This could have been a total disaster for one simple reason. The PU stuff so often causes crash on console. That the team avoided abusing emulator to ignore such crashes was a brilliant decision. Well done on getting the TAS verified on console! Some day I hope the OoT community will follow the great example you guys have set with this TAS. As I have observed the trend in OoT speedrunning, I must admit I was skeptical when you, the authors were so secretive about this TAS in the Super Mario 64 Thread on the forum here. I feared it would be because the run would not play on console. I am happy to be proven wrong. Congratulations on this great run! MOAT DOOR HYPE!

So I'm trying to get one done seeing as how I have some free time today. Maybe I'm just being n00bish here, but I change the Plugin to Glide64mk2 and when I run the game w/o the inputs, the jiggy transitions work, but when I play back the movie and record, the jiggy transitions screw up again? Is there something in the input file which forces the Jabo plugin to be used? Also, I checked the Jabo settings and 'Copy FrameBuffer to RDRAM' is already enabled, so.. any thoughts? I'll keep at it in the mean time Edit: So I think I found the Plugin setting in the BK2 Archive, is in the JSON data, I've set it to Glide64mk2 now. Now the trick is getting it to record e2e. Even with a high-spec desktop, I'm getting a lot of freezes and crashes. Will report more later.
looking forward to the encode! good luck

that is good news indeed sonicpacker! Good luck with finishing it up! Any unforseen technical hurdles to report? I was thinking it would be hard to build enough speed outside the castle quickly to get to the moat door in PU?

lxx4xNx6xxl: on previous requests for updates, one of the people involved with making the run told us all to remain patient. There was some further discussion where he got defensive and people questioned if the whole run was just a joke. The mods have since removed that whole discussion. I found it both informative and on topic, therefore it is unfortunate that the discussion didn't continue and a mod deleted it. The whole thread basically died after that incident. My guess is people are either too afraid to get involved or have disregarded the run as not happening.

This is great stuff. I feel like we are getting an insight into the challenges the TASers face. I am still unlear as to how a real moat door skip can have been found like half a year ago, but still no TAS has been made with it? What would cause such a disgrace. Surely one of the people knowing such a trick must feel compelled to show the world ASAP?

This seems like the Brian incident all over again. When Brian told the other TASers that he could do 2nd bowser stage 1 frame faster than the new TAS, therefore the new TAS didn't get submitted for ages. It turned out Brian couldn't do it, and I suspect a simular thing is the case here.

anyone have any updates on the any% TAS? Does anyone know if the japanese TASers are working on it? I seem to recall someone saying the moat door could be used in any% now, but I haven't seen it done.

there doesn't seem to be any competition currently though as nobody is TASing the game ATM. I would agree that the quality of the already published TAS in every category is really high though

if it was up to me any talk of GIM, other than trying to make it work on n64 console wouldn't be discussed here (in the n64 forum) at all. However I respect that some people here find GIM interesting even if it doesn't work on n64. I hope someone discovers something better/faster than GIM that also works on n64. That would make this whole issue go away.

yes. Like u said, with a C^ bounce

GIM does not work on an n64 because the n64 crashes. The only way to perform the glitch is with an emulator that emulates the game differently than an n64 would. The closest GIM gets to being legit is when performed on dolphin, since that is an official emulator by nintendo and there is a release of Ocarina of Time available for gamecube. Even so this is the "Nintendo 64 Games" subforum and therefore any run using GIM should be irrelevant here.

Previous WR holder for this game in the any% category Cosmo Wright has announced he is Transgender and will now be known as Narcissa Wright. Source: https://twitter.com/narcissawright It has been a long time since he was actively running OoT, but I will always remember his amazing run when he set the world record the last time. I know he reads these forums so I would just like to take this opportunity to wish him good luck with his personal stuff and I hope to see him back in OoT at some point either as Cosmo or Narcissa Mod edit: Split into a different thread, because this piece of news has absolutely nothing to do with OoT TASing. Feel free to change the title as you see fit. — moozooh

Just so you know, there is no OoT TASer that plans do to any% right now because: -GIM (Get Item Manipulation) for sure works on N64 but no one found a way to get it without crashing -Moronic and GCTK already did one and was pretty optimised for something done in 3 days As far I know people are working on mst, mst mq, low TAS of no IM/WW and I work on no RBA/WW even if we lost motivation because f*ck Lost Wood bridge u_u
cool. no RBA/WW sounds like a good category to me. How is the progress going? You can't really call what Moronic and GCTK did a TAS though imo, since their product was a spliced video with no input file. Also: Grunz hinting at a comeback? :D

there is nothing uncivil about pointing out inaccuracies in my post. I actually found it helpfull. I am not giving up hope of seeing a new any% TAS of OoT yet

Is OoT TASing dead? Someone hasn't posted in about 10 minutes. I know this topic is 10 years old, but this is serious.
Ignoring my own posts and peoples responses to them, then the last post in this thread when I asked was the 13th of July, which is nearly 3 months ago. But if u think my concerns are unwarranted that's fine (edited for accuracy)

Also: Is OoT TAS'ing dead? No activity here in like for ever and bloob/grunz/swordless show no interest in making a new TAS and nobody else seem to be able to make one.
I've been inactive for 3 months now, but the general consensus for the GIM any% route was that it's simply too boring to be worth optimizing. This doesn't mean people aren't working on other routes or the any% by now. Being inactive on TASVideos doesn't mean nobody is TASing anymore.

Maybe TASing OoT is just too hard and too much work
Difficulty has never been a motivation factor.
thx for responding. I agree with the general consensus for the GIM any% route then. But any% for the original game on N64 is still interesting to me at least.
