I guess I'll just invade this place too with some of my comments. I'm pretty much ignoring most talk in the topic so far and making my own words. First off, when both JP and US versions has the same exact speed, it is pretty obvious that the US version should be used. That's at least something everyone are in favor of. The reason, to my knowledge, why US version is standard when it comes to text is so that one can enjoy the run more, when it is in a language most people understand and that a person that don't know the game can still know what is going on. The story is however uninteresting to me when I'm watching a speedrun. I'm curious to the one who says "Oh a new Ocarina of Time TAS! Time to watch that Light Arrow cutscene because it is so great! What Japanese text? Meh, I can't understand that story, voting no." Speedruns aren't made as a walkthrough, it isn't supposed to follow and explain the story for the viewer, even though it could be a plus if this is included somehow. I watch runs for the entertainment value. Watching a run of a game I haven't played will remove most of the entertainment for it because I don't know the game. Not because I don't know the story or anything like that, but because I'm unfamiliar with the gameplay. I can't see something and think that "Oh, that was a very nice fight!" or "What?! How did he do that, you aren't supposed to do that!" as I don't know if that is the intended way of playing the game or if it was actually something impressive. That's just my take on that subject at least, which I guess isn't mainly part of this discussion, so back to that :). As said, I watch for entertainment. A text conversation isn't entertaining for me in runs. It's basically loading time before it gets back to the action in the run again. Compare it to a door transition in Super Metroid for example. The encodes that have removed these are more entertaining to watch as it includes less boring parts and more interesting parts. The shorter the conversations are the higher % entertainment is included in the run. The purpose of the site is entertainment afterall, that is something stated in the rules as well to my knowledge. I would then say that the rule of always using US rom VS the entertainment rules are in conflict sometimes. As stated before in the topic (Or if it was IRC...) rules are usually more like guidelines, things that are prefered to follow when it is possible and without having valid reasons for it. This, to me, is a valid reason to break such rule, to make the run more entertaining. And I'm off!

You have put a lot of work into making this run. It surely paid off in the end. You know I love every bit of the run (Cutscenes not included) and my yes vote is a guarantee. Great job!

Shortly after the game was released I made a little speedrun (Intended as a walkthrough at first) for people who were stuck. Played through the game, very unoptimised and doesn't even finish, in about 2½ hours. Found here. My intentions after that has been to make an actual TAS. I wanted to wait for the 2.0 release that SePH was working on before. He has stated that he might return to it one day. Possibly after finishing the hack he is currently working on: http://parallelsequel.wordpress.com/ If I made a TAS with the current version of the game (1.1) I would have to climb the Parallel Tower three times. Which will be highly annoying looking in a run I can imagine. As well as the many bugs that may occur while playing the game. So that's why I have yet not started a full run. I made a glitched TAS three years ago however, same boring run as the ALttP glitched: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/191537828/ParallelWorldsGlitchedTAS.smv Also, Franpa, what exactly is your purpose with the playthrough? It doesn't really feel like it has anything to do with either speedrunning or TASing the game.

Yes vote for destroying this game even more and making me have no clue what's going on.

Great stuff, congrats on putting this run further to the limits. Now I just wish that you would TAS something else than just SMB :).

I personally find it unbearable to TAS if it's like that at least. And yeah, I heard it was the same way with Mupen. Which probably means there is some kind of reason why it is like that? Other things I would like, even though they will probably be added in the future, is autohold (I know you can do this with the input plugin currently) and autofire features as well as input display. Those aren't really that needed however, but still. I greatly appreciate the work people put into this, thanks a lot!

Something I find highly annoying when TASing, is when you load a save state you won't automatically appear at that point in the game, but have to press frame advance once in order to do so. Does it have to be like this...?

The WIP has already been posted at the end of page 3. Even though that one has redone the Ice World and will include the glitch in Croctopus Chase, which is the reason I haven't finished the run. I really want to finish the run however and will do so eventually.

I have been working on it off and on the last 4 years. Current progress is the glitch in Croctopus Chase. I'm waiting for Arne to get back his motivation before I'll continue with it. I also have started an improvement to it from scratch, using the 1.51 version.

That was a beautiful run! Greatly enjoyed it. Maridia was clearly my favorite. And as Boct mentioned, that Mocktroids shinespark was really clever and nice. Obvious yes vote.

Why comparing to a whole different site? At TASvideos we make and watch runs because it is entertaining. I don't make a run because I want a record or anything, I personally wouldn't make runs if I enjoyed to do it. I also want people to enjoy what I'm making. Same with watching, I do it to be entertained. If I don't like what I'm watching, there's no point in keep watching the run. No one will notice if a few frames were lost to do something more entertaining. But you'll notice if the entertaining part isn't in the run. Let's say a glitch in the game made the whole game black, you as a viewer wouldn't be able to see anything, but with the TAS tools you are still able to TAS the game. This glitch saves 5 frames in a 1 hour run. Would you have prefered the faster run or the run where you can see the game? It isn't like people waste several minutes in order to do something more entertaining. It's usually just about a few frames, a few frames no one will notice.

Topic revival! I felt like starting a run of this game for fun. I'm doing an any% run however and just finished the first three levels. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1529076788/KlonoaTASany%25.vbm People enjoyed Lag's 100% WIP at least, but will people like an any% run as well? Or should I switch to 100% instead? You'll need the VBA-M emulator to play. Found here

Of course it can be done. That run is just one part and is worse than what a console run would look like. So nothing important, nothing new and nothing interesting was shown in that WIP.

And it's very bad in general as well. No rolling, missing slashes... Nothing worth watching.

Hmm, ok. That option works different with other emulators. As I'm recording the movie, it doesn't end until I stop the recording. So it shouldn't be pausing anyway. But it works as it does now, I think it should be unchecked on default. Thanks at least!

I just downloaded r422 and started making a movie. But when you are recording and load a save state, the game will pause so you have to constantly unpause it. This seems to be the same case with all games.

Should note that it is a very old vide. All levels except two (1 and 47) have been improved. The total time for all levels is currently 35:05.44 (As of Dec 4 2011). An optimised TAS would be very awesome to see. I won't be the one to make one at least, but I'll gladly watch =).

Hi Vespa! Long time =). The Ages run will be restarted once we are done with Seasons. And that run has had some active progress lately. We just got the Magic Boomernag and I'm currently fighting the statues in that room. Main holdup for the run is the manipulation, as it is a painful process. But we are struggling the best we can!
