This TAS has been "console verified" (though every input had to be delayed by 2+ frames to sync and the first one had to be delayed 7 frames): Link to video

Yeah that strat is used for PP management in the old route not speed, so with the extra PP from ethering Bubblebeam it isn't relevant here.

Very exciting! I love the larger look at the mon choice for the route and the smaller details like continuing the use of animations on through Rival 1 from Yellow. I'll probably have a lot more questions after a deep dive but I noticed at least these from my first watch: I would want to test double growl gen 1 miss on the moon rocket as in the Yellow Rival 1 battle, I'm pretty sure it's slightly faster in theory but it's only a handful of frames which might be hard to keep saved searching for gen 1 misses. I'm curious about the use of the Red cart and Paras over Blue and Sandshrew, due to Paras' longer cry at both the catch and the E4 deposit. I'll have to re-weigh that against the shorter name and the extra route 4 steps. I'm curious if you checked the 4x Night Shade strat with pound, I'd need to test it again here since Clefable's cry is so much shorter but redbar is so useful in red I wouldn't be surprised if it's worth it just for the rest of tower. Will try to test console verification soon :)

The word "arbitrary" is what indicates an unlimited scope of control of the hardware. If you dig deeper into the boilerplate wikipedia explanation, it clarifies that ACE usually refers to having gained unlimited control over where the program counter is pointing to, and unlimited control over the data at that location in memory (eg you've made the location of the next instruction to execute the same location as an input buffer). The process of setting up the glitch game corner and swapping buyable pokes explicitly avoids doing those things (as CPP has also clarified above). Whether an exploit looks like ACE to a casual viewer isn't the point of the ACE flag, it's a technical point of merit for infosec-minded runs. I personally would love to see more games approached with infosec and broken with both ACE and non-ACE attack vectors.

Mazzin - the problem here is similar to one I encountered previously with Pokemon Yellow No Save Corruption obsoleting the entirely different game+category Pokemon Blue NSC. TASVideos doesn't attempt to serve as a recordkeeping site for every version of a game, so while I 100% agree with you that it's worth TASing and setting TAS records in this GB release separate from the GBC collection release, it's an entirely different question whether that record fits the qualifications for TASVideos publication, which would include nuances of the entertainment value of the full color engine on GBC vs potentially more developer-intended gameplay and sound on the GB release. And there's no unfair amount of scrutiny here, there was a ton of scrutiny around Arukado's TAS and discussions spawned about GB vs GBC differences.

It doesn't work on any official release so feel free to put it on hold or cancel it pending a release (in the meantime I'll prepare a movie with annotations)

Hi DanZC, I would suggest joining the Pokemon Gen 1-3 speedrunning discord server where there are many experts on this including TASers. https://discord.gg/NjQFEkc

We actually were able to verify this with a resync, still need to make a yt upload for it. As to the movie entertainment, it looks polished as a TAS and there are some funny elements with everyone losing their pants when they get shot, but it gets old kinda quick. Overall mostly just impressed by the dedication to improving the TAS.

Atari2600 Dragster's code was evaluated mathematically and the current TAS effectively proven to be unimprovable http://tasvideos.org/5876S.html

I was able to verify this but only after turning off ELF resulting in a pretty heavy resync including completely different fishing; however the final time is almost identical after the adjustment (17:40.64). I'm still not 100% sure if this was necessary and am looking at some things in our input dump scripts to see if I can get a verification with ELF on. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/68864178803515883 https://youtu.be/Pw-l_1iWeAo

ok, I'll look into that event too, thanks. Is everything ok with those GBI movies other than the missing blank inputs mentioned?

I'm working on making videos of some of the verification movies from Alyosha's repo and ran into a few problems: The Kwirk movie was missing an ending blank input so the final input didn't register, checked the others and Oracle of Seasons and Oddworld Adventures 2 were also missing the final blank input. When I tried to do my own resync of Kwirk, GBHawk did not emulate the lag accurately enough (though surely it will sync fine manually adding the final input). I'm checking that game now in Gambatte to see if the emu inaccuracy issue persists there. Edit: resync to Gambatte worked fine and the final timestamps were slightly ahead of the timestamps Alyosha's repo (probably EFL differences?) - will note the userfile and video on the Kwirk publication.

I have an updated dump script here that works across gbhawk/subgbhawk/gambatte and splits up movies with hard resets. https://pastebin.com/NbTRNePD

Vigadeomes sent me a resync movie adjusting some lag between stages and we got it playing back on console! I believe this is the 30th GB/GBC game that has been console verified. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RopEkuqxmEc

I tested this on BizHawk 2.5.2/2.5.3 dev and the loads and RNG appeared very different so I wasn't able to do a console verification without further significant modification to the fights/RNG setup. I have a cart and should be able to verify the game if resynced to current BizHawk, thought I'd leave a note here in case Strife wants to take a stab at it.

The movie appears to stay stable through the latest few bizhawk updates so I've grabbed a cart to test console sync!
