It also seemed like a couple of tthe later rounds were slower on your version by comparing. Not as major as for Round 8 however, as that is a difference of about two seconds, which I find quite major for this type of game.

With Fire: Enter the castle -> full black screen after finishing: 2259 With Frog: B to equip the Frog Suit -> full black screen after finishing: 2197 (Includes taking damage to lose the Frog Suit). Afterwards, you'll lose quite a lot of time due to not having the Fire Flower. It is possible to get back the Fire Flower in both 3-8 and 3-9, but it's very slow in both cases (I have not timed them). For 3-8: You won't be able to get P-speed as early, because the Koopa is in the way. If you get the Fire, you won't be able to built up P-speed either, without backtracking to build up the speed. Losing many seconds in both scenarios. It's also seconds lost in 3-9 if you get the Flower back there. There's no Flower in the Airship, meaning huge time loss against Wendy, as well as some in 4-1, 4-2, until you get another shot at wasting seconds to regain it in 4-Fort... etc. So yeah, while 3-F2 itself will be 62 frames faster, it will be at a cost of way too much =).

I noticed this older TAS: Link to video I haven't watched all of it yet, but it has a faster Round 8 than yours at least.

Been redoing the run a bit, edited parts. 96 frames saved: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/34606984779188384 Back on square 0 again, with 4-4 :D.

Yes, the "All dungeons" TAS is very outdated for this, and other, reasons. A new run would improve it by quite a lot. One of the problems, the same reason why I also quit TASing A Link to the Past, is a logical ruleset with defining what glitches that should be allowed or not... It's tricky.

You should know that there is a TAS being worked on currently. Some of it can be found on his Youtube channel, starting with this WIP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ89mHDWAjM He has also been streaming some of his TASing. Last session a couple of days ago: https://www.twitch.tv/thewayfaringfox/v/96194692

Time is up! Here are the answers: 1. Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow My first TAS on the site and a fun childhood game! Even though I kinda regret for trading A Link to the Past for this game and Super Return of the Jedi when I was young... 2. Gunstar Heroes I wanted to include a Genesis game on the list. This is one of the few games I've played for the system however. Great game, still! 3. Crash Bandicoot 3 - Warped Thanks to my aunt for introducing me to the Crash series! I've spent lots of hours on this game, even though I could never beat it as a kid (This has since then been fixed). 4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl I don't even have anything to say here. Subspace was too repetitive at times... And who is Tabuu anyway? 5. Secret of Mana Great game, great soundtrack, epic! 6. Resident Evil 4 I mostly picked this game because of a friend who loves it. But he wasn't even able to guess the right title :(. RE4 isn't really that recognizable for its music anyway, so it's understandable. 7. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem The sanity system is a quite interesting one. I would have liked to see a sequel to it, though nothing released so far... 8. The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse This was one of the first games I bought, together with my brother David. Has stated as a special place in my "collection" because of it <3. 9. Metroid II: Return of Samus I wanted to include a Metroid title in the list. As I just finished Another Metroid 2 Remake, this became the pick. 10. Spyro the Dragon 2 - Gateway to Glimmer Thanks to my aunt for introducing me to the Spyro series! I've spent lots of hours on this game, even though I could never beat it as a kid (This has since then not been fixed). 11. Bubble Bobble My birth/origin of "Save the Frames" and the beautiful aspect of Frame Whoring. 12. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Likely the #1 game I've played the most ever. Also the first game I ever did a speedrun of, back in 2003 or so. Great memories with this one. 13. Mega Man X4 My first true introduction to Mega Man games. I found the NES games to be too hard for me, but I do believe I finished this? Maybe? 14. Donkey Kong 64 After playing both Banjo Kazooie and Tooie before this, DK64 was a bit of a disappointment. Camera sucked and the jetpak was garbage. Still, it was fun. 15. Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Probably the Pokémon game I spent the most time on and one of the best Champion theme's. 16. Rockin' Kats Only reason I know about this game is Dream Team Contest 4. So I clearly had to pick it. 17. DuckTales II The first DuckTales doesn't have a dedicated "Final Boss" song, so instead I picked the second game. I've always liked it more than the first anyway. 18. Super Mario RPG I didn't really like RPG's until I played this game. <3 Emulators so that people in Europe could play US games. 19. Final Fantasy IV *I also gave points for FFII*. Even though I played through the DS version, I picked the SNES version as I think it would be the most recognized and make the most sense. 20. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow RIP Konami :'( 21. Pikmin Very odd tune for this game, main reason why it made the list! 22. Rayman 2 - The Great Escape My brother bought a Dreamcast with Rayman 2 (And a couple of other titles). I never really knew about the first Rayman game, but as I like platformers a lot, this was a must to play through. No regrets. 23. Super Bomberman 5 One of the few 5 player games for the Super Nintendo. Even though it was only released in Japan... Great fun with friends! 24. Dynamite Cop Another one of those Dreamcast games from my brother. We always laughed at the intro cutscene. I HAVE CHANGED MY BODY TO DESTROY YOU!! RESULTS: PplToast: 9 HHS: 8 Mothrayas: 7 Juef: 6 Invariel: 7 Grincevent: 4 Vince1919: 2 Thanks for joining in! If you want more of these, I could gladly upload them frequently!

You should start from power on, on a completely fresh ROM without anything saved on it.

So I was comparing this a little to the currently fastest (?) real time run: https://www.twitch.tv/iastsa/v/90177268 While the runs are mostly the same, except that the TAS is 2 player, the real time run has a faster strategy for stage 6 boss, which looks like it saves seconds. I have yet not watched more of the run, though I wanted to note that at least for now =).

Saturn, what harm does it do to you if you help the community by releasing a much-requrested file? What good will that file do on your computer for another two years without ever being touched? Is there any logical reasoning to this at all...? Sure, a lot of TASers don't always show the projects they are working on, as it can be nice to show it off as a surprise. Though in this case, there's no such logic existing. Or do you plan to do the same as with Super Metroid where you suddenly release a "Hey, I already found that years ago" video for an unlisted Youtube clip bragging about being better than others? You are just halting the development of the game for an unknown illogical personal reason. This is not how a community works, this is not how you make friends. This is how you make everyone despise you, make fun of you and eventually ignore you. Please.

I started TASing this again recently, improving both my own run and the one posted above. I found this little glitch that could be useful in later board levels: Link to video World 1 WIP coming next week or so, just need to finish it first :).

There's a Swedish forum where we usually have a VGMQ each month just for fun. I decided I could just as well post it here as well in case people are interested in joining in =). There are a total of 24 songs from various games. This time, I've chosen only tunes from Final Bosses. All guesses should be sent as a PM to me, one guess/song, only game name is required and there are no negative points for wrong gusses. You have until 23:59 October 19 (TASVideos time) to send your answer. Good luck! http://www.mediafire.com/file/r5yswrs7mc8zxd9/T%C3%A4vling.rar

So the TAS is once again up to 4-4, Croctopus Chase. Being 2966 frames ahead of the version Alyosha posted. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/33917370351386761 And now the TAS will likely be stuck for a couple of months (again), if I'm not quitting completely (again).

In the description to the current WR run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW1rsW47QSk "- JP has been confirmed to be faster. Not by text, but by certain version differences in the Tower of Spirits." I haven't watched any runs of JP version, so I'm not sure what these actual differences are. In general, I'm very interested in a TAS of this game!

I'm amazed at how fast you pop these out. Isn't it harder to optimise? As it looks like it should be tricky at times. Still, each level has been wonderful so far.

There were a couple of times where you could save time by jumping instead of running down cliffs. Such as at frame 6930, where it saves three frames to jump into the water. Or at 7330, about 4 frames faster and again as soon as you land etc. I'll wait with my verdict :).
