Just want to clarify that I planned to accept this if you would fix the mistakes in 8-4 with the vine. Because it really bugs me :).

Yeah, I know :/. I would however recommend that you fix the error with the vine in 8-4 to saved another second. Shouldn't take long to do and saves a full second afterall =) (Not counting the frame rule...)

So it seems like dying in 8-4 is required to be able to finish the level. Which explains why the fire wasn't obtained earlier. Though having fire in earlier would save a little bit of time in some of them. If it would be enough to actually save time, I'm not sure, but as the same time I doubt that it was tested. And improvement in 8-4 is to do the vine glitch with left+right at around frame 19000. This way you can reach the pipe earlier by about a second. It's dumb that it is possible to skip the underwater section in 8-5, but it will also skip the only place in the level were you can get the mushroom. Reaching that pipe seems like it can only be done by jumping through the wall, makes me think of what the real purpose of that area is anyway.

Two years ago, I decided to TAS the Palace of the Four Sword the "proper way", compared to the published TAS: http://tasvideos.org/2139M.html Though I didn't pick it back up and finish it until today, so here it is. Link to video

We could certainly have recieved a few more lives, yes. But it wouldn't have been enough for 99 lives anyway. And to be honest, I don't care either =P.

From IRC: [21:15:13] <Tompa> I don't really get why getting 99 lives is THAT important [21:16:05] <Tompa> It would cost a little more than second [21:16:37] <Tompa> By getting the leaf in 8-Tank and then the fire again in the next time. 30+30 frames for each powerup and some time lost against the Boomerang Bro in 8-tank [21:16:57] <Tompa> I just find it to be a pointless and uneccesary waste of time that won't add anything new to the run And no, this should obviously not obsolete warpless.

Yes vote if the last autoscroller redone for 99. Very disappointed. :(
We can only get about 6-7 lives in the last autoscroller anyway, so it wouldn't matter. And as we don't have the leaf in the first two autoscrollers in world 8, getting many lives there is hard, it also has more lag with Fire Mario. The current warpless TAS wasted time in 8-Ship to get more lives, which we could have done both there as well as other places and it MAYBE would have reached 99. Though I think there's so much "jumping on enemies" already, so wasting time to get closer to 99 is not worth it. Then we could just as well got three star cards at the end of the levels. Just no.

Yeah, I apologies for it being a pretty bad time for the stream... We, at least I, didn't want to wait another 1½ week to be able to stream it on a weekened, which might not have worked anyway. I just hope that my computer/connection will be able to stream it properly, at least my tests show that it works. But it might as well end in a disaster. So people might not miss out on anything :). (Hopefully not the case)

Thanks for your notes! The lag when dropping into the water felt very clear and obvious to me when watching though. Anyway, just wanted some insight =).

Was there any real reason to keep dropping into the water during the first boss fight? Apart from doing something different/entertaining during the fight? As it seems to me that over a second of the two seconds amount of lag could "easily" be avoided.

Just want to announce that the 100% TAS is now done! The run will be streamed with commentary with me, Lord Tom and Kirua, who is the current WR holder for the 100% category. Date and time is yet not decided, I'll mention it here as soon as I know, in case people are interested in watching. It will likely be streamed on my channel: http://www.twitch.tv/tompa

Indeed, from the Leia fight in the first platformer level, should be able to save some time there too I believe. I have yet to understand how the RNG works with the item drops...

Good going! I'll to test a couple of things in the Rancor Pit still... Edit: Ok, here is a faster section, by about 15 frames or so: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/21639612538680148 Starting from around frame 18550. My attempt isn't well optimised, as I'm unable to TAS smooth and well enough with Lsnes. Oh, and you can get detonators during the rancor fight too. Possible during the previous boss fight too I guess... I'll check. Indeed, works fine for that boss fight too. Most certainly any such rocks can drop a detonator. Meaning the one in level two as well, lol. Oh well.

It's faster to select Toad than Mario because Toad has closer to the edge of the screen. They are identical in the levels.

So.... this game... First we have this: Link to video Then this crazy and simple glitch: http://www.twitch.tv/drenn_thew/c/6364090 In conclusion: I don't know what to allow and not for a new TAS. I might just end up doing an "All instruments" TAS which allows everything, rather than improving Swordless' 1 hour run.
