Yay <3! I don't remember seeing that double-jump in previous WIPs? Maybe I was just not paying enough attention, but that was a delight to see such speed with Mario.

https://www.twitch.tv/pmniac/v/81711394 Posted this in IRC, but might as well post it here. Why and how does this work?

I'm curious to why this is slower than the real time record, makes little sense really... I'll have a look later on.

Second world is done: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31989738981844773 Link to video I'm still going to test a few things on the last level. But I just had my own little deadline to upload this today.

I was stuck in Bouncy Bonanza, 2-3, for a long time, being unable to bypass the first bee after the midway barrel, so I put the project on hold for a long time. Until picking it up again and found a method to proceed. Yay. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31763216475747676

Sadly, you can't. While you can indeed walk on holes with this glitch; when you move to a new screen, the first frame has to be on solid ground, otherwise Link will instantly fall down in an endless loope, softlocking the game. And there are no frames before that where you could make an input to use an item or whatever. The only way to walk on holes after the screen transition is if you could put Link into the second layer, which can only be done by using stairs, as seen in the second video.

Maria: Currently, that location has no use at all. The reason is that, while you can reach the later part of the dungeon, you are unable to reach the boss without the boss key. And you are unable to backtrack for the key. So the only use of this would be if it would somehow be faster to do the glitch, activate the red warp, get back to the room where you get the cape, go up the clouds, proceed to the Big Key like normal, S&Q, red warp and rest of dungeon as normal. Map of the dungeon: http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/GBA/LegendOfZelda-MinishCap-PalaceOfWinds.png Pokota: The Ocarina Glitch was used several times in the last run too. But we didn't know it could be activated at the start of certain cutscenes (VERY limited). Right now the only real use for this is the previous video I posted here.

I just found a new method to activate the Ocarina Glitch, which means I need to redo a bit of the TAS, how much is yet unknown as we are still researching this. One of the uses: Link to video

I suggest we change the submission to this file and please add ALAKTORN and MKDasher as authors: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31219011528666255 I copied 21 frames of input from their SM64 DS run. Can be seen frame 41 -> 61. Jokes aside... Let's just ignore this pointless discussion already.

Co-author isn't really limited to the inputs used I would say. The help and contribution from every past person for a TAS is technically an author of the improvement, as everyone helped out for the finished product.

Much better than before, good job! I noticed some things at the beginning of 7-2 (Picking up the first enemy instead of the second), but it's not enough to make the frame rule anyway.

You could have landed earlier to start the crouch charge, also remember to gain distance when you go around corners by first holding the opposite direction and then turn around to get as much speed as possible without hitting the wall. This way, 9 frames could be saved: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/30981142053053250

I'm sorry if my nitpicking makes you drop the motivation a bit. As I could really have done a better job at it the first time you showed a WIP here. Do you want me to go through your previous run in more detail and write down all small improvements for it?

You could have skipped the elevator at frame 85000 as well. Curious why you didn't do it here even though it was done the same way later on? For the next elevator, you could have started jumping up earlier as well. For the one after that, you first climb up on the right side and then jump to the left, would have been faster to wait longer on the elevator and then jump up to the left side.

You can optimise getting the mushoom and leaf. Possibly faster to grab the leaf in 1-3. Unsure how much that will save. 1½ seconds with better HB RNG in W1, to reduce the amount of steps. For 8-Tank 1 it's unsure how much can be saved because of the boomerang bro RNG, to kill it before he throws the boomerang. Otherwise some time could be saved by getting ahead of the camera both here, 8-ship and 8-Tank 2. Possibly faster route in 8-F2 and Bowser's Castle, can also have Bowser lower down for the final hit. Yeah, it is very improveable. But I can't see 13 seconds. Feel free to try.

It has been TASed. Here is one version from many years ago: www.tasvideos.org/891S.html encode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkUzj5dcbQs While it is improveable, not by 10+ seconds. There's also a TAS on the GBA version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKfFUhSOf5k

Much cleaner Birdo fight there, nice nice! However: In the first cave with the ladder, you could have achieved a higher X-subpixel value there as well, I had 224 in my test which let me pick up the Hoopster early. In the end, three frames were saved up to the vine at the end of the section.

You need to walk between two holes, if it's one pick it doesn't work. If you walk upwards and start to fall down into the left hole, then press right until you'll start falling down into the right pit. After that you can hold forwards and alternate between left and right every second frame.
