Hi everyone! This summer is looking big for TASVideos' Ambassadors and the TASBot team at upcoming events! Earlier this month I presented my talk on rgbscaler.com for JSWorld Amsterdam's online portion. The talk reworks this presentation for a more web development oriented audience. This talk has now also been accepted at React Summit! You can see a talk abstract in my speaker bio under Travis McGeehan. We don't know yet whether this will be another online talk or in person in Amsterdam. Hopefully these talks help push forward the state of retro video on the modern web and lessen the need for some of the hacks used on rgbscaler.com to make it all work. I've also since encoded one of ShesChardcore's TASes as a new demo that should be more cross-platform compatible from a single URL. I hope to do more encodes like this as publications relevant to the site's tech come up. In July TASVideos and TASBot may get the opportunity to have a booth at LTX! The Linus Tech Tips expo LTX runs July 29-30 in Vancouver. We plan to bring setups there to show TASBot to the event attendees as they review a lot of retro tech equipment that we also use in the TASVideos/speedrunning/TASBot scene to capture video from original consoles and we expect the scene to have a lot of interest overlap with TASVideos and TASing in general. We plan to show live console verifications of the Game Boy library there with a matching setup for attendees to try to play the same games in real time. In August TASVideos and TASBot will visit Long Island! We plan to have a booth and panel discussion at the Long Island Retro Gaming expo on August 11-13. The panel will feature SMASHBot, which is pioneering some of the TAS verification possibilities on the GameCube working around the inconsistency in a disc based system, and the booth will feature live TAS playback of the extensive Game Boy TAS verification library just as at LTX.

This reminds me of the strategy I developed for Backyard Soccer, simply running in circles after getting a single score. It's interesting to see it in a TAS context

I concur with nymx, it's hilarious how bad this TAS makes the other team look!

This looked like a good candidate so I made a few encodes on RGBScaler. These encodes are less than 10 megabytes in total and the player on RGBScaler.com uses techniques to upscale pixel art more cleanly than normally possible for web video. I've provided alternate URLs with and without the site's CRT recreation effects turned on. DJ, this is a formal warning: please stop attempting to debate bans with staff. Our moderators discuss and make ban decisions as a group and these decisions are not made lightly. Also, please exercise more caution when posting in general, your last post on an old top gear publication didn't make sense with any of the context I read in that thread.

Panel is this Saturday at 11:30am. I published several rounds of updates to rgbscaler.com. The underlying tech has been rewritten in React, so other React sites can easily reuse the concept. I've also added the ability to replicate scanline and slot mask effects in the client side player so that some aspects of CRTs can be simulated. Link to video This demo should work to show the new CRT effects in Chrome desktop/Android. https://rgbscaler.com/?videoName=videos/HERO.webm&dar=1.3333&par=1&maskIntensity=1&scanlineIntensity=1

I've written up a presentation that I intend to show as part of TASBot and TASVideos's attendance at MAGFest 2023 in a panel. Dropping a link here for any feedback from the TASVideos encoders. It details the compression techniques necessary to make the rgbscaler.com tech demo successful with retro game footage. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1CdOeLuDajVel3wfsFYqgPiSySJ1FNoRXfyq3hAgRkdg/edit?usp=sharing If any encoders happen to be at MAGFest or would like to come to help present the topic they'd be more than welcome to join in. I intend to continue submitting it to other tech conferences as well if anyone would like to help present it at an event more local to them. I have a pre-recorded example of the talk here as well: Link to video

(this also applies here in addition to Red/Blue) Grogir discovered a 2 frame timesave that applies to this TAS: Link to video It's faster to not walk all the way to the end of the SS Anne when encountering boat rival due to a turn frame, the turn frame happens due to a reset of the behavior when the rival (or any trainer's) walk animation happens after the battle.

Link to video I finished the console verification, the game was just timing sensitive enough that changing rounding from ceiling to floor in the export for GBI changed the resulting gameplay.

I started a poll for the first question. After that poll runs we can gauge how we want to move forward with the second question.

Games done quick will be back in the summer! TAS authors can submit TASes to be commentated live at the event without need for console verification (submission rules no longer prevent the use of emulators). The TASBot team is available and willing to help with any authors who would like to have their TAS submission verified live at the event, typically possible for Game Boy and NES submissions. https://twitter.com/GamesDoneQuick/status/1504896306132619264 Additionally, the TASBot team will be at Buckeye Speedbash presenting content next weekend! TASVideos Ambassador TheAxeMan will be doing a speedrun of Soul Blazer next Saturday March 26th at 9am, and I'll be commentating my Pokemon Yellow Glitchless TAS at 9:53pm! https://horaro.org/bsb2022/schedule

I would want this to be possible similar to the concept of "prior art" as I feel it would help document authorship in obsoletion chains, however I would hope and expect that it should be used exceedingly rarely.

Yeah I won't be able to verify any further improvement unless console mode is GBA since the BIOS is slightly different - feel free to use whichever is fastest, there's no hard requirement to use a version that verifies and my verification was never submittable since it had no gameplay improvements

It was less of a resync and more a rewrite, yeah the lag was completely different everywhere and it threw off the bonus games. The bk2s for 1.0 and 1.1 should still be in userfiles. To make sure, you're using console mode GBA?

I've mostly discussed this on discord but I'm a big fan of the playground concept. I feel calling it "Category Extensions" would be the easiest way to help people grasp the concept since it's already common in RTA speedruns to have separate less strict leaderboards with way more categories under that label.

I agree with removing technical ratings. It's somewhat redundant with the judging process except that the judge actually goes through and checks technical quality to some extent so their pass/fail has much more weight. A viewer or reader of the submission text has no clue whether anything happening has technical value towards some crazy glitch or something (the published Yellow NSC TAS has to -intentionally jump back over a ledge- to keep a glitch preserved) and so may think a movie is suboptimal at face value, it's not something that can really be rated just from a viewing audience.

Can you do something to quotes in the forums? With the new site, you get no visual difference to the new post, just text at the top saying "x wrote:" and even that bit of text has the exact same format as everything else. This makes the forums very uncomfortable to read.
Hi andypanther, You likely need to clear cache. This was fixed recently

In reference to flash, it's being worked on by wrapping Ruffle with libTAS.

Hi Mugg, We needed to integrate the style of the forum to create a single seamless "tasvideos" site experience that would be easier to maintain per things like accessibility standards. The github issue tracker already has an open issue for posts since last visit. Feel free to suggest style improvements there as well.

Woah thanks a ton, that seems to be working when putting the cors URL into the URL input on rgbscaler! I have a couple more adjustments to make around that now and I've found some new things to get my custom encodes pre aspect-ratio correction working on more platforms.

I have a PR in to fix the flashing on page load, I'm iffy on whether we'd want to have a page for dark mode as that could easily cause SEO issues if we aren't careful
