvious'. If anything, it's 'stating nonsensical hyperbole'.
Ok, I will simplify it further so you will understand. The rules are in the way of some of the improvements possible for OoT. There are 2 major things. 1 - Using the J room for OoT cuts of many minuts, all of which are from boring cutscenes. This is not allowed with the current rules 2 - SL uses an emulator which allows him to emulate turning off and on the N64. This is huge since it makes u warp to a certain point. Again the rules do not allow this. My point again, is that these rules would hinder this (and maybe other runs) from getting published here.

no reason to get all deffensive. I am simply stating the obvious.

I might sound too harsh here, but this site is in danger of fading to irrelevance with it's non-sense rules. Hopefully you all agree from SL's WIPs that his run is awesome and would contribute to the site if published. When the rules no longer protects or serves the site, that is the precise moment when they should be changed yo better fulfill their purpose. (Which they, in this case, obviously do not)

I think it's good that Swordless puts some pressure on TASvideos to improve. I just hope they won't be to stubborn to evolve

I didn't say remove the rule alltogether. Change it so it allows the site to publish runs such as Swordless' run

My guess is that some of us here would gladly pay a few bucks to see a 100% TAS. I would chip in $20 bucks to the production of such a run. But I doubt the amount of money raised would be enough of a motivation considering the huge amount of work required for such a TAS
